Padres placed LHP Cory Luebke on the 60-day disabled list with a left elbow injury.

Luebke is working his way back from Tommy John surgery and won't be available until around the All-Star break. He was recently shut down from his throwing program, but the Padres deemed it a minor setback.

Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal confirms Mark Melancon has received multiple four-year offers for at least $60 million.

Rosenthal said those offers came from the Giants, Nationals and "perhaps one other" club. The Giants' offer is reportedly the strongest. Things seem to be moving quickly on Melancon and it wouldn't be a surprise if he signed during the Winter Meetings, which start tomorrow in Maryland.

ESPN's Jim Bowden reports a deal between the Dodgers and free agent Rich Hill "will get done."

Bowden said an official announcement is expected on Sunday. According to Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register, Hill's new deal is expected to be in the neighborhood of three years and $48 million. That's a big raise for Hill, who inked a one-year, $6 million pact with Oakland last offseason. The 36-year-old had his best season in 2016, contributing a stellar 2.12 ERA over 110 1/3 innings.

According to Andy McCullough of the Los Angeles Times, the Dodgers are "getting closer" to re-signing free agent Rich Hill.

A source told Peter Gammons earlier today that Hill and the Dodgers were in agreement on a three-year deal worth over $40 million. That could very well be the case, but it doesn't look like a deal will be finalized before Sunday. Hill was limited to only seven starts in the second half because of blister issues but was excellent when healthy last season (2.12 ERA over 20 outings for the Dodgers and A's).

According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, the Tigers are unlikely to trade Miguel Cabrera.

Per Heyman, "there's never been anything close." Moving Cabrera was never a likely outcome considering how much money Cabrera is owed over the next seven seasons ($212 million). While it looks like Cabrera is staying put, the Tigers are reportedly still open to trading Justin Verlander and perhaps even Victor Martinez. Cabrera is coming off another brilliant season (.318, 38 HR, 108 RBI) and should be in Detroit for the long haul.

Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports the Rockies are "showing continued interest" in free agent Mark Trumbo.

His market has been slow to develop but could pick up once Edwin Encarnacion finds a new home. Trumbo is tied to draft-pick compensation and is a poor defensive player, which might also limit his options. Per Eduardo Encina of the Baltimore Sun, Trumbo is projected to land a four-year deal in the range of $57 million. That would be identical to the deal Nelson Cruz signed with Seattle two years ago. Trumbo's power would play well at Coors Field. He's clubbed eight homers in 12 career games at Colorado.

MLB Network's Jon Morosi reports the Yankees are "well-positioned to make a play" for free agent Edwin Encarnacion.

The Yankees are looking for a veteran power bat and just lost out on Carlos Beltran, who signed a one-year deal with Houston earlier today. The Astros had been a contender for Encarnacion, but likely took themselves out of the running by signing Beltran. With Boston also bowing out of the race, the Yankees and Blue Jays figure to be his top suitors. Talks for Encarnacion should intensify at the Winter Meetings, which begin Sunday in Maryland.
Dec 3 - 6:38 PM

According to TR Sullivan of MLB.com, the Rangers are "far from optimistic" a deal will get done with free agent Ian Desmond.

This comes on the heels of a report from MLB Network's Jon Morosi, who said the Rangers' talks with Desmond had "intensified" in recent days. The Rangers are obviously keen on re-signing him, but Desmond won't come cheap after a productive year that included 22 HR, 86 RBI and 21 steals. Desmond turned down the Rangers' one-year qualifying offer, which means Texas will get a compensatory pick if he signs elsewhere.

Buster Olney of ESPN reports that the Astros have agreed to a one-year, $16 million contract with Carlos Beltran.

The Astros have won out over the Yankees, Red Sox and Blue Jays who were also active in the bidding for the veteran slugger. Beltran returns to the Astros where he had a magical half-season in 2004, slashing .258/.368/.559 with 23 homers, 53 RBI and 28 stolen bases following a mid-season trade from the Royals. He's expected to function primarily as the designated hitter for the Astros, but could see time in the corner outfield as well.
Dec 3 - 1:41 PM

Jerry Crasnick of ESPN reports that the Mariners have agreed to a two-year, $11 million contract with Mark Rzepczynski.

The 31-year-old southpaw will get $5.5 million each season. Rzepczynski compiled a 2.64 ERA, 1.57 WHIP and 46/29 K/BB ratio over 47 2/3 innings between the Athletics and Nationals in 2016. He'll work as a left-handed specialist in the late innings, helping to get the ball to Mariners' closer Edwin Diaz.
Dec 3 - 9:19 AM

According to Jim Bowden of ESPN, the Pirates and Nationals are still working on a potential trade involving Andrew McCutchen.

The two sides are reportedly "working on a lot of different angles" and appear intent on getting a deal done. The superstar would be a tremendous fit in center field for the Nationals while allowing Trea Turner to shift back to shortstop. When there's this much smoke, there's usually fire, so look for the two sides to continue working until a deal gets consummated.
Dec 2 - 10:58 PM

Padres non-tendered RHP Tyson Ross.

The 29-year-old right-hander made just one start before he was shut down for the season with a shoulder issue. He eventually required surgery in October for thoracic outlet syndrome which puts his status in question for the start of the 2017 season. Still, it's a bit of a surprising move after Ross pitched to a 3.16 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 9.2 K/9 over 522 innings since joining the club in 2013. He'll be an interesting commodity on the free agent market.
