Royals purchased the contract of INF Miguel Tejada from Triple-A Omaha.

Tejada didn't appear in the majors last season but is getting another shot with the Royals. He should see some starts at second base against lefties.

Michael Cuddyer left Tuesday's game versus the Cubs with a sore left knee.

Cuddyer didn't suffer an obvious injury, so it's unclear how he was hurt. The Mets should have more on the veteran outfielder's status later Tuesday.

Rockies placed RHP John Axford on the temporary inactive list.

Manager Walt Weiss said that the reliever "just has things to take care of at home." He did note that Axford's son, Jameson, who was bitten by a rattlesnake during spring training, is fine. It's not clear how long Axford will be away. LaTroy Hawkins, Rafael Betancourt and Tommy Kahnle could be in the mix for saves in Axford's absence.

Hunter Pence (wrist) took swings off a tee with a fungo bat on Tuesday.

He also played catch as he resumed baseball activities for the first time in nearly two weeks. There remains no timetable for Pence's return, as the Giants will have to see how his ailing left wrist responds to increased activity.
Jun 30 - 8:05 PM

James Paxton (finger) played catch from 60 feet on Tuesday.

It's a nice step, but Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon cautioned that it's "going to be a slow process" for Paxton. "Pax is going to be out for a while," the skipper added. It's not a surprise, as Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune speculated last week that the lefty returning prior to August would be "optimistic."
Jun 30 - 7:24 PM

Ryan Zimmerman (foot) went through a full workout on Tuesday, hitting, fielding grounders and doing some running.

He'll go through a similar workout on Wednesday before being re-evaluated. It's possible at that point Zimmerman will be cleared to begin a rehab assignment, as it would appear he could be activated by next week. "He hasn’t hit a groundball to short and had to run full-speed to first yet, so that’s the telling sign," Nationals manager Matt Williams said. "There’s no way to simulate that unless you get in a game situation and it happens naturally and he reacts. Going five steps to his left to dive for a ball or having to turn first to third, you can’t do it, you can’t simulate that, it’s never the same as being in competition."
Jun 30 - 7:02 PM

Jacoby Ellsbury (knee) did not play in Tuesday's rehab game with High-A Tampa as scheduled due to "general fatigue," according to Yankees manager Joe Girardi.

It's obviously not ideal, but at least it's not a significant setbacks. Ellsbury, who hopes to play Wednesday, had been slated for activation from the disabled list as soon as Friday. That could be pushed back a bit now.
Jun 30 - 6:49 PM

Freddie Freeman (wrist) might be held out until after the All-Star break.

The Braves had been optimistic about getting him back before the break, but that's looking unlikely now. Freeman hasn't had a setback with his right wrist, but it makes sense to give him a little extra time. "We were hoping we could get him shortly after the 15 days, but I think it’s going to be a little longer than that," manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "Not quite sure how much longer. We had our fingers crossed and were optimistic to get him (then or soon after), but I think it’s going to be little longer."
Jun 30 - 6:12 PM

Matt Cain (forearm) will return to the Giants' starting rotation on Thursday against the Marlins.

Cain had been lined up to make his 2015 regular-season debut on Friday, but the Giants need him to step up and take Tim Lincecum's spot. Lincecum is headed to the disabled list with a forearm bruise. Cain has been decent on his lengthy minor league rehab assignment and is worth a shot in most mixed fantasy leagues.
Jun 30 - 5:48 PM

Jake Marisnick (hamstring) is scheduled to begin a rehab assignment Wednesday with Triple-A Fresno.

Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle suspects that Marisnick will be cleared to rejoin the Astros' active roster next Monday in Cleveland. The 24-year-old outfielder has been on the shelf since June 19 with a strained hamstring. He boasts five homers and 11 stolen bases in 62 games this season.
Jun 30 - 5:31 PM

Matt Carpenter is out of Tuesday's lineup against the White Sox.

Chris Sale is on the hill for the White Sox, so it's not a bad time to give Carpenter a bit of a breather. Mark Reynolds will start at third base while Xavier Scruggs plays first.
Jun 30 - 4:04 PM

Kolten Wong is not in Tuesday's lineup against the White Sox.

The Cardinals had a scheduled off-day on Monday, so manager Mike Matheny is likely just using this as an opportunity to give him some extra rest. Pete Kozma will start at second base while Peter Bourjos will bat leadoff. Chris Sale is on the mound for Chicago.
