Chase Headley (thumb) took soft ground balls Monday.

The injured third baseman has also been lifting weights and taking one-handed swings in a batting cage. He has a checkup with doctors next Monday and is hoping to be cleared for higher-intensity workouts. "There are a lot of things I can do," Headley said Monday morning. "When I'm cleared for baseball activity, I want to hit the ground running." He's expected be ready in early May.

Maikel Franco (wrist) is back in the Phillies' lineup Monday against the Marlins.

Franco hasn't started since Friday due to a bruised wrist, but he entered the game Sunday after Andres Blanco fractured his left index finger. He's batting third against Jarred Cosart on Monday.

Josh Reddick (back) has returned to the Athletics' starting lineup Monday against the Rangers.

Reddick missed consecutive starts over the weekend due to back soreness, but he was able to play some defense on Sunday. It's not a major concern.

Diamondbacks purchased the contract of RHP Braden Shipley from Triple-A Reno.

Shipley will make his major league debut Monday against the Brewers. The 25-year-old posted a 3.70 ERA and 77/22 K/BB ratio in 119 1/3 innings over 19 starts this season in Triple-A. It's unclear if he'll keep a rotation spot once Zack Greinke (oblique) is ready to return.

RotoGrinders.com Daily Slant: Shipley was the 15th overall pick back in the 2013 draft, but hasn't been great at the AAA level with just a 15.5 K% in 119.1 IP on the season. While the Brewers do strike out a ton against RHP (26.3 K%), they are in a nice spot tonight with one of the highest team totals on the slate. All of the bats in the top six of the order are squarely in play, and stacking up any combination of them is a fine GPP move.

Mookie Betts (knee) has returned to the Red Sox lineup Monday versus the Tigers.

Betts sat out Saturday and Sunday after leaving Friday's game with minor soreness in his right knee. He is starting in right field and batting leadoff Monday night against Detroit right-hander Justin Verlander.
Jul 25 - 3:37 PM

Russell Martin (knee) is back in the Blue Jays' lineup Monday versus the Padres.

He will start at catcher and bat sixth after missing the Blue Jays' entire weekend series against the Mariners because of a minor knee injury. Martin is slashing .228/.317/.338 with seven home runs and 36 RBI in 81 games this season for Toronto.

Blue Jays activated OF Jose Bautista from the 15-day disabled list.

Bautista wound up missing five weeks because of turf toe. He's starting in right field and batting leadoff in his return Monday against the Padres. Bautista homered in his first rehab at-bat last week at High-A Dunedin and is safe for immediate activation in fantasy leagues. The veteran slugger returns to an .815 OPS, 12 homers, 41 RBI, and 41 runs scored.

Yankees recalled RHP Luis Severino from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Severino is expected to be available out of the Yankees' bullpen on Monday night in Houston. This could be a quick stopgap while the club awaits the arrival of Adam Warren, who was reacquired from the Cubs in the Aroldis Chapman trade on Monday afternoon. Severino, 22, has posted a decent 3.25 ERA, 1.08 WHIP, and 57/15 K/BB ratio in 63 2/3 innings (10 starts) since his demotion to the Triple-A level back in May. He had a 7.46 ERA in seven starts with New York.

Craig Kimbrel (knee) threw around 20 pitches off the mound at Fenway Park on Monday.

The workout was observed by Red Sox manager John Farrell, two coaches, two trainers, and two physical therapists. It ended with a round of fist-bumps, which is usually a positive sign. Kimbrel will throw off a mound again Wednesday and could then be cleared to face live hitters. He is on track to return to the Boston bullpen early next week in Seattle. Brad Ziegler is currently filling in at closer.

According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the "Yankees' sense right now" is that Andrew Miller will not be traded ahead of the August 1 deadline.

But that could change over the next couple of days, depending on the offers that come in. New York got a terrific haul for impending free agent Aroldis Chapman on Monday, landing shortstop prospect Gleyber Torres, outfield prospect Billy McKinney, right-hander Adam Warren, and minor league outfielder Rashad Crawford from the Cubs. Miller, under contract through 2018, owns a dominant 1.45 ERA, 0.76 WHIP, and 74/7 K/BB ratio in 43 1/3 innings this season for the fourth-place Yankees.
Jul 25 - 2:49 PM

Cubs acquired LHP Aroldis Chapman from the Yankees in exchange for SS Gleyber Torres, RHP Adam Warren, OF Billy McKinney, and OF Rashad Crawford.

There had been reports of the Cubs attempting to work out a contract extension with Chapman, but the impending free agent left-hander is apparently intent on hitting the open market this winter. New York also tried an extension with Chapman back in June, but those talks obviously failed. The fire-balling 28-year-old will take over at closer on the north side of Chicago, with Hector Rondon shifting into a setup role. Chapman owns a dominant 2.01 ERA, 0.89 WHIP, and 44/8 K/BB ratio in 31 1/3 innings since returning in May from a domestic violence suspension.

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick reports the Angels are listening on starting pitcher Hector Santiago.

And several clubs have already inquired, per Crasnick's sources. Santiago is sporting a career-worst 4.32 ERA in 110 1/3 innings this season, but the 28-year-old left-hander managed a sharp 3.55 ERA in 532 2/3 innings between 2011 and 2015. He is eligible for arbitration for the third and final time in 2017.
