White Sox acquired 1B/OF Lars Anderson from the Blue Jays for cash considerations.

Anderson was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays last week. The 25-year-old will report to Triple-A Charlotte and could be an option for the major league bench at some point this summer.

Marlon Byrd went 4-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's loss to the Rangers.

The Indians had a couple longballs in this one, but unfortunately for them they were pretty meaningless. After the Rangers jumped out to a 9-0 lead after the top of the fourth, Mike Napoli smashed a long solo shot in the sixth and Byrd added a blast to left in the seventh. Byrd will turn 39 in August but has remained pretty productive, hitting .270/.328/.459 with five homers and 19 RBI.

Collin McHugh went the distance against the Diamondbacks on Monday allowing three runs while striking out eight in an 8-3 victory.

It wasn't the prettiest outing as far as complete games go, as McHugh served up a couple home runs among the three runs he yielded. However, he also walked just one to go along with his eight punchouts and at Chase Field it was certainly an impressive effort. It's baby steps, but McHugh boasts a 26/3 K/BB ratio over his last 21 1/3 innings. He faces the A's at home this weekend.
May 30 - 8:28 PM

Adam Duvall had his first career two-homer day in Monday's win over the Rockies.

There were seven home runs hit on the day, which is no surprise in a matchup of two mediocre starters at Coors Field. Both of Duvall's longballs went to the opposite field, as he took Chad Bettis deep with a two-run shot in the fourth and then added a solo blast off of Jake McGee in the ninth. Duvall has now homered 11 times this month and 13 times on the season, emerging as a legitimate power bat for the Reds.
May 30 - 8:00 PM

Joey Votto smashed career home run No. 200 in Monday's slugfest victory over the Rockies.

Votto took Jason Motte deep in the seventh inning with a shot to right field. He also nearly had a grand slam in previous at-bat, as a drive in the fourth inning landed on the warning track and then bounced over the fence for a two-RBI, ground-rule double. Votto's production has been way down this season, as he's sporting a .213/.332/.391 batting line. However, he's hit safely in five out of his last six contests and has a couple dingers over that stretch.
May 30 - 7:57 PM

Carlos Gonzalez doubled and smacked a two-run homer in Monday's loss to the Reds.

Both hits were to center field and they were both lasers, with the longball coming in the ninth inning off of Reds closer Tony Cingrani. Gonzalez also walked twice on the day. He has been inconsistent this season, sandwiching a couple homer binges around the longest homerless drought of his career. The good news is CarGo is in the midst of one of the good streaks, as he's gone deep in three straight and four out of his last five.
May 30 - 7:48 PM

Nate Karns struck out six while allowing two runs over 6 2/3 innings in Monday's 9-3 win over the Padres.

Karns has pitched well overall this season but has had trouble going deep into games, as he's failed to go six frames in half of his starts. That wasn't the case here, though, as he also encouragingly only walked one batter. The 28-year-old sports finishes his first two months with a 3.43 ERA, a strikeout per inning and a 5-1 record. He'll try to keep it going this weekend in Texas.
May 30 - 7:43 PM

Twins placed INF/OF Danny Santana on the 15-day disabled list with a left hamstring strain.

Santana injured his left hamstring during Monday's game and will require an extended absence. The Twins will call up Byron Buxton to take his place on the active roster.
May 30 - 7:03 PM

Angels activated RHP Huston Street from the 15-day disabled list.

Street has been sidelined since April 23 with an oblique strain. Joe Smith filled in at closer during his absence, but he'll move back into a set-up role.
May 30 - 5:32 PM

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Monday that Dustin Ackley (shoulder) could require surgery.

Ackley, who was placed on the disabled list Monday, was diagnosed with a torn labrum in his right shoulder. Either way, he's facing a lengthy absence. There should be more clarity on his status in the coming days.
May 30 - 5:26 PM

Carlos Martinez struck out eight batters over eight scoreless innings Monday in the Cardinals' 6-0 victory over the Brewers.

Martinez was 0-5 with a 6.84 ERA in May entering the Memorial Day outing at Miller Park in Milwaukee, but he finished the month with an exclamation point. The hard-throwing righty yielded just five hits -- all singles -- and only issued one walk. He now stands 5-5 with a 3.69 ERA, 1.15 WHIP, and 50 strikeouts in 61 innings (10 starts) this season. Martinez gets the Giants at home next.
May 30 - 5:03 PM

Yunel Escobar (wrist) is not in Monday's lineup against the Tigers.

Escobar bruised his right wrist on Sunday and will get a day of rest. Gregorio Petit will start at third base Monday while Kole Calhoun will bat leadoff.
