David Freese (back) will begin a minor league rehab assignment Thursday with Triple-A Memphis.

Freese was originally expected to play in extended spring training games on Friday and Saturday, but there has been a change in plans. It's probably a better test for him, anyway. He's still hoping to be ready for the Cardinals' home opener on Monday, but it's not a sure thing yet.

Adam Eaton was forced to leave Friday's game against the Mets in the night inning due to an apparent leg injury.

Eaton hustled to beat out an infield single in the ninth inning but immediately collapsed after reaching the first base bag and had to be carried off of the field. He appeared to roll his left ankle on the base as he ran through. He'll undergo an MRI on Saturday to determine the full extent of the injury. Michael Taylor could see increased action in the outfield if Eaton is forced to miss any significant time with this injury. Look for an update on his status from the Nationals on Saturday.
Apr 28 - 11:24 PM

Jacob deGrom yielded three runs over seven innings and struck out 12 in a 7-5 victory over the Nationals on Friday.

All three runs scored in the second inning, including a solo homer from Ryan Zimmerman and a two-run shot off the bat of Matt Wieters. He bounced back in dominant fashion from there and the Mets battled back to put him in position for his first win of the season. DeGrom has now reached double-digit strikeouts for the third straight start. He’s the first Mets pitcher to do that since David Cone in 1992. DeGrom will carry a 2.84 ERA into a start against the Braves next week on the road.
Apr 28 - 10:53 PM

Ryan Zimmerman’s resurgence continued on Friday, as he socked two homers and drove in three runs against the Mets.

Zimmerman connected for a solo homer off Jacob deGrom in the second inning before adding a two-run blast off Addison Reed in the eighth. He’s now second in the majors with 10 homers and owns a monster .392/.442/.861 batting line. It has been a remarkable turnaround for the 32-year-old, who wasn’t drafted in most fantasy leagues this spring.
Apr 28 - 10:51 PM

Logan Morrison blasted a go-ahead two-run homer in the eighth inning on Friday, powering the Rays to a 7-4 victory over the Blue Jays.

The Rays entered the eighth inning trailing 3-1 before their bats awoke. Corey Dickerson and Evan Longoria each swatted solo homers to tie the game before Morrison crushed a Dominic Leone offering over the center field wall for the go-ahead blast. He finished the night 1-for-4 and is now hitting .243/.341/.473 with five long balls and 14 RBI on the season.
Apr 28 - 10:27 PM

The Giants confirmed Friday that Madison Bumgarner is dealing with a Grad 2 shoulder sprain.

Tentatively, the Giants expect their star southpaw to return around the All-Star break. While the diagnosis hasn't changed, at least there now appears to be a clear timetable for his return to the Giants' rotation and fantasy owners can expect to have him back for the second half of the season, barring any setbacks.
Apr 28 - 8:46 PM

Junior Guerra (calf) has resumed throwing bullpen sessions.

He's slated to throw a couple live batting practice sessions beginning early next week and then be cleared to begin a rehab assignment if all goes well. Guerra is working his way back from a strained right calf that he suffered in his first start of the season. He hopes to rejoin the Brewers' rotation before the end of May.
Apr 28 - 5:55 PM

Eric Thames (hamstring) is back in the Brewers' lineup Friday.

Thames departed Wednesday's game with some left hamstring tightness, but it was a precautionary exit and he's ready to go. He's at first base and batting second against Bartolo Colon and the Braves.
Apr 28 - 5:20 PM

Miguel Cabrera (groin) ran and took batting practice Friday.

Barring a setback, Cabrera should be good to go on Tuesday when he's first eligible. It's just the second time in his career that the slugger has been on the disabled list.
Apr 28 - 4:47 PM

George Springer (hamstring) is back in the Astros' lineup Friday.

Jose Altuve (head, shoulder) is back in there, as well, as the Astros are at full strength versus Jharel Cotton and the A's. Evan Gattis is catching over Brian McCann in this one.
Apr 28 - 4:40 PM

Noah Syndergaard (biceps) is expected to start Sunday versus the Nationals after getting through a throwing session Friday with no issues.

"My arm feels great," Syndergaard said Friday. "I should have thrown yesterday." Syndergaard's fantasy owners were worried after he had to be scratched from Thursday's start due to biceps tendinitis, and especially after he admitted that it was hard for him to lift his arm above his shoulder. However, he's apparently made a quick recovery. The Mets won't officially clear him for Sunday until they see how he feels Saturday. Sean Gilmartin is on standby just in case.
Apr 28 - 4:34 PM

Jose Abreu (hip/groin) is not in the White Sox' lineup Friday.

Abreu had said he planned to play Friday after leaving Wednesday's game with a right hip flexor/groin issue, but the White Sox have decided to give him another day. Matt Davidson is at first base, Tyler Saladino is in the leadoff spot and Yolmer Sanchez is at second base.
