Jeff Samardzija struck out a career-high 13 batters over 5 2/3 innings Sunday in a loss to the Braves.

Samardzija wound up allowing four earned runs, but he showed in Sunday's start why many experts believe he can become a legitimate ace. The 28-year-old right-hander should be an excellent source of fantasy production all season. He will take on the Giants next time out.

Jesse Winker hit a pinch-hit three-run homer to help the Reds to an 8-6 victory over the Cubs on Sunday.

The homer came off a completely ineffective Pedro Strop, and it's the fifth homer on the 2018 season for Winker. The left-handed hitting outfielder has seen his share of ups-and-downs, but that's to be expected from a player in his first full MLB season. His .263 average and .381 slugging percentage leave a lot to be desired, but the .378 on-base percentage speak to his offensive potential. Don't be surprised if Winker is much better in the second-half of the year.

Travis Shaw departing Sunday's game against the Cardinals after appearing to aggravate his right wrist injury.

Shaw grimaced after fouling a ball off in the third inning and eventually walked into the clubhouse after a conversation with Brewers manager Craig Counsell and the trainer. He's dealt with a sore wrist for about a week and might be in need of a disabled list stint at this point. The club should have more on his status after the game.
Jun 24 - 3:23 PM

X-rays on Brandon Nimmo's right hand came back negative.

Nimmo had to exit Sunday's game after being plunked by three pitches (although only two of them officially counted), but he managed to escape with merely a bruised right pinkie. Consider him day-to-day.

Garrett Richards (hamstring) will throw a bullpen session Monday.

If that goes well, he'll throw off a mound again Wednesday and then hopefully make a rehab start next weekend. If Richards can progress without any setbacks, he should be in line to rejoin the Angels' rotation sometime next week.
Jun 24 - 1:57 PM

Tyler Skaggs (hamstring) has officially been cleared to start Monday against the Royals.

Skaggs had to be scratched from his last outing with a tight right hamstring, but he threw a bullpen session Saturday without issue and is now ready to go. There's a bit of risk of re-injury with a hamstring, but a favorable matchup against the Royals makes Skaggs a must-start.
Jun 24 - 1:33 PM

Tommy Pham is absent from the Cardinals' lineup Sunday due to the flu.

Pham has evidently been under the weather for a few days, which could at least partly explain four straight hitless contests that included a golden sombrero Saturday. Harrison Bader will cover center field.
Jun 24 - 12:04 PM

Lorenzo Cain (groin) is not in the Brewers' lineup SUnday.

Cain has been banged up lately, exiting Thursday's game with a hamstring injury and Saturday's game with groin tightness. He's considered day-to-day for now. Christian Yelich will play center field and Hernan Perez is getting a start in right.
Jun 24 - 12:00 PM

Chris Taylor (hamstring) remained out of the Dodgers' lineup Sunday.

He's now missed three straight starts with a tight left hamstring. Taylor did come off the bench to deliver a two-run double Saturday, so odds are he won't miss many (if any) more starts. Enrique Hernandez is at shortstop for the third day in a row.
Jun 24 - 11:33 AM

Joey Gallo (hamstring) is in the Rangers' lineup Sunday.

Gallo departed Saturday's game with a tight left hamstring, but it's evidently an issue he's been managing all season and it won't cost him a start. He's in the designated hitter spot and batting sixth against Jose Berrios and the Twins.
Jun 24 - 11:21 AM

Ryan Braun (finger) is back in the brewers' lineup Sunday.

Braun didn't start the previous five games after undergoing cryotherapy on his right thumb, although he did come off the bench Saturday. He's in left field and batting third versus Luke Weaver and the Cardinals.
Jun 24 - 11:16 AM

Noah Syndergaard (finger) threw a 15-pitch bullpen session Sunday.

Everything went well. Syndergaard will throw another bullpen session Tuesday before then throwing a live batting practice session Friday. "Thor" has missed a month of action with a finger injury and presumably will require multiple rehab starts before rejoining the Mets' rotation.
