Adam Eaton (elbow) won't test his elbow out by throwing for another two weeks.

Eaton began hitting last Thursday, but he's not ready to throw the ball just yet. He isn't expected to be ready to rejoin the Diamondbacks' lineup until mid-to-late May.

Dodgers acquired C Carlos Ruiz and cash from the Phillies in exchange for C A.J. Ellis, RHP Tommy Bergjans and a player to be named later.

Ruiz had been with the Phillies since 2006. He hit .266 with 68 HR and 401 RBI during that span while making it to the World Series in 2008 and 2009. The 37-year-old will slide in as Yasmani Grandal's backup with Ellis filling a similar role in Philadelphia behind Cameron Rupp. With Ruiz gone, Ryan Howard is the lone holdover from Philadelphia's World Series team in '08. He might be gone soon as well.

Nelson Cruz (back) is back in the Mariners' lineup Thursday against the White Sox.

Cruz was lifted late in Wednesday night's game because of back spasms but it looks like the Mariners were just being cautious with their star slugger. He'll DH out of the cleanup spot against White Sox right-hander Anthony Ranaudo. Cruz is having another brilliant year for the M's with 33 homers, 78 RBI and a robust .539 slugging percentage over 460 at-bats.

Kyle Seager (foot) is not in the Mariners' lineup Thursday against the White Sox.

Seager is still out with a bruised foot he suffered Tuesday against the Yankees. Manager Scott Servais is hoping to have Seager back in the lineup on Friday but admitted it's 50-50. Utility man Shawn O'Malley will handle the hot corner in his absence on Thursday.

Twins optioned RHP Jose Berrios to Triple-A Rochester.

The move comes after Berrios gave up six runs -- five earned -- and walked five in five innings Thursday in a loss to the Tigers. With the move, the Twins are conceding that they have no real idea on how to turn the talented right-hander into a useful major league pitcher; he's basically on his own right now. He certainly has nothing left to prove in Triple-A. Still, he's been truly dreadful in the majors this year, amassing a 9.24 ERA in his nine starts. He had given up 21 earned runs in 22 innings since being recalled on Aug. 1.

The Mets are considering pushing back Jacob deGrom's next start.

Manager Terry Collins said the right-hander looks "run down." DeGrom seems to have hit a wall over his last two starts, going 0-2 during that stretch with a miserable 12.10 ERA. If Steven Matz (shoulder) returns from the disabled list on Tuesday as expected, the Mets can probably push deGrom back a day. Including the playoffs, deGrom has logged 359 innings since the start of 2015.

Blue Jays activated OF Jose Bautista from the 15-day disabled list.

Bautista missed exactly 15 days with a left knee sprain. He is starting at DH and batting leadoff for the Jays on Thursday night against Angels righty Jered Weaver.

RotoGrinders.com Daily Slant: There isn't much sense in waiting to deploy Bautista from a DFS perspective. Jered Weaver has been awful on the road - he's allowed a .385 wOBA on the road in addition to a poor 1.97 HR/9 rate - and will have to deal with a potent offense in a hitter friendly park. Joey Bats owns a .349 wOBA, .224 ISO and 38.3 hard% against RHP this season, so he's a fine play out of the lead-off spot. Donaldson, Encarnacion, Martin and Tulowitzki are also elite targets in this match-up.

Devon Travis (finger) remains out of the Blue Jays' lineup Thursday against the Angels.

Travis hasn't played since Sunday due to an issue with the third knuckle on his right hand. Darwin Barney will start at second base and bat ninth Thursday versus Anaheim right-hander Jered Weaver.

Wilson Ramos is out of the Nationals' starting lineup Thursday night against the Orioles.

Jose Lobaton will catch Max Scherzer in the series finale at Nationals Park. Ramos has been one of the most active backstops in MLB this year and is in a bit of an offensive rut. He deserves the breather.

Byung Ho Park underwent successful surgery Thursday on his right middle finger.

A tendon in that finger had been causing Park wrist discomfort for weeks and perhaps even months. It might help explain why his offensive production dropped off so significantly beginning in late May, which eventually led to him being demoted to Triple-A Rochester on July 1. Park, signed to a four-year, $12 million contract this winter, is expected to be ready for the start of spring training next February.

Mariners activated LHP James Paxton from the 15-day disabled list.

Paxton will return to the Mariners' starting rotation on Thursday night against the White Sox after missing the last 17 days with a bruised left elbow. He has a cool 3.53 ERA and 73/18 K/BB ratio in 81 2/3 innings this season with Seattle and should be safe for immediate activation in fantasy leagues.

Twins manager Paul Molitor confirmed Thursday that Joe Mauer is again having quad issues.

It's the reason Mauer was out of the lineup Wednesday and will sit again Thursday. He injured the quad last week while running the bases in Atlanta and could need a couple more games off, though Molitor said he's not ruling Mauer out for Friday night's series opener on the road against the Blue Jays. Trevor Plouffe is playing first base on Thursday versus the Tigers with Eduardo Escobar at third.
