Bryce Harper went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in the Nationals' 5-2 win over the White Sox on Wednesday.

It was Harper's fourth home run of the season, and he's now hitting a robust .394 overall. The power has been present, but Harper has yet to register a stolen base this season after swiping 18 last year. Still, the 20-year-old is showing why he was such a sexy pick in the early rounds of drafts this spring.

Rich Hill (finger) felt good after throwing a 60-pitch bullpen session on Saturday.

Hill had his blister covered for the first 45 pitches but took it off for the last 15. Assuming he isn't traded, Hill should return to the A's rotation either Thursday against the Angels or Friday versus the Cubs. He left his last start on July 17 after throwing just five pitches.

David Ortiz is not in the Red Sox lineup Saturday against the Angels.

Manager John Farrell suggested this might be a possibility so it's not a complete shock to see Ortiz getting the day off against left-hander Hector Santiago. With Ortiz sitting, Hanley Ramirez will DH with Travis Shaw covering first. Big Papi should be ready to go on Sunday.

Two rival GMs told Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports that the Indians are now considered the favorites to land Jonathan Lucroy.

Lucroy was held out of Saturday's lineup in anticipation of a trade materializing in the next 24 hours. ESPN's Jerry Crasnick said the Mets haven't made much headway in talks for Lucroy while SB Nation's Chris Cotillo shared that the Rangers remain "far apart" in negotiations. That leaves Cleveland as the de facto favorite. The Brewers could be eying top catching prospect Francisco Mejia, who is currently on a 40-game hitting streak for High-A Lynchburg. Though no deal is imminent, the odds are incredibly strong that Lucroy has played his final game as a Brewer.

According to Mark Sheldon of MLB.com, the Mets are "very involved" in talks for Jay Bruce.

The Mets signed Justin Ruggiano on Saturday but are still looking for more outfield depth with Juan Lagares sidelined by a thumb injury and Yoenis Cespedes still hampered by a quad strain. It looked like Bruce might be headed to the Dodgers in a three-team trade on Friday but those talks seemed to have died down. Despite the trade rumors, Bruce will start as usual Saturday against the Padres.

Mets placed 3B Jose Reyes on the 15-day disabled list with an intercostal strain.

Reyes was diagnosed with an intercostal strain earlier this week and will now sit down for at least the next 15 days. The 33-year-old has hit .239 with three homers, eight RBI and three steals since returning to the Mets earlier this month. His roster spot will be absorbed by Justin Ruggiano.

Wade Miley was outstanding in Saturday afternoon's victory over the Cubs, allowing just one run on one hit over seven strong innings.

The left-hander racked up nine strikeouts on the impressive afternoon while walking one. He carried a perfect game into the seventh inning where Dexter Fowler drew a leadoff walk. Kris Bryant then followed with a single, breaking up his no-hit bid. After a sacrifice from Ben Zobrist, a ground ball from Javier Baez plated the Cubs' lone run in the contest. Miley draws a difficult assignment his next time out, as he'll do battle against the Red Sox at home on Thursday, provided he remains with the M's and isn't moved at the trade deadline.
Jul 30 - 5:02 PM

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports the Padres are looking to deal Matt Kemp.

Everything must go. The Padres still aren't done selling even after trading away Andrew Cashner, Melvin Upton, James Shields, Fernando Rodney and Drew Pomeranz. Trading Kemp appears to be the team's next order of business and the Padres are willing to eat a large chunk of his salary to broker a deal. The 31-year-old has had a fine season, hitting .269 with 23 HR and 69 RBI. Rosenthal mentioned Atlanta as a possible fit. It looks like the only Padre safe from being traded is All-Star first baseman Wil Myers.
Jul 30 - 4:28 PM

J.A. Happ delivered a brilliant outing in Saturday's victory over the Orioles, punching out 11 over seven innings of one-run ball.

Happ allowed just three hits and three walks on the day. His lone mistake came on an 0-2 pitch to Pedro Alvarez in the second inning that caught too much of the plate and was deposited into the seats in right field. Happ has been a tremendous addition to the Blue Jays rotation this season, posting a 13-3 record with a 3.16 ERA and 1.16 WHIP. He'll take on the Astros his next time out in Houston on Thursday.
Jul 30 - 4:27 PM

Tony Watson is expected to serve as the Pirates' closer in the wake of Saturday's trade sending Mark Melancon to the Nationals.

Watson has been nothing short of exceptional over six seasons in the Pirates bullpen, compiling a 2.48 ERA, 1.03 WHIP and 8.1 K/9. He has five career saves under his belt already and should pile them up in a hurry over the final few months of the season. Should he falter, Neftali Feliz has prior closing experience and could be considered for the ninth-inning gig.
Jul 30 - 4:14 PM

Royals acquired OF Billy Burns from the Athletics for OF Brett Eibner.

The speedy outfielder fell out of favor with the Athletics after opening the year as their starting center fielder and leadoff hitter. He hit just .234/.270/.303 with 14 stolen bases before his demotion to Triple-A. The Royals will certainly find ways to utilize his blazing speed.
Jul 30 - 3:57 PM

Nationals acquired RHP Mark Melancon from the Pirates for LHP Felipe Rivero and LHP Taylor Hearn.

Though the Nationals missed out in their pursuit of Aroldis Chapman, they managed to land the lockdown closer that they so desperately were seeking on the trade market. Melancon, who is set to hit free agency after this season, owns a minuscule 1.51 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 38/9 K/BB ratio across 41 2/3 innings this season.
