Cubs placed C/INF Steve Clevenger on the 60-day disabled list with a left oblique strain.

Clevenger was expected to be sidelined for at least six weeks, so the Cubs decided to go ahead and clear 40-man roster space. Kameron Loe was claimed off waivers and will assume Clevenger's roster spot.

Lorenzo Cain left Wednesday night's game against the Astros with a Grade 1 groin strain.

That's the least severe type of strain, but Cain could still be looking at an extended absence. The 28-year-old outfielder was off to a decent start this season, boasting a .333 batting average and two steals in 12 games. Jarrod Dyson figures to get a boost in playing time and may be worth an add in fantasy leagues for his speed.

After leaving Wednesday's game in the seventh inning with a hand injury, Hanley Ramirez's X-rays came back negative.

Los Angeles collectively held its breath after Han-Ram was hit by a 90 mph Ryan Vogelsong fastball on the top of his left hand. The star shortstop spiked his helmet and jumped around in agony before exiting, with Justin Turner taking his spot. Consider Ramirez day-to-day.

Fernando Rodney blew his first save of the season and earned the loss, serving up two runs to the Rangers in the ninth inning as they walked off 3-2 winners on Wednesday.

Rodney, who had been 3-for-3 in save opportunities, appeared to have another easy night on his hands, getting the first two outs in the ninth. Then he walked Mitch Moreland, saw David Murphy reach on Brad Miller's throwing error, threw a wild pitch to allow the tying run to score, then gave up the winning run on Leonys Martin's walk-off single. Rodney always finds a way to make it interesting, but he has earned 85 saves and posted a 1.91 ERA over the last two seasons.

Leonys Martin went 2-for-4 with a triple and helped the Rangers walk off in the ninth inning with an RBI single to left-center in Wednesday's win against the Mariners.

Martin tripled and scored in the eighth inning to cut the Rangers' deficit to 2-1, then fueled the Fernando Rodney tire fire in the next inning, driving an outside fastball to the opposite field. Martin has been slow to get it going thus far, but the Rangers are hopeful Wednesday's performance spurs him.

Jose Fernandez allowed three runs (none earned) in seven innings, taking home the no-decision as the Marlins lost to the Nationals on Wednesday night.

Fernandez allowed four hits, walked none, and struck out 10. The only blemish came on Jayson Werth's game-tying three-run home run in the sixth inning, which was set up by catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia's throwing error. As all three runs were unearned, Fernandez lowered his ERA to 2.66. He now has 33 strikeouts in 23 2/3 innings. Fernandez will face the Braves in his next start.
Apr 16 - 10:10 PM

Manny Machado (knee) ran the bases for the first time Wednesday with no problems.

Machado had been running sprints in the days prior, but Wednesday was the first day he ran the bases in his recovery from October knee surgery. He'll continue running the bases for the rest of the week. No indication was given as to when he'll be cleared to take part in extended spring training games, but it shouldn't be too long now.
Apr 16 - 9:51 PM

Julio Teheran ran roughshod over the Phillies' offense in Wednesday's start, shutting them out in a complete game effort to earn the win.

Teheran allowed three hits (all singles), walked none, and struck out four. The Phillies made weak contact against him all night long, only twice enjoying the sight of a runner in scoring position. Teheran has allowed two or fewer earned runs in each of his first four starts of the season, picking up where he left off in 2013. He'll face the Marlins next.
Apr 16 - 9:51 PM

Cliff Lee was dominant in Wednesday's start against the Braves, but earned a loss despite allowing one run in a complete game on Wednesday.

Lee's only blemish came courtesy of an Evan Gattis solo home run in the fourth inning that barely escaped the fence in the left field corner. Overall, Lee struck out 13, allowed 11 hits, and walked one. Over his first four starts, he has exemplified the vagaries of BABIP, but has also been around the strike zone a little too much, some might argue. Regardless, he now sports a 28:2 K:BB ratio.

Juan Lagares told the Newark Star-Ledger that his pulled right hamstring is "not that bad."

"I feel better now," Lagares said. Lagares received the results of his MRI Wednesday and met with the Mets' trainer to talk about treatment plans. He said he believes the injury is a one-to-two week injury, suggesting that he could be back after the 15 days are up. The Mets, however, are going to be cautious with their center fielder.
Apr 16 - 9:12 PM

Angels manager Mike Scioscia said Kole Calhoun will miss 4-6 weeks with a bad ligament sprain in his ankle.

It's a tough blow to the Angels and fantasy owners, as Calhoun was really turning it on before the injury. Calhoun had seven hits in his last 15 at-bats prior to rolling his ankle late in Wednesday's game. The Angels will rely on Collin Cowgill and Brennan Boesch in right field for the time being, but the team may take a look at external options now that Calhoun will be out for a significant period.
Apr 16 - 7:36 PM

Chase Headley is not in the Padres' lineup Wednesday due to a right biceps strain.

It's being called a mild strain, and the third baseman is day-to-day. It's unclear when he sustained the injury. First baseman Yonder Alonso was taking ground balls at third during batting practice before Wednesday's game, so he may see some time at the hot corner in a pinch if Headley misses any more time.
