Jake Peavy spun seven innings of one-run ball while striking out 11 in Sunday's 3-1 victory over the Indians.

Michael Bourn deposited Peavy's first pitch of the game into the right-field seats, but the veteran right-hander gave up just four singles after that and didn't walk a batter. Peavy had one bad inning last week against the Nationals, but he's otherwise been quite impressive this season. He'll carry a 3.93 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 24/1 K/BB ratio over 18 1/3 frames into his next start versus the Twins.

Royals re-signed RHP Jason Frasor to a one-year, $1.25 million contract with a $2 million mutual option for 2016.

There's a $550,000 buyout attached to the option, so the deal will net Frasor at least $1.8 million. He can also earn an additional $500,000 in incentives in both 2015 and 2016. The Royals' big three at the back-end of the bullpen deservedly received most of the attention, but Frasor was also terrific for them in middle relief, posting a 1.53 ERA in 23 appearances after coming over in a trade with the Rangers. The 37-year-old should have another effective year or two left in the tank.

ESPN's Buster Olney reports that Melky Cabrera's preference is to not re-sign with the Blue Jays.

The reasoning is that he wants to get away from the artificial surface at Rogers Centre. Cabrera was already looking unlikely to end up back in Toronto after the club signed Russell Martin to an $82 million contract. The outfielder is said to prefer to play on the East Coast or in the Midwest.

Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that the Indians are "out" on free agent Chase Headley.

The Indians made a few inquiries but have already determined that Headley, who's being courted by several teams, will cost too much. Cleveland is not expected to be a big player in this year's free agent market. Headley seems most likely to re-sign with the Yankees, though the Giants have suddenly emerged as an intriguing potential match with Pablo Sandoval walking as a free agent.

MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez reports that the Diamondbacks have signed Cuban defector Yasmany Tomas to a six-year contract worth $68.5 million.

The 23-year-old corner outfielder was initially said to be seeking a contract worth more than the record six-year, $72.5 million pact that Rusney Castillo got from the Red Sox in August, but there have been questions about Tomas' defensive capabilities so he wasn't able to find that kind of offer. His contract with Arizona comes with an opt-out after four years. The Diamondbacks, under new chief baseball officer Tony La Russa, beat out the Braves, Padres, Giants, and Phillies to land their new right fielder. If the power hype is real, he's going to mash at Chase Field. There isn't a much better fit from a fantasy perspective.

According to FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the Padres and Dodgers have discussed a Matt Kemp trade.

Rosenthal adds, however, that there's been "nothing that recent" and there is "no deal close." Kemp finished the 2014 season in fine form and would give the San Diego offense a needed boost, but the Dodgers may opt to keep him now that Hanley Ramirez has signed with Red Sox. Los Angeles probably needs retain the right-handed power that Kemp provides.

ESPN's Jayson Stark heard from two sources that the Yankees offered the Phillies "a utility player" for shortstop Jimmy Rollins.

That didn't get the job done. The Phillies seem to have a lofty asking price for Rollins, who turns 36 years old this week and is owed $11 million next season in the final year of his four-year, $44 million deal. They're simply not going to be able to get a top prospect or young, productive major league talent in exchange for the veteran shortstop.

Rays designated INF/OF Sean Rodriguez for assignment.

Due another raise through arbitration, Rodriguez was considered a likely non-tender candidate, so the Rays simply decided to cut ties a little bit early. He could draw interest on waivers due to his versatility. Rodriguez batted .211/.258/.443 with 12 home runs over 259 plate appearances this past season.

Rays signed RHP Ernesto Frieri to a one-year, $800,000 contract.

Frieri could make as much as $3.15 million with incentives. The 29-year-old is coming off a nightmare year in which he posted a 7.34 ERA over 48 appearances between the Angels and Pirates, but he has enjoyed great success in the past. Known for their success with reclamation projects, the Rays will attempt to strike gold once again.

Ryan Braun said Wednesday that his right thumb is back to 100 percent since surgery.

Braun underwent a cryotherapy procedure on October 2 in hopes of fixing an inflamed nerve at the base of his thumb that has bothered him for nearly two years. He quickly resumed swinging a bat and hasn't had any setbacks. "It definitely worked," Braun said Wednesday. The real test will be playing in games, but this is encouraging news for the Brewers.

According to Clark Spencer and Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, the Marlins have inquired about trades for Chris Davis of the Orioles and Evan Gattis of the Braves.

These are just two of the options the Marlins are looking at as they attempt to upgrade from Garrett Jones at first base. They would likely have to give up quality pieces for either player, potentially including top prospect left-hander Andrew Heaney. Davis is under team control though 2015 while Gattis is under team control through 2018. Mike Morse gives the Marlins an alternative in free agency, but the club only has "lukewarm" interest in signing him.

Corey Brock of MLB.com said it's believed the Padres have talked with the Red Sox about a potential trade for Yoenis Cespedes.

After falling short in the Pablo Sandoval sweepstakes, Brock cites a source that said the club has turned its attention to trades. Among the possible targets is Cespedes, who could be on his way out of a crowded Red Sox outfield. Brock mentions Ian Kennedy as a potential match in a trade, a name that has been brought up often when gossiping about a hypothetical deal between the clubs. Where there's smoke there's usually fire, but for now we'll have to settle for smoke.
