Stephen Pryor will not require surgery to repair a right lat tear.

It's good news, though the Mariners still aren't sure how long the reliever might be sidelined. Pryor was off to a terrific start before getting injured, having tossed 7 1/3 scoreless innings while striking out seven.

Jose Abreu launched his 30th home run of the season on Friday, powering the White Sox to a 9-5 victory over the Twins in Minnesota.

The White Sox came out of the gate firing in this one, with a pair of singles to start the game followed by Abreu’s three-run blast off Kevin Correia. He finished the night 2-for-5 with three RBI and a pair of runs scored, and is now hitting .292/.341/.620 with 30 long balls and 77 RBI in his first 353 big league at-bats. He's easily the favorite to take home Rookie of the Year honors in the American League.

David Price struck out 10 batters and yielded three runs over eight innings Friday in a win over the Red Sox.

Price was on the losing side of things before the Rays rallied for four runs in the seventh inning. The red-hot Rays have now won eight straight games, so a Price trade is looking more unlikely by the moment. The southpaw has now gone at least eight innings in eight out of his last nine starts. His ERA went up a tick from 3.06 to 3.08 in the win, but he continues to be money for fantasy owners.

Domonic Brown homered and drove home three runs, powering the Phillies to a 9-5 victory over the Diamondbacks on Friday.

Brown delivered an RBI groundout in the first inning, then really broke things open with a two-run shot off Evan Marshall in the seventh. It has been a very disappointing season to this point for Brown, who is slashing just .231/.281/.341 with seven homers and 49 RBI.

Denard Span went 4-for-5 with an RBI single, a run scored, and a stolen base Friday against the Reds.

Span now has back-to-back four-hit games. Chicago's Emilio Bonifacio is the only other player in MLB to do that this season. The 30-year-old is now up to 18 steals, just two shy of his total from all of last season. He should be owned in most mixed leagues at this point.
Jul 25 - 10:33 PM

Jose Bautista went 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI in Friday's loss to the Yankees.

Bautista was the extent of the Jays' offense on this night, slugging a three-run homer in the first inning and a solo shot in the third. It was his second multi-homer game of the season. He's now up to 20 home runs for the year, which ties him for ninth in the American League.
Jul 25 - 10:03 PM

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that the Cardinals have reached an agreement with free agent catcher A.J. Pierzynski.

The veteran backstop is already in Chicago and will join the team before Saturday's game. His arrival likely signals the end of George Kottaras' brief time with the Cardinals. Pierzynzki should see the bulk of the playing time behind the plate, and is certainly worth a look in deep two-catcher mixed leagues.
Jul 25 - 9:53 PM

Giants purchased the contract of Dan Uggla from Triple-A Fresno.

Uggla, who was signed to a minor league contract on Monday, will now be given an opportunity to see regular work at second base for the Giants with Marco Scutaro and Ehire Adrianza on the shelf. He's batting seventh in his Giants debut on Friday, and could carve out value in NL-only formats if he can find his power stroke.
Jul 25 - 6:55 PM

Pedro Alvarez (knee) remained out of the Pirates' lineup Friday.

Alvarez hasn't played since exiting Tuesday's game against the Dodgers with left knee discomfort. The fact that he wasn't able to play following Thursday's off day is a bad sign, but to this point the Pirates haven't given any indication that the disabled list might be a possibility. Brent Morel is at third base Friday.
Jul 25 - 5:20 PM

Yoenis Cespedes is back in the Athletics' lineup Friday.

Cespedes sat out Thursday after spraining his right thumb on an awkward swing Wednesday. Not only is he back in the lineup Friday, he's making just his second start this season in center field.
Jul 25 - 4:56 PM

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the trade market for Jonathan Papelbon "seems light, if existent."

Papelbon has had a fine season, posting a 1.91 ERA while saving 24 games in 28 chances, but Heyman says "there seemingly isn't strong interest," especially with the Angels and Tigers having already acquired relievers. The Phillies are prepared to eat a portion of the $18 million guaranteed to Papelbon through the end of next season, but he also has a vesting option for 2016, something that Heyman notes "can be sticky for acquiring teams."
Jul 25 - 4:35 PM

David Ortiz is back in the Red Sox' lineup Friday.

Big Papi didn't play Thursday after exiting Wednesday's game with back spasms, but he's made a quick recovery. The designated hitter will be facing David Price, who he had some harsh words for last month after Price hit him with a pitch.
