Mariners recalled RHP Hector Noesi from Triple-A Tacoma.

Noesi struggled mightily this spring and was one of Seattle's first cuts in camp. He'll serve as a mop-up man.

David Peralta is not in the Diamondbacks' lineup Thursday afternoon against the Rockies.

Jeremy Hazelbaker will start in right field and bat leadoff versus Colorado right-hander Antonio Senzatela. It's just a quick breather for Peralta, who tallied four hits in Wednesday night's blowout victory. Brandon Drury is also on the bench Thursday for the Diamondbacks.

Cubs placed OF Jason Heyward on the 10-day disabled list with a laceration on his right hand.

Heyward suffered the injury Sunday when he dove for a ball on the warning track and the cut still needs time to heal. Mark Zagunis has been called up from Triple-A Iowa to give the Cubs much-needed outfield depth.

David Kaplan of CSN Chicago reports the Cubs are sending Kyle Schwarber to Triple-A Iowa.

Kaplan says Schwarber is "not expected to be gone long" and that it's simply an "opportunity to clear his head." The 24-year-old slugger was the toast of the town after returning for last year's World Series, but he has batted just .171/.295/.378 through 64 games this season. The power numbers have been fine, but Schwarber needs to find some consistency and will try to do so against a lower level of competition.

Athletics placed 3B Matt Chapman on the 10-day disabled list with an infection in his left knee.

Chapman suffered a gash on his knee a couple weeks ago at Triple-A Nashville and the wound became infected shortly after his callup to Oakland. He's been prescribed antibiotics, but it's not clear when he might be able to return to the A's active roster. The 24-year-old third baseman was 3-for-14 with three RBI over his first four major league games.

Athletics designated C Stephen Vogt for assignment.

Vogt was an American League All-Star in 2015 and 2016, but the 32-year-old catcher had put up a weak .217/.287/.357 batting line in 174 plate appearances this season. Bruce Maxwell has been recalled from Triple-A to serve as Josh Phegley's backup.
Jun 22 - 11:31 AM

Pirates placed C Francisco Cervelli on the 7-day concussion disabled list.

Cervelli initially suffered the concussion on June 6 and still doesn't feel quite right. Elias Diaz and Chris Stewart will fill in at catcher for the Bucs.

Dexter Fowler (quad) is out of the Cardinals' lineup Thursday afternoon against the Phillies.

Fowler departed Wednesday night's comeback win over the Phillies after experiencing tightness in his left quad in the top of the 10th inning. He's considered day-to-day for now. Tommy Pham will start in center field for the Cardinals in Thursday's series finale at Citizens Bank Park.

Justin Verlander spanned 5 2/3 innings on Wednesday night, allowing four hits, three runs and a walk in a no-decision against Seattle.

Verlander collected a season-high 11 strikeouts. He tormented Seattle early, taking a perfect game into the sixth inning. Jarrod Dyson ruined his bid for perfection with a bunt single that eventually sparked a three-run rally. Verlander handed the bullpen a one-run lead but Shane Greene promptly gave it up by allowing four runs in the seventh inning. Last year’s Cy Young runner-up will carry a six-start winless streak into his next outing Tuesday against the Royals.

Nelson Cruz plated three runs Wednesday in the Mariners’ comeback win over the Tigers.

Seattle didn’t have its first base-runner until the sixth inning, but that didn’t stop the Mariners from stealing a 7-5 victory. Cruz was a seminal figure in Seattle’s comeback, narrowing the gap to 4-3 with a two-run double in the sixth before giving the Mariners an insurance run with an RBI single in the seventh. A recent MRI showed a minor tear in his right calf, but that hasn’t done much to slow Cruz, who leads the American League with 58 RBI.

Matt Kemp hit a game-ending two-run homer to beat the Giants 5-3 in 11 innings on Wednesday.

He was 0-for-4 with three strikeouts when he got a fifth chance in the bottom of the 11th inning of a tie game. He lifted a ball the opposite way that just barely scraped over the right field wall for the walk-off. Kemp is no longer the MVP-caliber 30/30 threat he was a few years ago but he is having a good fantasy season. He is rocking a .320 batting average with 12 home runs, 30 runs and 35 RBI. He has yet to steal a base successfully and only had one last year.
Jun 22 - 2:15 AM

Yasmani Grandal unleashed on the Mets, hammering a pair of home runs Wednesday in the Dodgers’ 8-2 victory.

He took Tyler Pill deep for a solo shot in the sixth and made Neil Ramirez his next victim with another solo blast in the eighth. Grandal has had a monster series, gashing the Mets by going 5-for-9 with three homers over his last two games. Wednesday was Grandal’s first multi-homer game since Opening Day.
