David Ortiz (heel) told reporters that he is ready to join the Red Sox lineup on Friday night.

Ortiz has missed the first 19 days of the 2013 regular season with inflammation in both of his heels. But he has been playing in minor league rehab games without discomfort and can be added to fantasy lineups immediately. The Red Sox are expected to demote outfielder Jackie Bradley in a corresponding move.

Kris Bryant will undergo a precautionary MRI on his right ankle.

Bryant suffered a mild sprain of his right ankle while running the bases in the third inning on Thursday. The Cubs appear confident that it's nothing serious, but there should be more clarity on his status soon.
Apr 28 - 6:24 PM

Angels placed RHP Huston Street on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 24, with a left oblique strain.

Street felt some discomfort while making warmup throws on Wednesday and will require an extended absence. The Angels will make a corresponding roster move on Friday. Joe Smith is expected to fill in at closer and should be picked up in all fantasy leagues.
Apr 28 - 5:44 PM

White Sox placed RHP David Robertson on the bereavement list.

Robertson will be away from the club for 3-7 days following a death in the family. Nate Jones has been excellent in a setup role this season for the White Sox and should slide seamlessly into a fill-in closer role.
Apr 28 - 2:13 PM

Thursday's game between the Pirates and Rockies has been postponed due to wet weather in Denver.

It was actually snowing at one point this morning at Coors Field. Tyler Chatwood was set to go for the Rockies and Juan Nicasio was scheduled for the Bucs. Those starters will presumably be pushed back to Friday.
Apr 28 - 1:37 PM

Miguel Montero underwent an MRI for his back.

Montero has already been placed on the disabled list after experiencing a flareup of the chronic bulging disk issue that has bothered him since 2013. It sounds like this could be an extended absence. David Ross and Tim Federowicz will share time behind the plate, with prospect Willson Contreras waiting in the wings for a mid-summer callup.
Apr 28 - 1:06 PM

Michael Taylor is out of the Nationals' starting lineup on Thursday afternoon against the Phillies.

Matt den Dekker will start in center field and bat leadoff versus Phillies righty Aaron Nola. Taylor is slashing just .192/.231/.301 in 18 games this season and is in danger of losing significant playing time with Ben Revere (oblique) getting closer and closer to activation. Anthony Rendon is also sitting out Thursday, with Stephen Drew filling in at third base.
Apr 28 - 12:14 PM

Brewers transferred RHP Matt Garza from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

Which means he is going to be sidelined until at least early June. Garza was placed on the 15-day disabled list April 5, retroactive to April 2, with a right lat strain. The initial recovery timetable was 4-6 weeks.
Apr 28 - 11:03 AM

Brewers placed 2B Scooter Gennett on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right oblique.

Gennett suffered the injury during batting practice Tuesday on a cold evening at Wrigley Field. He could be out for a month. It's an especially tough blow because the second baseman was off to a great start this season, sporting an .877 OPS and four home runs in 18 games. Yadiel Rivera, Colin Walsh, and Hernan Perez will fill in at second base.
Apr 28 - 10:59 AM

Carlos Gomez (wrist) expects to return to the Astros' starting lineup on Friday.

Gomez made an early exit from Wednesday's game against the Mariners after taking a pitch off his right wrist, but X-rays turned up negative. This might be a good excuse to get the ultra-active 30-year-old center fielder some physical and mental rest. He's batting just .197/.228/.250 through 21 games this season. Preston Tucker entered to play left field on Wednesday with Colby Rasmus shifting to center.
Apr 28 - 8:20 AM

Aledmys Diaz had a homer, a walk, and a single in the Cardinals' 11-4 rout of Arizona on Wednesday.

Diaz finished the night 2-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored, and he's now batting .468/.500/.823 with four home runs over his first 66 major league plate appearances. This incredible start from the 25-year-old Cuban shortstop is already in historic territory. Maybe it's time for Cardinals manager Mike Matheny to hit him higher than eighth.
Apr 28 - 1:22 AM

Adam Wainwright notched his first win of the season on Wednesday night against the Diamondbacks.

Wainwright finally seemed to have better feel for his off-speed stuff, though Brandon Drury smacked a hanging curve for a two-run shot in the bottom of the second and Paul Goldschmidt hit a solo bomb to deep center in the bottom of the fourth. Waino issued only one walk and struck out five, moving to 1-3 on the year as the Cardinals backed him with 11 runs on 14 hits. He'll try to stay in the groove he found Wednesday in his next start at home against the punchless Phillies.
