Brett Anderson (back) is scheduled to go three innings in a rehab start Thursday with High-A Rancho Cucamonga.

It will be his rehab debut, and he'll probably have another 3-4 minor league outings on top of it before the Dodgers consider him a realistic option for their starting rotation. Anderson has been out all season following March back surgery. He is aiming to make his first start for Los Angeles in mid-August.

Rival executives talking to the Phillies about Jeremy Hellickson tell ESPN's Jayson Stark that the Phillies want "one of your top five prospects."

The quality of that top five obviously varies greatly from team to team, but the point is the Phillies want something significant in return for the 29-year-old right-hander, who boasts a 3.65 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and 107/28 K/BB ratio in 125 2/3 innings this season. Stark says Philadelphia would be content with getting a draft pick when Hellickson departs via free agency this winter. He's well on his way to a qualifying offer.
Jul 27 - 1:22 PM

Logan Morrison (wrist) is back in the Rays' starting lineup on Wednesday against the Dodgers.

It'll be his first start for Tampa Bay since last Monday. Morrison was batting .231/.308/.376 with 10 home runs and 31 RBI in 86 games before coming down with wrist and forearm tendinitis in mid-July.
Jul 27 - 12:44 PM

Yasiel Puig (hamstring) remains out of the Dodgers' starting lineup on Wednesday.

Puig has made just one pinch-hitting appearance since tweaking his right hamstring last Thursday in St. Louis. But he was able to run the bases Tuesday and could be available off the bench Wednesday versus the Rays. Scott Van Slyke is starting in right field.

According to Jon Morosi of FOX Sports, the Giants "remain in active talks" with the Padres to acquire starting pitcher Andrew Cashner.

There was a report that Cashner might be traded before his start Tuesday night in Toronto, and there was also talk of that happening before his outing last Thursday in St. Louis. He pitched pretty well in both of those starts and seems likely to get moved to a contender by the August 1 trade deadline despite his 4.76 overall ERA. There has also been interest from the Marlins, Orioles, and Rangers.

Troy Tulowitzki is getting the day off Wednesday.

Darwin Barney will start at shortstop and bat eighth versus Padres right-hander Luis Perdomo. This is just a day of maintenance for Tulo, who's batting .317/.348/.500 with four homers and 17 RBI so far in July.
Jul 27 - 10:29 AM

Melvin Upton is batting cleanup in his first start with the Blue Jays on Wednesday.

Upton was acquired from San Diego on Tuesday morning in exchange for pitching prospect Hansel Rodriguez. He will start in left field over Michael Saunders with the Padres throwing right-hander Luis Perdomo.

Hanley Ramirez is not in the Red Sox starting lineup Wednesday afternoon against the Tigers.

Travis Shaw will start at first base and Aaron Hill will start at third base. This is just a day of rest for Hanley, who's batting .306/.411/.645 so far in July.

Padres placed 3B Yangervis Solarte on the family medical emergency leave list.

He'll be gone for the next 3-7 days to handle a private matter. Solarte has registered a cool .856 OPS with 10 home runs and 40 RBI in 61 games this season.
Jul 27 - 10:13 AM

Ichiro Suzuki is out of the Marlins' starting lineup on Wednesday against the Phillies.

Ichiro is three hits from 3,000, but the Marlins don't want to push the 42-year-old too hard. He went 1-for-5 with a single in Tuesday's 5-0 defeat of Philadelphia.
