Tigers placed RHP Octavio Dotel on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 20, with right elbow inflammation.

Dotel has been dealing with the issue for the past couple of weeks, so the Tigers are hopeful that some extended rest will do the trick. Bruce Rondon has been called up from Triple-A Toledo in a corresponding roster move.

Willson Contreras blasted a go-ahead two-run homer in the sixth inning on Sunday, powering the Cubs to a 5-3 victory over the Cardinals.

Matt Carpenter was removed from Sunday's game against the Cubs due to right quadriceps tightness.

The injury appeared to occur while Carpenter was running the bases. The severity of the injury is not yet known. Luke Voit replaced him at first base on Sunday. Look for an update from the Cardinals on Carpenter's status after the conclusion of Sunday's game.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said after Sunday's game that Clayton Kershaw would be placed on the 10-day disabled list.

Roberts was quick to point out that he didn't feel this injury was similar to the herniated disc issue that cost Kershaw two months during the 2016 season. It does look like it'll sideline him for a couple of weeks however. No timetable will be placed on his potential return until he meets with team doctors on Monday.

Kenley Jansen blew his first save of the season when he surrendered a three-run, game-tying home run to Matt Adams in the ninth inning of Sunday's 5-4, 10-inning win over the Braves.

Jansen was struggling by degrees even before Adams socked the game-tying home run with two outs, having allowed singles to Freddie Freeman and Matt Kemp to initially put the Dodgers' 4-1 lead in jeopardy. Blown save aside, Jansen has been brilliant overall. He owns a 1.49 ERA, 0.64 WHIP and 62/2 K/BB ratio for the season as a whole and is now 24-of-25 in save chances.
Jul 23 - 8:24 PM

Didi Gregorius went 2-for-5 with two solo home runs and a walk in Sunday's 6-4 win over the Mariners.

Gregorius cracked solo dingers off Yovani Gallardo in the second and fourth innings. Both were short shorts down the extreme right field line and neither went longer than 360 feet, but they counted all the same. The shortstop is slashing .304/.335/.495 with 14 homers and 44 RBI overall. He has turned himself into an incredibly consistent hitter since joining the Yankees.
Jul 23 - 7:55 PM

Mark Reynolds went 3-for-5 with two home runs and three total RBI in Sunday's 13-3 win over the Pirates.

Reynolds mashed a two-run tater in the sixth inning and later came through with a monster solo shot in the eighth which traveled an estimated 460 feet. This was the veteran first baseman's second two-homer game of the season and he is now up to 22 long balls for the campaign as a whole. In addition, Reynolds is hitting .286/.375/.525 and has driven in 70 runs. He is looking to crack 30 home runs for the first time since he swatted 37 in 2011 with the Orioles.
Jul 23 - 7:03 PM

Red Sox team president Dave Dombrowski announced Sunday that top prospect Rafael Devers will be recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket to play third base.

Devers was just moved up to Triple-A on July 14 where he hit .355 with a pair of homers and four RBI in his eight games. The 20-year-old sensation should get a chance to hold the position for the remainder of the season and could be a worthwhile investment in mixed leagues.
Jul 23 - 6:20 PM

Mark Trumbo homered and doubled in the Orioles' 9-7 defeat of the Astros on Sunday.

His solo shot in the bottom of the seventh inning tied the game at 7-7, and the O's took the lead for good in the bottom of the eighth. Trumbo has tallied three home runs since the All-Star break and he's now sporting a .249/.311/.425 batting line with 17 homers and 50 RBI in 98 total games this season. He should be a nice source of power down the stretch.
Jul 23 - 6:02 PM

Whit Merrifield blasted a pair of solo home runs on Sunday, helping to power the Royals to a walk-off victory.

Merrifield started a trio of back-to-back-to-back solo homers off of Derek Holland in the fourth inning, then hit a game-tying solo blast in the eighth inning. It was the first multi-homer game of his career. Merrifield finished the day 2-for-3 plus a walk and is slashing a robust .293/.337/.489 with 10 homers and 41 RBI on the season.

Rougned Odor homered twice Sunday in the Rangers' 6-5 comeback win over the Rays.

The second baseman finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBI in the afternoon victory at Tropicana Field. He's batting .214/.252/.404 with 19 home runs and 43 RBI in 98 total games this year.
Jul 23 - 5:35 PM

Stephen Strasburg was removed from Sunday's start against the Diamondbacks after two innings due to an apparent injury.

No word yet on the reason for Strasburg's departure, but it's likely to be health related. Before departing, the right-hander had issued three walks and allowed a hit while striking out two in two scoreless innings. Look for the Nationals to provide an update on his status soon.
