Chris Capuano threw a bullpen session on Wednesday and reported no discomfort in his left calf.

Capuano is expected to return from the 15-day disabled list on May 3 -- the first day he is eligible. He will make one rehab start before rejoining the Dodgers' rotation.

Dioner Navarro (head) is out of the Blue Jays' starting lineup on Wednesday versus the Orioles.

Blue Jays manager John Gibbons told reporters that Navarro is "a little fuzzy" after taking a foul tip off his mask on Tuesday night. He passed an initial concussion test and is considered day-to-day.

John Lackey (arm) is scheduled to pitch in Friday's series-opener against the Reds.

Lackey was skipped from his last turn after complaining of arm fatigue, but he felt better after a side session on Tuesday. The veteran right-hander has an ugly 5.05 ERA in 46 1/3 innings since joining the Cardinals.
Sep 17 - 5:54 PM

Michael Wacha (shoulder) will return to the Cardinals' rotation Saturday against the Reds.

Wacha reported feeling "great" after a 30-pitch bullpen session on Sunday and then extended himself without issue in another bullpen session Wednesday, so he's been given the go-ahead to pitch this weekend versus the visiting Reds. The 23-year-old right-hander has been battling a shoulder issue since June. The Cardinals want to see what he's capable of before October arrives.
Sep 17 - 5:52 PM

Ryan Zimmerman (hamstring) played five innings of defense in a simulated game Wednesday at the Nationals' spring training complex in Viera, Florida.

Zimmerman spent three of those innings at first base and the other two at third, reporting no issues with his hamstring. He's scheduled to DH on Thursday and will then play seven innings of left field on Friday. The Nationals are hoping to have him back on their active roster in some capacity for the final week of the regular season (and then into the playoffs).
Sep 17 - 5:29 PM

Glen Perkins (neck) won't pitch on Wednesday night.

Perkins, who's been dealing with neck discomfort all month, allowed a three-run homer to blow a save opportunity on Tuesday. He was scheduled to be examined by Twins team doctors on Wednesday afternoon. Jared Burton will close if needed Wednesday versus Detroit.
Sep 17 - 5:25 PM

Carlos Beltran is out of the Yankees' starting lineup on Wednesday due to a private family matter.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi isn't divulging any details and told reporters Wednesday that Beltran will be allowed to "take as much time as he needs." The veteran outfielder is back in New York while the Yankees finish up a series at Tropicana Field.
Sep 17 - 5:07 PM

Giancarlo Stanton (face) won't play again this year.

Stanton is making steady progress from the facial fractures and lacerations that he suffered September 11 when he was struck by a Mike Fiers pitch, but the Marlins are going to play it safe with their 24-year-old slugger. He should have a fairly normal offseason and challenge for National League MVP honors again in 2015.
Sep 17 - 5:03 PM

Arismendy Alcantara (wrist) is aiming to return to the Cubs' starting lineup on Thursday.

Alcantara suffered a right wrist sprain when he slammed into the outfield wall on Monday and has missed two straight games, but he can throw with no pain and will attempt batting practice on Thursday afternoon. If it goes well, look for him to return.
Sep 17 - 4:59 PM

Nick Castellanos (foot) is back in the Tigers' starting lineup Wednesday against the Twins.

Castellanos was a late scratch Tuesday after fouling a ball off his left foot in his final at-bat on Monday. It was never a serious concern. The 22-year-old third baseman is batting .266/.313/.405 with 10 home runs and 60 RBI in 137 games this season.
Sep 17 - 4:54 PM

Alex Avila (head) is absent from the Tigers' starting lineup again on Wednesday night.

Avila hasn't played since taking a foul tip off his mask on Sunday. He has a history of concussions, so the Tigers are treating the situation carefully. Bryan Holaday will start at catcher against the Twins.
Sep 17 - 4:49 PM

Mark Teixeira (wrist) is back in the Yankees' starting lineup on Wednesday night.

Teixeira missed Tuesday night's game due to wrist discomfort. It's apparently a manageable issue. He's playing first base and batting cleanup versus the Rays.
