Orioles recalled LHP Zach Britton from Triple-A Norfolk.

Britton got off to a great start at Norfolk, posting a 1.98 ERA in 13 2/3 innings. He'll be available out of the bullpen over the next few days, but the Orioles are hoping they can afford to hold him out to start on Monday.

Christian Yelich (back) remains out of the Marlins' starting lineup on Wednesday in Tampa Bay.

Yelich has now missed four straight games with what's being called "back spasms." Cole Gillespie will start in left field and bat eighth against Matt Andriese.
May 25 - 2:41 PM

Giancarlo Stanton is not in the Marlins' lineup Wednesday.

Ichiro Suzuki will play right field and bat leadoff versus Rays right-hander Matt Andriese. Stanton hit his 12th home run of the season on Tuesday night, but he had been in a minor slump since an outfield collision with Marcell Ozuna on May 15 in Washington, D.C. He'll take a day of mental and physical rest.
May 25 - 2:39 PM

Denard Span is getting a normal day of rest Wednesday.

He was in the original lineup, but Giants manager Bruce Bochy ultimately elected to give the 32-year-old outfielder a day off for the matinee game versus the Padres. Span should be fine to return to action for Friday's series opener at Coors Field. Gregor Blanco is starting in center field Wednesday and Kelby Tomlinson is playing left.
May 25 - 2:35 PM

Blue Jays activated 2B Devon Travis from the 15-day disabled list.

Travis will make his triumphant return on Wednesday night against the Yankees. It will be his first game since last July 28, when he hit the disabled list for a second time with a left shoulder injury. The injury would eventually require season-ending surgery. Travis batted .304/.361/.498 with eight homers and three steals in 62 games last year for Toronto and he swung the bat well on his lengthy minor league rehab assignment. The 25-year-old second baseman is a must-own.
May 25 - 2:29 PM

Wil Myers (forearm) is out again Wednesday.

Myers felt discomfort in his troublesome left forearm late Monday while picking up a baseball. It's not considered a serious setback, but the Padres will play it cautiously just in case. Brett Wallace is at first base Wednesday versus Giants righty Jake Peavy.
May 25 - 1:31 PM

Asdrubal Cabrera is day-to-day with back spasms.

Cabrera left Wednesday's game against the Nationals in the bottom of the first inning, with Matt Reynolds taking over at shortstop. Asdrubal apparently felt the discomfort during pregame warmups. This doesn't sound like a serious issue, but you never know with the Mets and their recent rash of back issues.
May 25 - 1:28 PM

Hunter Pence (hamstring) remains absent from the Giants' starting lineup on Wednesday afternoon.

Pence has been dealing with right hamstring discomfort since Saturday and told reporters Tuesday that he plans to take it easy and let the muscle fully heal. There's a chance he could return Friday after Thursday's scheduled off day, but it's not guaranteed. Jarrett Parker is starting in left field and Gregor Blanco is in right field Wednesday versus Padres right-hander James Shields.
May 25 - 1:25 PM

Buster Posey is not in the Giants' starting lineup on Wednesday afternoon against the Padres.

It's just a standard day of rest for Posey. Trevor Brown will get the start at catcher and bat eighth with the Padres throwing right-hander James Shields.
May 25 - 1:22 PM

Athletics activated 2B Jed Lowrie from the 15-day disabled list.

Lowrie wound up missing exactly 15 days with a bruised right shin. The second baseman returns Wednesday to a cool .302/.341/.345 batting line with 17 RBI in 32 games.
May 25 - 1:03 PM

Matt Carpenter is out of the Cardinals' lineup Wednesday because his wife is about to have a baby.

It seemed odd that the Cards would rest their best left-handed hitter against Cubs right-hander Jake Arrieta. Now we have a good reason for the absence. Ruben Tejada is starting at third base and batting eighth in the afternoon tilt at Busch Stadium. Kolten Wong will take a turn at leadoff.
May 25 - 12:57 PM

Francisco Lindor is out of the Indians' starting lineup Wednesday afternoon against the White Sox.

It's a simple day of maintenance for Lindor. Jose Ramirez will draw the start at shortstop and bat third Wednesday versus White Sox left-hander Jose Quintana.
