Jordan Zimmermann held the Braves scoreless for eight innings as the Nationals won 2-0 on Wednesday.

Zimmermann started May the way he ended April -- red hot. The right-hander allowed just two baserunners in his eight innings, striking out eight in the process. He now owns a 1.64 ERA and 0.75 WHIP to go along with his 5-1 record on the year, and he has to at least be in the (incredibly premature) discussion for the Cy Young Award in the National League. He will get the Tigers early next week.

Chris Tillman spun eight shutout frames in a 5-1 win over the Angels on Thursday night.

Tillman limited the Angels to just three hits (all singles) and two walks while striking out three. He retired 11 batters in a row at one point. His outing matched Wei-Yin Chen (April 26) for the longest start by an Oriole this season. While Tillman got off to a bit of a shaky start this season, he has allowed just three runs over his last three starts and now owns a 3.63 ERA. He'll look to keep it going next week against the Royals.

A second opinion on Gavin Floyd's right elbow has confirmed a tear of his flexor muscle.

Floyd's ulnar collateral ligament is also unstable. He will get a third opinion from Dr. David Altchek on Monday in New York. Floyd admitted Thursday that surgery is a possibility, and it seems likely that he'll have an operation if Altchek offers a similar diagnosis. If Floyd does go under the knife, it will surely end his season.

Andrew Bailey is nursing soreness in his right bicep.

And now we know was it was Joel Hanrahan and not Bailey that closed down the Red Sox' win on Thursday. Bailey hasn't pitched since Sunday but felt the soreness prior to Wednesday's contest. At this point, it doesn't appear that he'll be placed on the disabled list, but Hanrahan will be used in the ninth inning for now.

Ryan Madson recently had a minor procedure to remove scar tissue from his right elbow.

Scar tissue usually tears off while a pitcher is throwing and rehabbing, but it didn't for Madson so he had it removed via surgery. It's just a minor setback for the reliever, as he has already resumed playing catch. Though the Angels have not set a timetable, Madson should be able to throw from a mound again soon and still might be back before the end of the month.
May 2 - 10:22 PM

Jayson Werth is expected to miss a couple games with hamstring tightness.

Werth returned to the lineup Thursday's despite a sore hamstring and ankle, but he had to be removed in the fifth inning. The good news is that he's not expected to need a trip to the disabled list. Fantasy owners shouldn't expect to see him this weekend, though.
May 2 - 10:03 PM

Jason Heyward (appendectomy) is scheduled to take dry swings on Saturday.

It's two days earlier that when he originally planned to begin baseball activities. Heyward has been limited to walking on a treadmill and riding a stationary bike to this point. The outfielder indicated earlier this week that he's hoping to return in late May, but on Thursday he said he would be "disappointed if I had to be out that long." The Braves have been mum on a timetable for the outfielder.

Colby Lewis (elbow) could begin a rehab assignment for Triple-A Round Rock on May 9.

Lewis will throw again in extended spring training on Saturday and could be cleared to report to Round Rock after that if all goes well. The right-hander is expected to rejoin the Rangers' rotation before the end of the month and is worth stashing away in fantasy leagues.
May 2 - 7:35 PM

Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said Thursday that Aramis Ramirez (knee) will not play a full nine innings or in back-to-back games for a while after being activated from the disabled list.

Ramirez is expected to be activated on Friday without playing any rehab games, so the Brewers are going to ease him back into action. Despite the fact that he won't be seeing a full workload, fantasy owners should feel comfortable in going ahead and activating him.
May 2 - 7:13 PM

White Sox manager Robin Ventura is hoping that Jake Peavy (back) will be ready to start on Sunday.

Peavy was scratched from his scheduled outing Thursday after his back locked up on him during stretching on Wednesday. While Ventura is hoping the veteran right-hander will need just a few days of rest, it's no guarantee that he'll be ready to take the ball on Sunday.
May 2 - 7:02 PM

Rockies signed RHP Roy Oswalt to a minor league contract.

In fantasy terms, it's obviously not a good landing spot for Oswalt. It certainly makes sense from the Rockies' perspective, though, as they need all the help they can get in the rotation. Oswalt will report to extended spring training first before being assigned to a minor league affiliate. The veteran right-hander has been staying in shape near his home in Mississippi, so it shouldn't take him too long to build up the necessary stamina. The Rockies haven't guaranteed him anything, but as long as Oswalt doesn't look totally lost, he should be added to the big club's rotation before long. He posted a 5.80 ERA in 17 appearances last season with the Rangers but had a nice 59/11 K/BB ratio over 59 frames.
May 2 - 6:20 PM

Francisco Rodriguez has secured a work visa and is expected to report to High-A Brevard County next week.

K-Rod signed a minor league deal with Milwaukee last month and has been pitching in extended spring training while awaiting his visa. He's expected to spend around 3-5 days in High-A before making his way to Triple-A Nashville. The Brewers have until mid-May to decide whether to call him up to the major league bullpen or offer him his release. The veteran reliever will make $2 million if he's added to the major league roster.
