Ted Lilly (rib cage) played catch in the outfield Wednesday evening and reported feeling fine.

Lilly was given a cortisone shot in his sore rib cage on Tuesday and has experienced swift improvement. He should be able to take his next turn in the Los Angeles starting rotation Saturday against the Giants. Matthew Magill is the Dodgers' backup option.

Angels signed RHP Javy Guerra to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Guerra had himself a rough season in 2015. Not only was he outrighted from the 40-man roster of the White Sox in May, he was then hit with a 50-game suspension in early July after failing a drug test. Back in 2014 -- prior to all that messiness -- the 30-year-old right-hander held a 2.91 ERA, 1.31 WHIP, and 38/20 K/BB ratio in 46 1/3 innings with Chicago. It's a no-risk bullpen flier for the Angels, but there's not any real fantasy upside here.

Braves signed RHP Carlos Torres to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Torres was designated for assignment by the Mets in a surprise late-January move and subsequently elected to become a free agent. There was interest from the Asian market, but the 33-year-old right-hander opted for a Braves team that should allow him a semi-clear path to an Opening Day bullpen gig. Torres was excellent with the Mets in 2014 before struggling in 2015. He's a decent bet for a bounceback in 2016.

ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the potential contract being discussed between the Orioles and free agent right-hander Yovani Gallardo would be worth three years, $40-45 million.

Nothing's official yet, but there's a ton of smoke here. Multiple outlets have reported that Gallardo and the O's are closing in on a contract. The club will have to surrender the 14th overall selection in this summer's amateur draft should they sign the soon-to-be 30-year-old right-hander, but he provides an upgrade for a rotation that has needed a boost. Last season, Gallardo pitched to a 3.42 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, and 121/68 K/BB ratio across 184 1/3 innings (33 starts) for the Rangers. Should the Orioles ink Gallardo to a contract, they could next pursue outfielder Dexter Fowler. Pedro Alvarez and Jay Bruce are outside options as well.

MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez hears that Cuban outfielder Lazaro Armenteros continues to weigh his destination options.

Sanchez previously reported that Armenteros would make his team decision on Wednesday. That could still happen, though the hour is drawing late. Among the teams considered potential landing spots for "Lazarito" are the Braves, Cubs, Dodgers, Padres, and Phillies. Should he be unable to reach a decision at this early juncture, it's possible he just waits until July 2, when the next international signing period begins. Armenteros is said to be looking for a bonus in the $15-20 million range.

ESPN's Buster Olney reports that the Orioles and free agent outfielder Dexter Fowler have had an "informal conversation" about a potential contract.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal has reported that Fowler could be a follow-up target for the Orioles should they sign free agent right-hander Yovani Gallardo, so it makes sense that the two parties have at least begun laying unofficial groundwork. A deal in the neighborhood of the two-year, $20 million contract the Dodgers gave Howie Kendrick could be in play for Fowler. Olney has previously reported that MLB executives don't see the 29-year-old outfielder drawing much more than that. His free agency is tied to draft pick compensation.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Orioles are interested in free agent 1B Pedro Alvarez.

The Orioles have their fingers in seemingly every pot this week, with rumors flying that they are close to a deal with Yovani Gallardo and might then target Dexter Fowler after Gallardo. Now throw Alvarez in there just for good measure. The 29-year-old was non-tendered by the Pirates at the beginning of December after hitting .243/.318/.469 with 27 homers and 77 RBI across 437 at-bats during the 2015 campaign. He'd join the Orioles' DH and first base rotation.

Giants and 1B Brandon Belt avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year, $6.2 million contract.

MLB Network's Jon Heyman passed along the contract details. The two sides had an arbitration hearing scheduled for Wednesday, so they were able to work out a last-minute deal. Belt requested $7.5 million and was offered $5.3 million by the Giants when figures were exchanged last month, so the two sides settled for a little under the midpoint. He's under team control through 2017.

Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins said Wednesday that the club will wait until midway through spring training or perhaps later to decide on a closer.

Roberto Osuna proved himself as a 20-year-old rookie last season by posting a 2.58 ERA and 75/16 K/BB ratio over 69 2/3 innings while notching 20 saves, but his role is in question after the Blue Jays picked up Drew Storen from the Nationals over the winter. Given Storen's experience and past issues as a set-up man, he'll likely go into spring training as the early favorite. However, fantasy owners will have to wait for an official decision.
Feb 10 - 2:49 PM

Blue Jays and 3B Josh Donaldson avoided arbitration by agreeing to a two-year, $28.65 million contract.

The reigning AL MVP will make $11.65 million in 2016 and $17 million in 2017. The two sides were forced to go to an arbitration hearing last winter, which Donaldson lost, but they were able to work out a multi-year contract this time. Donaldson remains under team control through 2018. The new deal gives the Blue Jays some cost certainty, which is a nice bonus with Edwin Encarnacion and Jose Bautista due to become free agents after 2016.
Feb 10 - 12:33 PM

Tigers and OF J.D. Martinez avoided arbitration by agreeing to a two-year, $18.5 million contract.

The deal was reported on Monday and it's now official. Per Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press, Martinez will make $6.75 million in 2016 and $11.75 million in 2017. The two-year deal buys out his final two seasons of arbitration-eligibility, so he's still scheduled to hit free agency after 2017. The 28-year-old led the Tigers with 38 homers and 102 RBI last season.
Feb 10 - 10:49 AM

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Orioles are "making progress" in talks with free agent right-hander Yovani Gallardo.

The Orioles would surrender the No. 14 overall pick in this year's draft (and the corresponding bonus pool money) to sign Gallardo, which is something they have been reluctant to do until now, but his price could have dropped to the point where they are willing to get the deal done. Baltimore certainly could use another quality arm in their rotation after losing left-hander Wei-Yin Chen. Gallardo is coming off a career-low 3.42 ERA last season with the Rangers, but his strikeout rate has been in a steady decline.
