Francisco Rodriguez has secured a work visa and is expected to report to High-A Brevard County next week.

K-Rod signed a minor league deal with Milwaukee last month and has been pitching in extended spring training while awaiting his visa. He's expected to spend around 3-5 days in High-A before making his way to Triple-A Nashville. The Brewers have until mid-May to decide whether to call him up to the major league bullpen or offer him his release. The veteran reliever will make $2 million if he's added to the major league roster.

Anthony Rizzo is absent from the Cubs' lineup Friday.

Rizzo has just three hits in his last 38 at-bats, so it's probably a good time to get him a breather with a lefty (Adam Morgan) on the mound. Jason Heyward is also receiving a day off, as the Cubs have Kris Bryant at first base, Javier Baez at third base and Matt Szczur in right field.

Maikel Franco (ankle) is back in the Phillies' lineup Friday.

Franco had to be pulled from Wednesday game after spraining his right ankle, but he's ready to roll after Thursday's off day. Franco is batting third and playing third base against Jon Lester and the Cubs.

Yovani Gallardo (shoulder) will throw a simulated game on Saturday.

Gallardo was cleared to face hitters after getting through a 30-pitch bullpen session Wednesday with no issues. It's possible he'll be cleared to begin a rehab assignment after the simulated game, although that hasn't been decided yet. "We’re hoping that [simulated game Saturday] goes well, and if that goes well, we’ve got to decide whether he needs to do that one more time or he goes out [for a rehab stint]," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said.

Jonathan Villar went 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored to help the Brewers take out the Braves 6-2 on Thursday.

If he's not doing it with his legs, he's doing it with his stick, as evidenced by Thursday's solo dinger. The homer was his second of the season to give him 16 RBI, and he's got 21 runs scored through Thursday's game. More importantly, Villar has 15 steals to lead the National League, and his .295/.392/.416 line is all gravy as well.

George Springer hit a pair of solo home runs in the Astros' 4-2 win over the Orioles on Thursday.

Springer led off the Astros' half of the first inning with a homer against Orioles starter Kevin Gausman, and he connected again in the fifth, also off Gausman. The multi-homer game was his first this season, giving him 11 home runs overall. The 26-year-old is hitting .270/.364/.492 and has been serving as the team's leadoff hitter, ahead of Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa, in recent days.

Luis Valbuena hit a two-run home run in a win over the Orioles on Thursday.

The home run was his third in as many games, as Valbuena apparently likes batting against Orioles pitching. Thursday's blast came against Kevin Gausman, one of three homers Gausman gave up to Astros hitters on the night. Valbuena's power display has more than doubled his home run total since the start of the series, as the 30-year-old now has five homers and 15 RBI to go with a .220/.303/.402 line.

Red Sox manager John Farrell said there's no decision on whether Clay Buchholz will make his next start.

With Eduardo Rodriguez (knee) ready to come off the disabled list, Buchholz was likely pitching for his rotation spot Thursday against the Rockies. It didn't go well as the right-hander allowed a season-high six runs while watching his ERA balloon to 6.35. The Red Sox are famous for inventing injuries for struggling players and that might be their best option with Buchholz here. Buchholz has no confidence right now and is having a really difficult time with runners on base. We'd be surprised to see him make his next start Tuesday against Baltimore.
May 26 - 10:45 PM

Dustin Garneau hit one of three, two-run home runs on the night as the Rockies thumped the Red Sox 8-2 on Thursday.

Garneau's two-run dinger in the fifth inning followed two-run shots by Carlos Gonzalez, who hit his in the fourth, and Trevor Story, whose homer came two batters before Garneau's. The catcher also doubled and scored in the game. The home run was the first of the season for the 28-year-old, and his .270/.317/.459 line while filling in for the injured Nick Hundley could leave the Rockies' front office with a tough decision when Hundley returns.
May 26 - 10:43 PM

Danny Espinosa hit a solo home run in the seventh inning to lead the Nationals to a 2-1 win over the Cardinals on Thursday.

Espinosa's homer off Mike Leake broke a 1-1 tie and ended up being the difference. He finished 1-for-3 in the game. Despite Thursday's contribution, the 29-year-old is hitting just .201/.301/.302 in 47 games and appears to be keeping the seat warm for Trea Turner, who could be called up in a matter of weeks.
May 26 - 10:02 PM

Matt Adams left Thursday's game against the Nationals with mid-back stiffness.

He went 1-for-2 with a single before exiting in the fifth inning. Brandon Moss, who began the game in left field, has moved to first base. Randal Grichuk came into play center field with Jeremy Hazelbaker moving from center to left. Adams will be reevaluated on Friday. Consider him day-to-day.

Dodgers GM Andrew Friedman expects Julio Urias to balance time between the bullpen and the starting rotation this year.

Urias is a future top-of-the-rotation starter but the Dodgers understandably want to limit his workload in year one. "Julio is an extremely talented pitching prospect whose talent is a little bit ahead of his development," said Friedman. The Dodgers haven't decided if Urias will stick around after Friday's start against the Mets. Urias is starting in place of Alex Wood, who was scratched with forearm tightness.
