Yankees designated RHP Cody Eppley for assignment.

Eppley had some nice moments last year with the Yanks, but he struggled early on this season before being sent down. It's possible the 27-year-old could draw some interest on waivers.

Tyson Ross will miss another start after feeling continued soreness in his lower forearm while playing catch Friday.

The Padres have yet to officially rule Ross out for the season, but there's little to no chance we'll see him again. He's already easily set a career high with 195 1/3 innings. Robbie Erlin will get another start in Ross' place on Tuesday versus the Rockies and is a nice streaming option.

Carlos Beltran (elbow) might not play again this season.

Beltran indicated Saturday that he might go ahead and have surgery to remove bone spurs from his right elbow, but while he's decided to delay an operation until the offseason, it's still possible that he might not play over the final week. He'll need 12 weeks to recover once he does go under the knife. The 37-year-old has disappointed with a .233/.301/.402 batting line and 15 homers over 109 games this season.

Jason Heyward (thumb) remained out of the Braves' lineup Sunday.

He hasn't played since suffering a left thumb injury on Wednesday. Heyward remains day-to-day, but there's been no indication as to when he might return to the lineup. Emilio Bonifacio is handling right field on Sunday.

John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer writes that Joey Votto's (quad) return this season is looking "doubtful."

Votto has taken batting practice four straight days and ran the bases on Friday, but, according to Reds manager Bryan Price, he's "not pain-free." The club has little to gain in activating Votto for a handful of games. "He's not 100 percent, and he won't be at any time during the rest of this season," Price said. "So the question is, do we want to play him at less than 100 percent? He still hasn't seen any live pitching."

Jimmy Rollins (hamstring) has been ruled out through the weekend.

Rollins had been hoping to play in his hometown of Oakland, but he tested out his strained left hamstring on Saturday and evidently still isn't feeling good enough for game action. Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg was non-committal when asked if Rollins would play again this season. "We'll see," Sandberg said. "We'll see how he does and how he goes. I'm not going one way or another on it. Just watching the progress."

Mike Trout had a productive night at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a walk, a triple, a two-run home run, and three runs scored in Saturday's win against the Rangers.

Trout by himself accounted for four of the Angels' eight runs on the evening. He came to bat in the seventh inning needing a double for the cycle but struck out looking. Nevertheless, Trout bumps his slash line up to .290/.379/.568 with 35 home runs, 109 RBI, 14 stolen bases, and 112 runs scored.

Adam Jones went 2-for-4 with two home runs and four RBI on Saturday.

Jones hit a two-run home run in the third inning off of Red Sox starter Rubby De La Rosa. He added another two-run shot in the fifth. The two homers give him 27 for the year, to go with 91 RBI. Jones is slashing .285/.316/.472 this season. He's also posting a WAR of 4.8, which would be the highest of his career. Jones has been hitting just .254 in the second half of the season (as compared to .301 in the first half), but despite the summer slumps, he still has an outside shot of putting up a 30 homer, 100 RBI season.

Andrew Cashner flirted with a second consecutive shutout, but settled for allowing two runs in eight-plus innings in Saturday's win over the Giants.

Cashner brought the shutout into the ninth, but was greeted with a Hunter Pence solo home run to lead off the inning. He allowed a single to Joe Panik next before making his exit. Panik later scored against reliever Kevin Quackenbush. Overall, Cashner allowed just four hits and a walk while striking out seven. The right-hander has yet to allow more than two runs since returning from the disabled list, and now owns a 2.21 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and an 89/29 K/BB ratio. He'll face the Giants again to wrap up his season, on Thursday in San Francisco.

Lyle Overbay doubled in the ninth inning, helping set the Brewers up to take the lead and defeat the Pirates on Saturday.

Overbay finished 2-for-3 with a walk and the double, which pushed Elian Herrera to third base. Herrera later scored, breaking a scoreless tie, on a Logan Schafer sacrifice fly. The 37-year-old Overbay has mustered a .241/.339/.347 slash line on the season with four home runs and 35 RBI.

Dallas Keuchel scattered seven hits while pitching eight innings of one-run ball against the Mariners on Saturday.

Keuchel was spotted a four-run lead by the time the first inning was over, thanks to early home runs by Chris Carter and Alex Presley. He did not squander the cushion. Other than an RBI single by Robinson Cano in the third, Keuchel sported what was mostly a clean line. He allowed struck out eight and walked one while scattering seven hits. The victory bumped him up to a 12-9 record this season. Keuchel has been one of the biggest surprises in the game this season, posting a 2.93 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and a 146/48 K/BB ratio over 200 innings. This was likely his final start of 2014, but he won't sneak up on anyone next spring.
Sep 20 - 10:02 PM

Mike Minor lasted just one inning Saturday because of shoulder discomfort.

Minor missed the first month of the year because of shoulder tendinitis, and he was inconsistent for most of the year before suddenly turning it on last month. Now it seems likely that his season is done, but with the Braves collapsing, he was just about finished regardless.
