Ryan Madson (elbow) threw a lengthy bullpen session on Saturday.

It's the first time he's been on the bump since having a minor procedure to remove scar tissue from his surgically-repaired elbow. The Angels will wait to see how the elbow responds Sunday before determining the next step. "There's so much that goes into throwing a bullpen as far as not only how you feel throwing in the 'pen, [but] how you're rebounding," manager Mike Scioscia said.

Joey Votto was ejected from Wednesday's game against the Pirates for spiking his helmet.

Votto made contact with umpire Chris Conroy while arguing the ejection, which is likely to draw further punishment (perhaps even a suspension). Votto also exchanged words with Pirates starter Gerrit Cole before heading into the visitors clubhouse at PNC Park. It's rare to see such an outburst from the thoughtful 31-year-old first baseman.

Ian Kennedy held the Giants to one run over seven innings in the Padres' lopsided 9-1 win Wednesday.

Giants starter Chris Heston had no answer for the Padres' bats, but Kennedy had no problem silencing the Giants'. The right-hander allowed just six hits without walking a batter, striking out five. Kennedy has rattled off two straight wins after a bumpy return from the disabled list in late April, and he's now 2-1 with a still-unsightly 5.03 ERA. An interleague tilt with the Mariners is on tap for Tuesday.
May 6 - 7:43 PM

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports Jarrod Saltalamacchia could sign with a club as early as Thursday.

Cafardo notes the Red Sox, who have now lost Christian Vazquez and Ryan Hanigan for significant lengths of time, are not interested. Those who are include the Mariners, Orioles, Royals and Diamondbacks. We should know soon enough where his new home will be.
May 6 - 7:23 PM

Corey Dickerson (foot) is out of the Rockies' lineup for the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Diamondbacks.

Dickerson had a flare-up of his plantar fasciitis so he'll get a rest in the nightcap. It's unclear whether the recurrence will force him to miss any time beyond Wednesday. Rafael Ynoa started in left field for the Rockies in Wednesday night's game.
May 6 - 6:59 PM

Yasiel Puig (hamstring) will serve as the designated hitter for High-A Rancho Cucamonga on Thursday.

Puig still hadn't resumed running the bases as of Wednesday morning, so it will be interesting to find out how he fares on the basepaths should he reach base. Even so, it's a definite step in the right direction for the outfielder, who is on the disabled list with a left hamstring strain. There's still a chance Puig comes off the DL after his 15 days are up.
May 6 - 6:42 PM

Stephen Strasburg (shoulder) played catch Wednesday after leaving Tuesday's start with an apparent injury.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal heard Strasburg left Tuesday with a "cramp" and that a chiropractor adjusted him Wednesday. Whatever the issue, it's promising that he was feeling good enough to throw a day after exiting. The Nationals are still trying to assess the issue, and his status for his next scheduled start is still very much up in the air.
May 6 - 6:34 PM

Jake McGee (elbow) is scheduled to pitch for Triple-A Durham on Friday.

The southpaw will likely have at least two more appearances with the Rays' Triple-A affiliate before being activated. McGee hasn't thrown a pitch for the Rays yet this season after offseason elbow surgery. Still, the expectation is that he'll eventually regain the closer job once healthy.
May 6 - 6:23 PM

Sean Doolittle (shoulder) will face live hitters Friday.

That's three days earlier than previously scheduled, a good sign for the lefty's recovery from a rotator cuff injury. Doolittle should be back sometime in May, barring any setbacks.
May 6 - 6:13 PM

Jose Iglesias (groin) is back in the Tigers' starting lineup on Wednesday night versus the White Sox.

Iglesias was unavailable Tuesday after leaving Sunday's game with tightness in his left groin. The dynamic young shortstop is batting ninth in his return to action Wednesday against White Sox ace Chris Sale.
May 6 - 5:46 PM

J.J. Hardy (shoulder) could join the Orioles on Thursday.

Hardy has been out all season with a left shoulder strain. He began a minor league rehab assignment Monday at Double-A Bowie and is 3-for-8 through two games. The 32-year-old shortstop had a disappointing offensive season in 2014, but he's still a pretty valuable fantasy commodity. Hardy tallied 25 homers and 76 RBI in 2013.
May 6 - 5:38 PM

Carlos Rodon will start Saturday against the Reds.

Jeff Samardzija has dropped the appeal of his five-game suspension, opening a spot temporarily for the 22-year-old Rondon. He has registered a 2.84 ERA in 6 1/3 innings of relief so far for Chicago, but his control hasn't been very good. It might be best to keep Rondon stashed in fantasy leagues until he has a permanent place in the White Sox rotation. Cincinnati isn't the easiest opponent for a stream.
