The Diamondbacks have shifted Adam Eaton's (elbow) rehab assignment from Triple-A Reno to High-A Visalia.

Eaton is currently being limited to DH duties and the pitchers at Triple-A Reno will hit for the next week, so he had to find a new team to rehab with. Eaton is still a week or so away from manning center field. He's expected to rejoin the D'Backs near the end of May.

Pedro Alvarez delivered a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the ninth inning, helping the Pirates eke out a win against the Padres on Monday.

In a 1-1 game, Alvarez stepped to the plate with runners on second and third and two outs in the bottom of the ninth against Brandon Maurer. He hit a single to right-center to plate the winning run, finishing 1-for-4. Alvarez has been solid this season, hitting almost exclusively against right-handed pitching. He owns a .242/.313/.450 triple-slash line with 12 home runs and 37 RBI.

Yunel Escobar had to exit Monday's game versus the Reds with left hamstring tightness.

Escobar didn't seem to injure the hamstring on one particular play, but he was spotted stretching multiple times as the ailment appeared to creep up on him. It's unclear at this point how much time he might miss.

Denard Span left Monday's game against the Reds with back spasms.

Span is probably looking forward to the All-Star break in order to have some rest, as he's dealt with the back issue off and on for a month now. Consider him day-to-day.

Eugenio Suarez hit a solo home run in the eighth inning to break a tie and ultimately send the Reds to a win over the Nationals on Monday.

Suarez, in a 3-for-4 effort, took reliever Casey Janssen out to left field to break a 2-2 tie in the top of the eighth inning. He has done a commendable job filling in for Zack Cozart at shortstop, batting .329/.372/.493 with three home runs, 13 RBI, and three stolen bases since June 11.

Chris Sale went all nine innings and limited the Blue Jays to two runs to earn the win on Monday.

Sale allowed two solo home runs: one to Chris Colabello in the third inning and one to Josh Donaldson in the sixth. That was it for run-scoring. Fresh off of his nomination to the 2015 All-Star roster for the American League, Sale gave up six hits overall, walked none, and struck out six. The lefty's streak of eight consecutive starts with double-digit strikeouts has come to an end. Now with a 2.80 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, and 147/22 K/BB ratio over 112 1/3 innings, Sale will match up against the Cubs at Wrigley Field in his next start.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Monday that he thinks Hunter Pence (wrist) could return before the All-Star break.

Pence took batting practice on Sunday and the club was very happy with how it went. He'll be examined by a doctor on Monday before the next step is determined. Pence has missed nearly a month of action with tendinitis in his left wrist but has evidently made rapid progress in recent days.
Jul 6 - 8:17 PM

Ricky Nolasco will undergo surgery on his right ankle on Monday.

Nolasco first hurt his ankle back in late May and attempts to rehab it proved unsuccessful. There's no timetable for his return, but you'd have to think there's a good chance his season is over. If that's the case, Nolasco will have posted a 5.40 ERA over just 34 starts in his first two seasons with the Twins after signing a four-year, $49 million contract.

Monday's game between the Rays and Royals was postponed due to rain.

They'll play a split doubleheader on Tuesday. Edinson Volquez, who had been scheduled for Monday, will be pushed back a day to start during the double-dip. Alex Colome will be skipped by the Rays.
Jul 6 - 7:22 PM

Adrian Gonzalez (hand) is back in the Dodgers' lineup Monday.

Gonzalez had to exit Sunday's game after being hit on the right hand by a pitch, but he escaped with merely a bruise. The first baseman sports a .291/.366/.518 batting line with 15 homers and 50 RBI this season.
Jul 6 - 6:19 PM

Jacoby Ellsbury (knee) will be activated from the disabled list on Wednesday.

Ellsbury missed a few games during his rehab assignment last week due to fatigue in his legs, but he went through simulated game activities on Monday and the Yankees were apparently happy with what they saw. The outfielder has been on the shelf since mid-May with a right knee sprain.
Jul 6 - 6:14 PM

Khris Davis (knee) is slated to return from the disabled list on Tuesday.

Davis is ready to return now, but he played in five rehab games in five days through Sunday so the Brewers wanted to give him a day of rest before activating him. The outfielder missed five and a half weeks of action with a torn meniscus in his right knee.
