Phillies GM Ruben Amaro shot down media reports on Saturday that his team had signed veteran right-hander Carlos Zambrano, but added that they could consider it.

Zambrano failed to attract interest on the open market this winter and recently signed with the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League in an effort to draw the attention of MLB clubs. The Phillies could use some depth in their rotation, but the 31-year-old will have to pitch well in indy ball before they give him a try.

Sunday's game between the Giants and Rockies has been postponed due to rain.

No makeup date has been announced yet. Scheduled starters Tim Lincecum and Tyler Matzek will presumably be pushed back a day.

Hyun-Jin Ryu (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Sunday.

It's the first time he's thrown off the bump since his left shoulder soreness cropped up in mid-March. The Dodgers have understandably proceeded cautiously with the southpaw, but Ryu has progressed well in recent weeks. He's still a long ways away from a return, however.
Apr 26 - 1:35 PM

Yasiel Puig (hamstring) is not in the Dodgers' lineup Sunday.

It's the second straight game he's missed after aggravating his left hamstring on Friday and sixth contest he's missed overall. The Dodgers could wind up placing Puig on the disabled list, although they've yet to announce such a move. Andre Ethier is in right field Sunday. The club is also going with Alex Guerrero at third base and Justin Turner at second.
Apr 26 - 1:11 PM

Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak confirmed in an interview on KMOX 1120 AM on Sunday that Adam Wainwright (Achilles) is likely done for the season.

"I would imagine that with this injury he will not pitch again this season, but we want to wait for the reports Monday," the GM said. It's confirmation of an earlier report from FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal as well as what others had speculated. Losing Wainwright is obviously a major hit to the Cards as they seek their third straight division title and fifth straight playoff appearance.
Apr 26 - 12:46 PM

Greg Holland (pectoral) will play catch on Sunday.

It will be the first time he's thrown since being diagnosed with a Grade 1 right pectoral strain. Holland is eligible to be activated from the disabled list in a week, though it's possible he'll need a little more time than that. Wade Davis will continue to serve as the Royals' closer in the meantime.
Apr 26 - 11:53 AM

Max Scherzer (thumb) did not throw a scheduled bullpen session on Sunday.

That's after the 'pen session was pushed back a day from Saturday. Scherzer, who threw off flat ground Sunday instead, is in jeopardy of missing his next scheduled start on Tuesday due to a sore right thumb, although the righty said the thumb is improving and he's not ruling himself out yet. "I can't say that," Scherzer said when asked if he'll start Tuesday. "Because I'm literally day-to-day." Tanner Roark would be the obvious candidate for a spot start in Scherzer's place.
Apr 26 - 11:20 AM

Yadier Molina (knee) remained out of the Cardinals' lineup Sunday.

Molina took a foul tip off his right knee during Friday's game and remains sore. He's considered day-to-day. Tony Cruz is getting another start behind the plate Sunday, while Cody Stanley has been recalled to provide depth. The Cards are also giving Matt Holliday and Jon Jay a rest Sunday, with Mark Reynolds handling left field and Peter Bourjos center.
Apr 26 - 11:10 AM

Jose Bautista (shoulder) is hoping to return to the lineup during the series versus the Red Sox early this week.

Bautista hasn't played since Tuesday due to a sore right shoulder, although he reported continued improvement on Sunday. The club will ease the outfielder back into things in the designated hitter spot initially before eventually returning him to the field. Michael Saunders is in right field Sunday.
Apr 26 - 10:58 AM

Desmond Jennings (knee) is not in the Rays' lineup Sunday.

Jennings tweaked his left knee during Saturday's game. It doesn't appear to be a major concern at this point, but it's also unclear when he might be ready to return to the lineup. The Rays are going with Brandon Guyer in left field, Kevin Kiermaier in center and Steve Souza in right on Sunday.
Apr 26 - 10:13 AM

Michael Bourn is batting ninth in Sunday's game versus the Tigers.

It's the first time not only this season but since June of 2011 that he's batted anywhere other than leadoff. Still, Bourn is hitting an ugly .180/.254/.213 in the early going, so the move doesn't come as a shocker. Jason Kipnis is in the leadoff spot Sunday, while Mike Aviles is getting a start at shortstop over Jose Ramirez.
Apr 26 - 9:52 AM

Initial tests for possible ligament damage in Brandon McCarthy's right elbow came back negative.

It doesn't mean he definitely doesn't have a ligament issues -- we'll know for sure after his MRI -- but it's certainly a good sign. The hope is that McCarthy is "only" dealing with tendinitis. He's looking at a stint on the disabled list either way, but surgery won't be required if it's a tendinitis issue. McCarthy admitted that he's been dealing with tightness in his elbow since his last start but it finally became too much on Saturday.
