Justin Masterson hurled a brilliant four-hit shutout as the Indians won the first half of Monday's traditional doubleheader against the Yankees by a score of 1-0.

Masterson issued three walks but countered that with nine strikeouts. The victory pushed him to 6-2 on the season, and he's sporting a strong 3.14 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 60/24 K/BB ratio in 63 innings. The right-hander is an obvious must-start next time out against Seattle.

Corey Seager is not in the Dodgers' lineup Thursday against the Mets.

The Dodgers are going with a mostly right-handed lineup (Cody Bellinger is the one exception) against Mets lefty Steven Matz. Chris Taylor will fill in at shortstop and bat second for the Dodgers. Seager enjoyed his second career three-homer game on Tuesday night.

Jose Quintana pitched a sharp game in Thursday's 9-0 win over the Twins, firing off 6 2/3 innings of scoreless ball.

Quintana scattered five hits while striking out nine. He did not walk a batter over his strong 6 2/3 innings of work. The 28-year-old southpaw threw 119 pitches (69 strikes) in the outing. After a slow start to the season, Quintana has limited the opposition to two or fewer runs in three of his last four starts, lowering his ERA from 5.30 to 4.69 in that space. A home start against the Yankees shows next on his schedule.

Danny Duffy (oblique) will begin a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Omaha on Saturday.

Duffy is scheduled to throw 40-45 pitches. He'll need a few starts to get his pitch count back up after missing the last few weeks with a strained oblique. If all goes according to plan, Kansas City's ace should be back around the All-Star break.

Mets manager Terry Collins said the team will consider moving Asdrubal Cabrera (thumb) to second base when he returns from the disabled list.

Cabrera is expected to return on Friday. He's already made 11 errors this year and Collins would prefer to keep Jose Reyes at shortstop. T.J. Rivera has been filling in at second base for Neil Walker, who is out with a torn hamstring. Cabrera has started 197 games at second base in his career, though he hasn't played there since 2014.

George Springer (hand) hopes to be in the lineup Friday against the Mariners.

Springer lobbied to stay in Thursday's game after taking a pitch off his left hand but was overruled by manager A.J. Hinch. His X-rays came back negative and the Astros are hoping he'll be available for Friday night's series opener. The Astros appear to have dodged a major bullet here.

Angels GM Billy Eppler confirmed that Matt Shoemaker is still dealing with "symptoms" related to a strained forearm.

Shoemaker was tentatively scheduled to return Sunday against the Red Sox but instead was sent back to Los Angeles for further evaluation. A recent MRI cleared Shoemaker of any structural damage, though obviously there's still something bothering him. Parker Bridwell has been starting in his place.

Josh Donaldson (knee) is hoping to return Friday against the Royals.

Donaldson was a late scratch Thursday against Texas after hitting his knee on the concrete while stretching in pregame warmups. Russell Martin ended up starting at third base with Kendrys Morales DHing. Donaldson has cooled off a bit but is still slashing .286/.389/.554 with eight homers in 112 at-bats this season.
Jun 22 - 7:01 PM

Paul Goldschmidt clobbered his 18th homer while providing four RBI Thursday in the Diamondbacks’ win over the Rockies.

Goldschmidt was ruthless on Thursday, first giving Arizona the lead with an RBI single in the third inning before launching a three-run jack off Antonio Senzatela in the following frame. Goldschmidt has now overtaken teammate Jake Lamb for the major league lead with 64 RBI and ranks second behind Aaron Judge in OPS. He’s hit .427 over 68 at-bats this month.
Jun 22 - 6:49 PM

Zack Godley allowed four hits and three runs over seven dominant innings Thursday in the Diamondbacks’ win over the Rockies.

Godly would be a good way to describe the right-hander’s performance. He recorded a season-high eight strikeouts while yielding only one free pass in his first career start at Coors Field. Godley got off to a rocky start (no pun intended) by allowing hits to two of Colorado's first three batters, but he was lights out after that. The 27-year-old finished his outing by retiring 19 of the last 22 hitters he faced (including 13 straight at one point) and even chipped in with an RBI single in the eighth inning. Godley is now undefeated with a 2.59 ERA over his last five starts.
Jun 22 - 6:46 PM

Matt Shoemaker (forearm) will head back to Los Angeles to be reevaluated.

Shoemaker was hoping to return to the rotation Sunday against Boston, but obviously that's not happening. He must have overdone it by playing catch on Wednesday. Parker Bridwell will continue to start in his place.
Jun 22 - 5:56 PM

George Springer has been diagnosed with a left hand contusion.

His X-rays came back negative. Springer left Thursday's game after being struck by a 92 mph sinker from A's starter Jesse Hahn. The Astros are calling him day-to-day. Springer suffered a similar injury two years ago when he was hit by then-Royals starter Edinson Volquez. Jake Marisnick replaced Springer in center field on Thursday and should start there during his absence.
