Mets transferred RHP Jenrry Mejia from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move clears a spot for Rick Ankiel on the 40-man roster. Mejia has been on the disabled list all season with elbow inflammation and is just beginning a rehab assignment, so it won't have an impact on his timeline.

Dustin Pedroia will continue to hit leadoff for the Red Sox.

Mookie Betts started last season as Boston's leadoff hitter but was eventually moved down in the order so the Red Sox could better utilize his power. Pedroia made a smooth transition to the leadoff spot, slashing .362/.394/.457 over 199 at-bats. Second base is fairly deep this season but the 33-year-old remains an excellent fantasy option in all formats.

Bryce Harper went 2-for-2 with a home run against the Mets on Saturday.

The star right-fielder will try to bounce back from an injury-plagued 2016 season in which he hit just 24 home runs with a .243 batting average. He had a season for the ages in 2015 -- batting .330/.460/.649 with 42 home runs, 118 runs and 99 RBI.
Feb 25 - 4:57 PM

Gerrit Cole has been announced as the Pirates' Opening Day starter.

He'll toe the rubber against the Red Sox at Fenway Park on April 3. This marks Cole's first career Opening Day start. Cole was an absolute stud in 2015 before injuries caused him to unravel last season. He's a strong bounce-back candidate.
Feb 25 - 4:30 PM

Michael Bourn is expected to miss the next four weeks due to a broken ring finger on his right hand.

Bourn just re-signed with the O's this week and was expected to compete for a reserve outfielder role. He should still have enough time to get ready for the regular season, but this could impact his chances to crack the Opening Day roster.
Feb 25 - 12:46 PM

Lucas Duda is not in the Mets starting lineup on Saturday due to continued back stiffness.

Duda missed a large portion of the 2016 due to back stiffness and it's a discouraging development that he's continuing to deal with the issue after having an entire offseason to rest and rehab. The 31-year-old hit just .229/.302/.412 with seven homers and 23 RBI in 153 at-bats in 2016. The more time that he misses, the greater the opportunity for Michael Conforto to seize at-bats, either at first base or in right field with Jay Bruce manning first.
Feb 25 - 10:48 AM

J.D. Martinez was scratched from the Tigers' starting lineup on Saturday due to tightness in his pectoral muscle.

It doesn't sound as though it's anything serious, but at this point in the spring there's no reason to take any chances. Mikie Mahtook will slide into the starting lineup in his place, with Juan Perez shifting over to right field.
Feb 25 - 9:15 AM

Lewis Brinson started his spring off with a bang, blasting a pair of home runs as the Brewers clobbered University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee 11-0 in exhibition play on Friday.

Brinson started the game with a solo home run then added on a three-run bomb in the fourth inning. Considered the club's center fielder of the future, the 22-year-old should debut with the Brewers at some point in 2017. His combination of power and speed makes him an interesting flyer in the final rounds of NL-only and deeper mixed league drafts.
Feb 24 - 7:10 PM

Cubs signed RHP Pedro Strop to a one-year, $5.85 million contract extension with a $6.25 million club option for 2019.

The two sides avoided arbitration earlier this month with a one-year, $5.5 million contract, and they've now tacked on one and potentially two more years. Strop had been slated to hit free agency next winter. The 31-year-old has been excellent since arriving in Chicago at the 2013 trade deadline, posting a 2.68 ERA with 254 strikeouts across 211 1/3 relief innings. He'll again be a setup man for the Cubs in 2017.

Adrian Beltre (calf) will do some jogging on Friday.

It's the first time he's really tested out his left calf since he strained it last week. Beltre's injury could keep him from playing for his native Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic, but he should be fine come Opening Day as long as he doesn't have a setback. He's averaged 152 games played over the last five seasons, which is quite a feat especially since he'll turn 38 in April.
Feb 24 - 10:51 AM

Marcell Ozuna is nursing some tightness in his shoulder.

Ozuna was already dealing with the tightness when he reported to camp, but the Marlins are saying that it's mild. He was spotted making throws from the outfield during drills Friday. Still, he'll be eased into game action, as the club is certainly in no rush to push him at this point. Ozuna batted .266/.321/.452 with 23 homers for the Marlins last season.
Feb 24 - 10:27 AM

Nationals signed C Matt Wieters to a two-year, $21 million contract.

The deal was first reported on Tuesday and has now become official. Wieters' contract includes an opt-out after the first year, and $5 million of the salary is deferred. He'll assume everyday catching duties for the Nationals, which will put Derek Norris on the trade market.
