ESPN's Pedro Gomez reports that Jonathan Sanchez is "zeroing in" on a deal with the Dodgers.

Gomez says Sanchez "may need a few starts in the minors" before he's called up. With Zack Greinke returning Wednesday and Ted Lilly not far behind, there wouldn't appear to be a spot available in the Dodgers' rotation. He might just be stashed at Triple-A as insurance. The southpaw still needs to serve a six-game suspension for throwing at Cardinals' first baseman Allen Craig last month.

Marlins optioned OF Marcell Ozuna to Triple-A New Orleans.

It's a very curious move for the Marlins, who are struggling as a team on offense, to demote their starting center fielder to Triple-A. While he has struggled of late, the 24-year-old is still hitting a respectable .249/.301/.337 on the season with four homers and 26 RBI in 79 games.

Kyle Hendricks was on his game in Sunday's 2-0 win over the Marlins, tossing 7 1/3 innings of shutout baseball.

Hendricks and Marlins starter Mat Latos were locked into an old school pitcher's duel, with both pitchers lasting through seven innings. It was Hendricks who persevered for the victory, improving to 4-4 on the year. He'll carry a 3.82 ERA and 1.15 WHIP into his next start, a home showdown with the rival White Sox.

Mat Latos pitched well in Sunday's tough 2-0 loss to the Cubs, yielding one run on one hit over seven innings.

Latos has pitched erratically this season, but he worked more as Mr. Hyde than Dr. Jekyll against the Cubs on Sunday, striking out seven against two walks, with the only run to score against him coming when he threw a wild pitch with a runner on third in the first inning. That would be all that the Cubs needed to stick Latos with the hard-luck 2-0 defeat. At the end of June, Fox Sports' Jon Morosi reported that multiple teams had inquired about some of the Marlin starters, including Latos. It's possible we'll see him in a different uniform in the coming weeks, though that's just informed speculation at this point. Latos' 4.90 ERA and 1.31 WHIP are disappointing, but given that he's never posted an ERA higher than 3.50 in any full season in his career, a change of scenery could do him wonders.
Jul 5 - 5:16 PM

Lance Lynn turned in a superb game in Sunday's 3-1 win over the Padres, fanning eight and allowing just one run over seven innings.

The Padres managed just three hits off of Lynn, all singles. A Matt Kemp RBI single in the third inning was the only smudge on his line. With a 2.53 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 97/30 K/BB ratio over 92 1/3 innings, Lynn's numbers are among the best in the NL. He'll try to keep things moving in the right direction when he faces the Pirates in a road start next time he toes the rubber.
Jul 5 - 4:59 PM

Eric Hosmer ended Sunday's game against the Twins by hitting a walk-off double to score Lorenzo Cain.

Cain reached on a walk to start the ninth. After a pitching change, Hosmer delivered a double against Twins reliever Aaron Thompson to bring his teammate home and end the festivities. He also walked once to finish 1-for-3. Hosmer recently missed three games with a sprain of the left ring finger, but the injury was not of the major variety and he should be fine moving forward. The 25-year-old first baseman is slashing .287/.354/.437 with eight homers and 41 RBI this season.
Jul 5 - 4:53 PM

Cesar Hernandez went 3-for-4 with a walk and two stolen bases as the Phillies won in 10 innings against the Braves on Sunday.

Hernandez is on a 10-game hitting streak now, with six of those games featuring multiple hits. He singled in the 10th inning to help the Phillies break a scoreless tie. The pair of stolen bases brings him up to 11 in 14 attempts on the season. There's no way his .299/.385/.385 line is sustainable as he has a .556 BABIP since June 22, but he'll get playing time and stolen base opportunities while he's hot so he has fantasy utility for the time being.
Jul 5 - 4:47 PM

Ervin Santana was almost untouchable in Sunday's no-decision against the Royals, striking out eight and allowing just two runs on three hits over eight innings in the team's 3-2 loss.

Given that Santana had been sitting on the restricted list for his use of performance-enhancing drugs over the last 80 games, few could have expected him to come roaring out in mid-season form. That he did, though, that he did. After eight innings, Santana had thrown just 93 pitches. He posted sub-4.00 ERAs in each of his last two seasons and mixed league formats would do well to consider him as a pickup if he's floating out there.
Jul 5 - 4:39 PM

Jose Bautista walked twice and homered in five plate appearances on Sunday as the Blue Jays defeated the Tigers.

Bautista ripped a two-run home run to left field as part of a six-run fifth inning against Justin Verlander. The pair of walks increases his league lead to 65 and puts him in a tie with Paul Goldschmidt for the major league lead. Bautista owns a menacing .246/.397/.520 batting line with 17 home runs and 57 RBI on the year.
Jul 5 - 4:28 PM

Alex Rodriguez clubbed the 670th home run of his career but the Yankees dropped Sunday's contest to the Rays.

Rodriguez finished 1-for-3 with a walk. His home run came with the bases empty in the sixth inning, serving as the Yankees' only run of the afternoon and the lone blemish on Erasmo Ramirez's line. Rodriguez hadn't registered an extra-base hit since his last home run on June 23, a span of nine games. He's currently batting .284/.390/.513 with 16 home runs and 47 RBI, quite a nice bounce-back season after missing all of 2014.
Jul 5 - 4:11 PM

Adam Lind went 2-for-4 with an RBI single and a two-run home run as the Brewers extended their winning streak to eight games on Sunday versus the Reds.

Lind has knocked in a run in each of his last nine ballgames, homering four times with five multi-hit games in that span of time. On Sunday, he gave the Brewers some insurance with an RBI single in the fifth inning, then homered in the seventh to put the game out of reach for the Reds. Lind is batting a productive .298/.373/.518 with 14 home runs and 51 RBI on the year.
Jul 5 - 3:58 PM

Starling Marte exited Sunday's game against the Indians with discomfort in his left side.

The Pirates don't want to provide a definitive diagnosis until Marte is re-evaluated on Monday. The fear, obviously, is that he's suffered a strained oblique, which would surely require a trip to the disabled list. More will be known about Marte on Monday.
