CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Padres don't intend to trade Chase Headley.

Headley has remained firm in his stance that he doesn't want to discuss a contract extension during the season, but that hasn't caused the Padres to panic. The 28-year-old third baseman won't become a free agent until after the 2014 season, so there is still plenty of time for the two sides to work out an agreement. And if they can't, the Padres can always explore the possibility down the road.

Josh Donaldson is starting at shortstop Sunday for the Blue Jays.

It's the first time in his career that he's made a start at the position, although it's the third time he's played there this season. We can't count on Donaldson gaining fantasy eligibility there, but it'll be something worth tracking. Jose Bautista is starting at third base and Ezequiel Carrera is in right field.

Mariners manager Scott Servais said Sunday that it's doubtful he'll start Nelson Cruz in right field for any of the club's three games in Atlanta this week.

Cruz has been lobbying to play, but it appears that he'll be limited to pinch-hitting duty for a few days. The slugger has played only four games in the outfield this season.

Miguel Sano (shin) is not in the Twins' lineup Sunday.

Sano departed Saturday's game with left shin soreness. He's considered day-to-day. Ehire Adrianza is covering third base. Joe Mauer is getting a day off Sunday, as Mitch Garver is at first base.
Aug 20 - 11:37 AM

Chris Davis (illness) is back in the Orioles' lineup Sunday.

Davis missed the last two games with an illness, but he's feeling well enough to give it a go Sunday. He's at first base and batting seventh against Parker Bridwell and the Angels.

Drew Pomeranz (back) is expected to make his next scheduled start on Wednesday in Cleveland.

Pomeranz was lifted from his start last Friday due to back spasms, but he's responded well to treatment the last few days. He'll throw a bullpen session Monday before officially being cleared for Wednesday if all goes well.

Cameron Maybin (knee) remained out of the Angels' lineup Sunday.

He hasn't played since Wednesday due to nagging right knee soreness. It's the same knee that sent Maybin to the disabled list and he might have to head back there if he doesn't improve in a hurry. Ben Revere will get another start in left field and in the leadoff spot.
Aug 20 - 11:18 AM

Clayton Kershaw (back) is on track to begin a rehab assignment next weekend with either Double-A Tulsa or Triple-A Oklahoma City.

That's assuming he gets through a simulated game -- which will take place Monday -- with no issues. Kershaw tossed a simulated game last Wednesday with no problems. It's unclear at this point how many rehab starts the left-hander will require. Kershaw has been out for the last four weeks with a lower back strain.

Brewers activated RHP Chase Anderson from the 10-day disabled list.

Anderson will rejoin the Brewers' rotation on Sunday in Colorado. It's obviously not an ideal spot for a return, and Anderson will get another tough matchup later this week in Los Angeles against the Dodgers. However, while it might be a good idea to keep the righty benched initially, Anderson boasts a 2.89 ERA on the season and needs to be scooped up in any leagues where he was dropped.
Aug 20 - 10:52 AM

Cody Bellinger (ankle) is not in the Dodgers' lineup Sunday.

Bellinger suffered a mild right ankle sprain Saturday and manager Dave Roberts said Sunday that he could hold the rookie out of action for 2-3 days to be safe. Adrian Gonzalez will handle first base and Chase Utley is serving as the designated hitter in Detroit. The Dodgers are also resting Chris Taylor and Yasmani Grandal, as they have Enrique Hernandez in center field and Austin Barnes at catcher.
Aug 20 - 10:37 AM

Mariners released INF Danny Espinosa.

The M's signed Espinosa last month after he was cut loose by the Angels, but he played very little the last few weeks and continued to be a zero with the bat. Espinosa can still pick it with the glove but sports an embarrassing .164/.237/.279 batting line this season.
Aug 20 - 10:23 AM

Alex Cobb (toe) will rejoin the Rays' rotation on Thursday versus the Blue Jays.

He'll slide into the rotation spot vacated by Jacob Faria (abdomen). Cobb has been on the shelf for the last couple weeks with turf toe in his right big toe, but he's been throwing the last few days with no issues.
