Paul Goldschmidt swatted a pair of two-run homers on Friday, powering the Diamondbacks to a 9-2 victory over the Marlins on Friday.

Goldschmidt finished the outstanding evening 4-for-5 with four runs scored and four RBI. He opened the scoring in the first inning with his first two-run blast off Kevin Slowey, then repeated the feat on the 13th pitch of his next at-bat in the third inning, which included fouling off seven two-strike offerings. He’s been an absolute monster thus far, hitting .338/.421/.656 with 12 homers, 35 RBI and four stolen bases.

Andrew Heaney (elbow) will undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery on Friday.

The operation will be performed by Los Angeles-based surgeon Dr. Neal ElAttrache. Heaney received a stem cell injection two months ago in hopes of avoiding Tommy John surgery but it didn't make much of a difference. It's possible Heaney could return late next season but spring training of 2018 might be a more realistic timetable.

According to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports, Jay Bruce would "very likely" waive his no-trade clause to join the Indians.

It seems inevitable at this point that Bruce will be dealt and Cleveland might be his best landing spot. The Indians are beginning to run away with the AL Central and they have a need at outfield with Michael Brantley still recovering from biceps and shoulder injuries. Bruce has improved his stock by hitting .290 this month with seven jacks and 26 RBI. The 29-year-old has a club option for next season.

Billy Hamilton (concussion) is back in the Reds' lineup Thursday against the Nationals.

This comes as quite a surprise after Hamilton took a ball to the face in center field Wednesday against the Cubs. He was placed in the league's concussion protocol but must have passed all his tests. He'll bat seventh Thursday against Nats left-hander Gio Gonzalez. Despite missing 14 games this year, Hamilton still ranks third in the NL with 19 steals.

Clayton Kershaw has been diagnosed with mild disc herniation in his lower back.

The Dodgers say he will not require surgery, though the team has yet to announce a timetable for his return. Los Angeles moved quickly to find his replacement, acquiring Bud Norris in a trade with Atlanta on Thursday. With Kershaw out of commission, Jake Arrieta could be in the driver's seat to start the All-Star Game in San Diego in a couple of weeks.

Jason Heyward has been dealing with muscle tightness in his left side for a few days.

Heyward suffered the injury making a throw from right field. He's healthy enough to play but manager Joe Maddon decided to play it safe by giving him another day off Thursday against Mets left-hander Steven Matz. Heyward should be back in the lineup on Friday.
Jun 30 - 5:01 PM

Nationals manager Dusty Baker indicated Thursday that Stephen Strasburg (back) is unlikely to rejoin the rotation on Sunday against the Reds.

Baker didn't completely rule it out but said he's "more inclined not to rush him." Lucas Giolito pitched well in a rain-shortened major league debut, so the Nats can afford to give Strasburg a little more time. It does appear that he'll be back fairly soon, though.
Jun 30 - 3:55 PM

Marlins acquired RHP Fernando Rodney from the Padres in exchange for RHP Chris Paddack.

Rodney has allowed only one earned run over 28 2/3 innings while sporting a 33/12 K/BB ratio out of the bullpen this season. With closer A.J. Ramos having yet to blow a save this season, Rodney presumably will slide into a setup role. Ryan Buchter is expected to be first in line for saves now in San Diego.
Jun 30 - 3:46 PM

Curtis Granderson (calf) remained out of the Mets' lineup Thursday.

Granderson was able to pinch-hit Wednesday but apparently isn't ready to return to the lineup just yet. Brandon Nimmo is in right field and in the leadoff spot and Kelly Johnson is in left.
Jun 30 - 3:39 PM

Dodgers acquired RHP Bud Norris, OF Dian Toscano, a player to be named later and cash considerations from the Braves in exchange for LHP Philip Pfeifer and RHP Caleb Dirks.

Norris will occupy a spot in the Dodgers' rotation while Clayton Kershaw (back) is on the shelf and is slated to make his debut for the club on Friday against the Rockies. The Dodgers are getting a hot pitcher, as the righty holds a 2.15 ERA and 29/8 K/BB ratio over his last 29 1/3 innings.
Jun 30 - 3:20 PM

Bryce Harper is not in the Nationals' lineup Thursday.

It's a rare day off for the slugger. Ben Revere is also getting a breather, as the Nats are going with Michael Taylor in center field and Chris Heisey in right.
Jun 30 - 3:08 PM

Corey Dickerson (thumb) is back in the Rays' lineup Thursday.

Dickerson missed four games with a sore thumb. He's in left field and hitting sixth against Jordan Zimmermann and the Tigers.
