Chris Davis went 4-for-4 with his 14th home run Wednesday, and the Orioles beat the Yankees 6-3.

Davis continues to tear the cover off the baseball, now hitting .329/.420/.690 through 45 games this season. He is tied with Justin Upton for the league lead in home runs, and he trails only Miguel Cabrera in RBI. Davis is showing that his breakout 2012 was legit.

Justin Turner (thumb) remains out of the Dodgers' starting lineup on Saturday.

Turner suffered a right thumb contusion Thursday when he was hit by a pitch. X-rays turned up negative and he is still considered day-to-day. Logan Forsythe will start at third base and bat fifth Saturday versus Giants left-hander Madison Bumgarner.

Jose Martinez has been diagnosed with a left thumb sprain.

The good news is X-rays and an MRI exam revealed no significant damage, but the bad news is there is just one week remaining in the regular season and Martinez might not see much more action -- if any at all. The 29-year-old first baseman and corner outfielder has impressed to a .309/.376/.516 slash line in 2017.

Ryan Zimmerman won't play this weekend due to general soreness.

It's nothing major, but the NL East-champion Nationals want to be sure the veteran first baseman is rested and ready for the playoffs. Adam Lind is starting at first base and batting fifth Saturday versus Mets right-hander Noah Syndergaard. Zimmerman will be back in there Monday against the Phillies.
Sep 23 - 5:20 PM

Bryce Harper (knee) made it through another simulated game Saturday without issue.

MASN's Mark Zuckerman says Harper "sounds ready" to return to the active roster, but the Nationals will wait until Sunday to decide on the best course of action. It appears the 24-year-old superstar will be able to fit in some real-game at-bats before the end of the regular season, though we probably wouldn't expect a whole lot of fantasy-relevant production. The primary goal here is to get Harper as prepared as possible for postseason play.

Charlie Morton let in just one run in seven innings to earn a 6-2 win over the Angels on Saturday.

He didn't have much trouble handling the Angels' lineup today despite not racking up strikeouts in bunches like he usually does. The only run he allowed came on a Justin Upton solo home run in his final inning of work. He took a one-hitter into the sixth inning and finished his stint having allowed just four hits on the day. He struck out five and walked one in the gem outing. He improves to 13-7 with a 3.63 ERA and 1.21 WHIP through 24 starts. He has amassed 159 strikeouts in 141 1/3 innings.

Travis Shaw blasted a walk-off two-run homer in the bottom of the 10th inning on Saturday, powering the Brewers to a 4-3 victory over the Cubs.

The Brewers have been plagued by demoralizing losses over the past week, so it was nice to see the tide turn in their favor on Saturday. They first rallied from a run down in the ninth inning, when Orlando Arcia's solo blast handed Wade Davis his first blown save of the season. After the Cubs scored in the top half of the 10th, Davis was sent back out to finish the job, but the Brewers had other plans. After Ryan Braun's one-out double, Shaw connected on a 1-0 pitch, driving the game-winner out to left center. With his 2-for-4 day, he's hitting .276/.351/.526 with 31 homers and 99 RBI on the year.
Sep 23 - 4:31 PM

Justin Upton cracked a pair of solo home runs during a loss to the Astros on Saturday.

His two bombs accounted for the only runs his team would score on the afternoon as their wild card hopes took a punch to the nose. Upton went yard off starter Charlie Morton in the seventh inning and again off reliever Will Harris in the ninth. The 30-year-old outfielder is having the best season of his career with new personal highs in home runs and RBI. He has a .279 batting average with 34 homers, 106 RBI, 97 runs and 11 stolen bases in 145 games.
Sep 23 - 4:26 PM

Jose Martinez (thumb) is out of the Cardinals' starting lineup Saturday at Pittsburgh.

Martinez injured his left thumb on Friday night and flew back to St. Louis on Saturday for an examination by the Cardinals' medical staff. There should be an update at some point soon. Matt Carpenter will play first base on Saturday with Jedd Gyorko at third.

Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports reports that the Braves have agreed to a one-year, $3.5 million contract extension with Kurt Suzuki.

Mark Bowman of MLB.com had first reported that the two sides were close on an agreement. The 33-year-old backstop has had one of the finest seasons of his career this year, slashing .271/.343/.525 with a career-best 18 homers and 47 RBI in just 287 plate appearances. He had made it clear to the club that he wanted to return in the same capacity and talks had been ongoing for weeks before it got ironed out. Suzuki earned $1.5 million on a one-year pact this season.

Tigers' manager Brad Ausmus said Saturday that Mikie Mahtook is dealing with a grade 2 groin strain and is likely to miss the remainder of the 2017 season.

It's a tough finish to the season for the 27-year-old who had a breakthrough season offensively. He presumably finishes the season hitting .276/.330/.457 with 12 homers, 38 RBI and six stolen bases. He should have a leg up on a starting job in the Tigers' outfield heading into 2018.

Chris Iannetta had a three-run homer and a grand slam as part of an eight-RBI night as the Diamondbacks beat the Marlins 13-11 on Friday.

A career high in RBI, topping the seven-RBI game he had against the Padres three months ago in June. Iannetta, who spent way too much of the first half playing behind Jeff Mathis, is hitting .257/.356/.514 with 15 homers in just 257 at-bats. That's pretty good for someone the Diamondbacks lucked into when no one else wanted to make a significant commitment; he's playing for just $1.5 million after signing in January.
