Anthony Rizzo went 2-for-6 and came through with a bases-loaded double in the 10th inning to help the Cubs defeat the Angels 8-6 on Wednesday.

Angels reliever Robert Coello had only allowed one run all year before the 10th inning of Wednesday's game, but Rizzo cleared the bases with a two-out double to right field. The double was Rizzo's 18th of the season to go along with 10 home runs, and the three RBI gave him 39 RBI on the year. The first baseman is now hitting .259/.325/.491 through 57 games.

Dustin Pedroia (nose) is hoping to return to the Red Sox starting lineup on Wednesday.

Pedroia is being held out of action Tuesday against the Orioles after taking a ricocheted foul ball to the face on Monday night, but he only suffered a nasal contusion and is already feeling better. Brock Holt will get the start at second base for Boston on Tuesday versus Baltimore.
Sep 19 - 5:18 PM

Brad Ziegler (back) remains unavailable due to an illness.

Ziegler is recovered from his back injury, but he'll need another couple days off to get past this apparent flu bug. Primary setup man Kyle Barraclough has struggled lately, so Marlins manager Don Mattingly will probably play the matchups if a save opportunity arises Tuesday night against the Mets.
Sep 19 - 5:10 PM

Jake Arrieta (hamstring) is lined up to return to the Cubs' rotation Thursday at Milwaukee.

Arrieta made it through another bullpen session Tuesday afternoon at Tropicana Field without experiencing any discomfort in his right hamstring. If he reports back to the visitors clubhouse Wednesday feeling just as good, the Cubs should give him the official go-ahead to start Thursday's series opener at Miller Park (on a pitch count of 75-80). Arrieta has been sidelined since September 4.
Sep 19 - 5:02 PM

Cardinals activated RHP Adam Wainwright from the 10-day disabled list.

Wainwright will work out of the bullpen for the remainder of the season after missing over a month with a right elbow impingement. The veteran is sitting on a disappointing 5.12 ERA and 1.49 WHIP in 121 1/3 innings (23 starts) this summer. He is owed $19.5 million in 2018, the final year of a five-year, $97.5 million deal.
Sep 19 - 4:13 PM

Bryce Harper (knee) participated in a simulated game Tuesday at Atlanta's SunTrust Park.

Harper did some hitting on the field and also fielded grounders in right field as he continues to make his way back from a bone bruise in his left knee and a left calf strain. Nothing is official yet, but it sounds like he has a real chance to shake the rust with some at-bats before the postseason begins.
Sep 19 - 3:51 PM

Amed Rosario (stomach) remains out of the Mets' lineup Tuesday.

Rosario was treated for gastroenteritis Monday night at the University of Miami hospital and is resting back at the team hotel. Consider him day-to-day. Jose Reyes will handle shortstop duties, with Phillip Evans drawing a start at second base.
Sep 19 - 3:46 PM

Corey Seager is in the Dodgers' lineup Tuesday against the Phillies.

Seager got the day off Monday, but he's expected to be in the lineup moving forward. The young shortstop is dealing with a nagging elbow issue which might require surgery in the offseason, but he's going to try to grind through it with the playoffs approaching.
Sep 19 - 3:44 PM

Luis Severino will start Wednesday against the Twins.

The thought was that the Yankees wanted to avoid using Severino against the Twins, with a potential Wild Card game matchup coming up, but the club has decided to keep him on regular rest. Masahiro Tanaka was originally lined up to start Wednesday, but he'll presumably be pushed back to Friday against the Blue Jays.
Sep 19 - 3:38 PM

Marcell Ozuna is absent from the Marlins' lineup Tuesday against the Mets.

Marlins manager Don Mattingly has been looking to get his regulars some rest, so Ozuna will sit out Tuesday night. Ichiro Suzuki will take his place and bat leadoff.
Sep 19 - 3:35 PM

Dee Gordon is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Mets.

He's just getting a breather. Derek Dietrich will start at second base and Brian Anderson will play third.
Sep 19 - 3:34 PM

Jedd Gyorko (hamstring) has returned to the Cardinals' lineup Tuesday versus the Reds.

Gyorko has had a couple of pinch-hit appearances since returning from the disabled list, but this will be his first start since suffering his hamstring strain in late August. He's hitting seventh against right-hander Jackson Stephens.
