Pablo Sandoval will undergo an MRI on his ailing left foot.

Sandoval aggravated his foot strain during his first at-bat on Saturday. The Giants are calling the MRI precautionary, but Panda will miss at least Sunday's game it's certainly possible that he'll be out longer. He missed three games earlier this month with the injury.

Kolten Wong hit a game-tying two-run homer against the Pirates on Monday.

The Cardinals entered the bottom of the seventh down 4-2 before Kolten Wong hit a pinch-hit two-run homer to tie the game at 4-4. Wong was out of the lineup to start after hitting his head on the field on Sunday, but he passed concussion tests and was able to come through in dramatic fashion on Labor Day. Hopefully Wong is completely in the clear health-wise and will be able to add to his .252/.293/.404 slash. When he's going right, Wong has the power to help carry a squad.

Matt Holliday hit a two-run double and a go-ahead RBI single against the Pirates on Monday.

Holliday hit the double, his 33rd, off of Gerrit Cole in the third inning. It drew the Cardinals to within 3-2. After a Kolten Wong home run knotted the game at 4-4 in the seventh, Holliday delivered a go-ahead RBI single to make the score 5-4, which held up for the Cards at the end. Holliday finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBI. He's rediscovered his power stroke in the second half of the season. Prior to the All Star break, he was slugging just .389 with six home runs. Since the break, he's slugged .531 with ten home runs.
Sep 1 - 6:02 PM

Phillies purchased the contract of 3B Maikel Franco from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

It's official. Franco got off to a slow start this season, but he hit .324 with a .922 OPS, 11 home runs, and 47 RBI in 54 games after the start of July. It's unclear if he'll play everyday, as the Phillies still have Cody Asche in the fold at third base, but he's capable of providing mixed league value when in the lineup.
Sep 1 - 5:58 PM

Michael Morse is out of Monday's lineup against the Rockies after tweaking his hip during batting practice.

Joaquin Arias will make the start at first base. Consider Morse day-to-day for now.
Sep 1 - 5:30 PM

Cole Hamels combined with relievers Jake Diekman, Ken Giles, and Jonathan Papelbon for a no-hitter in Monday afternoon's 7-0 defeat of the host Braves.

It's the only combined no-hitter in the 132-year history of the Phillies and the first one that has ever been thrown against Atlanta. Hamels probably would have liked to go the distance, but his pitch count shot up early because of five walks and seven strikeouts. He was relieved in the bottom of the seventh inning by Diekman, who struck out two of the three batters he faced. Giles then struck out all three batters he faced in the eighth, and Papelbon finished it off on a flyout, a groundout, and a lineout in the ninth. Hamels will face the Nationals on the road next.
Sep 1 - 4:41 PM

Dodgers purchased the contract of OF Joc Pederson from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Pederson won the Pacific Coast League MVP Award after batting .303/.435/.582 with 33 home runs and 30 stolen bases over 121 games this season. While he's an exciting player for the long-term, he's unlikely to be relevant in standard mixed leagues in September unless there's an injury in the Dodgers' outfield.
Sep 1 - 4:40 PM

Joe Mauer finished 3-for-4 with four RBI in the Twins' 6-4 defeat of the Orioles on Monday.

Mauer struck out swinging in his first at-bat, but he singled in the fourth inning, hit a two-run triple in the sixth inning, and then added a two-run single in the eighth. Mauer has been serving as the Twins' designated hitter for the past few games because of a sore shoulder but he is expected to return to first base this week.
Sep 1 - 4:26 PM

Phil Hughes held the Orioles to three unearned runs over eight innings Monday for his 15th win.

Baltimore scored those three runs on a Nick Hundley homer in the bottom of the seventh inning that was preceded by a J.J. Hardy throwing error. Hughes was otherwise dominant, striking out five batters and yielding only five total hits over his eight frames. He's 15-8 with a 3.54 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and 157/15 K/BB ratio in 180 2/3 innings this season. A home meeting with the Angels is next.
Sep 1 - 4:23 PM

Yasiel Puig was dropped down to sixth in the lineup for Monday's game against the Nationals.

Puig has never batted lower than fifth in a start, but his struggles have forced Don Mattingly's hand. The 23-year-old hit .216 with zero homers in August.
Sep 1 - 4:16 PM

Reds transferred RHP Homer Bailey from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

Bailey has been on the disabled list since the middle of August with a strained flexor tendon in his right elbow and wasn't making much progress on his strengthening program. Now he's done for the season. Reds general manager Walt Jocketty said Monday that he should make a decision this week whether to undergo surgery.
Sep 1 - 3:54 PM

Henderson Alvarez was removed from his start Monday versus the Mets with a left oblique strain.

That's awful news for the Marlins, as oblique strains often take 3-4 weeks to recover from and the 2014 regular season is in its final month. Alvarez allowed four runs -- three earned -- before exiting on Monday but still holds a sparkling 2.88 ERA on the year.
