Rafael Betancourt (groin) is scheduled to throw a light bullpen session Friday.

Betancourt will throw another one Sunday and is slated to have two sessions against hitters during the team's upcoming roadtrip. He's unlikely to return until around the end of the month, so Rex Brothers remains a must-own in fantasy leagues.

Adonis Garcia sent the Braves home happy with a walk-off two-run home run in the 12th inning against the Giants on Monday.

The Braves had fallen behind 8-7 in the top half of the frame, but Garcia played hero when he drilled a two-run shot to right-center against Ryan Vogelsong. He finished 2-for-6 on the night with a double along with the homer. In 11 games in the majors this season, he has nine hits in 40 plate appearances. Six of those nine hits are extra-base hits (three doubles, three homers).

Yoenis Cespedes plated four runs, doubling three times in five at-bats on Monday as the Mets routed the Nationals.

Cespedes had only one hit in eight plate appearances since joining the Mets, but broke out on Monday. He doubled in a pair of runs in the fifth inning and later scored, then added another two-run two-bagger in the sixth before coming home on a wild pitch. The Mets are now in first place ahead of the Nationals and Cespedes should provide plenty more offense for them down the stretch.
Aug 3 - 10:17 PM

Michael Conforto's first major league home run was a three-run home run that gave the Mets a lead they wouldn't relinquish on Monday versus the Marlins.

The 22-year-old rookie was batting .211 (4-for-19) in his first six big league games entering Monday. With a pair of ducks on the pond, Conforto deposited a Tom Koehler offering over the fence in right field at Marlins Park to give the Mets a 3-0 lead. He finished 2-for-4.
Aug 3 - 10:14 PM

Nick Ahmed went 4-for-4 with a solo home run as the Diamondbacks beat the Nationals on Monday.

Ahmed broke a scoreless tie in the top of the third inning with a solo home run off of Doug Fister. It was one of four Arizona homers on the evening. The shortstop hasn't exactly been an offensive dynamo, as Monday's performance still leaves him with a lackluster .232/.289/.348 batting line along with seven home runs and 26 RBI.
Aug 3 - 9:47 PM

Freddie Freeman was pulled from Monday's game versus the Giants with a right oblique strain.

Well, at least he didn't aggravate his wright injury. The Braves are calling Freeman day-to-day for the time being, but, as we all know, oblique injuries usually wind up leading to stints on the disabled list. Chris Johnson would be poised to take over at first base if Freeman misses significant time.
Aug 3 - 9:13 PM

Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that Jason Kipnis (shoulder) is expected to be sidelined for 2-3 weeks.

Kipnis tried to battle through a sore right shoulder for a few days, but the Indians finally placed him on the disabled list Monday. He doesn't have any structural damage, but it's an ailment that's bothered Kipnis off and on for a good chunk of the season. Mike Aviles is likely to receive the bulk of the playing time at second base while Kipnis is out.
Aug 3 - 7:46 PM

Chris Tillman (ankle) threw on flat ground from 90 feet Monday and is hoping to throw a bullpen session Wednesday.

Tillman had to be scratched from Monday's scheduled start due to a sprained right ankle, but he should be ready to rejoin the rotation later this week. The right-hander has been on a roll of late with a 1.09 ERA over his last six starts.
Aug 3 - 7:21 PM

Angel Pagan was scratched from Monday's lineup due to soreness in both knees.

Pagan had an issue with his left knee back in June and not only is it sore again but apparently his right one is, as well. "It's really evident," Giants manager Bruce Bochy said. The skipper indicated that it will likely be a multi-day absence for Pagan. Gregor Blanco is in center field Monday and Nori Aoki is in the leadoff spot.
Aug 3 - 5:42 PM

Athletics activated OF Coco Crisp from the 60-day disabled list.

Crisp is finally ready to give it a go again after being sidelined since mid-May with his ongoing neck issue. He had only two hits in 45 at-bats before going on the disabled list and remains a major health risk going forward. However, the A's plan to start him in left field and bat him second in the lineup as long as he's able to stay on the field.
Aug 3 - 5:23 PM

Denard Span (back) will resume light workouts on Monday.

Span has been shut down for the last two weeks since receiving a cortisone injection in his ailing back. He'll be slowly ramped back up and will need a rehab assignment before returning, so it will be a little while. Still, Monday was obviously a nice step for the outfielder.
Aug 3 - 4:38 PM

A.J. Burnett is expected to be sidelined for four weeks after being diagnosed with a right flexor strain.

Burnett has been given a platelet-rich plasma injection in hopes that it will speed along the recovery process. It has to be considered good news overall, as it appears Burnett's ligament is intact. However, he's far from out of the woods yet, and even if he makes it back he's not a great bet to stay healthy. Even Burnett himself admitted that the four-week timetable is "iffy." The righty also confirmed that he's committed to retirement after the season. The Pirates acquired J.A. Happ last week to bolster their rotation.
