Brewers placed OF Ryan Braun on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 9, with an inflamed nerve in his right hand.

Braun has been dealing with the injury for quite some time now, and the team feels it's in his best interest to shut him down completely and let it heal. Assuming he doesn't suffer any setbacks, Braun should still be expected to return before the end of June. Logan Schafer has been filling in while Braun was sidelined, and sees a substantial boost to his fantasy value while receiving everyday at-bats.

Yankees acquired OF/INF Dustin Ackley from the Mariners for OF Ramon Flores and RHP Jose Ramirez.

The Mariners selected Ackley with the No. 2 overall pick in 2009, but things never quite came together for him in Seattle, as he produced a disappointing .243/.306/.366 batting line over 584 games. The Yankees will have to hope that the change of scenery will make a difference for him. He could be a possibility to get some looks at second base over Stephen Drew.
Jul 30 - 4:57 PM

Dodgers acquired RHP Mat Latos from the Marlins in the 13-player, three-team Hector Olivera trade.

Olivera is going to the Braves along with Paco Rodriguez and Zachary Bird. Latos isn't quite a Cole Hamels, Johnny Cueto, or David Price type of catch for the Dodgers, but he boasts a 2.96 ERA and 43/9 K/BB ratio over 45 2/3 innings since returning in mid-June from a knee injury. It might be a sneaky-good pickup for Los Angeles.
Jul 30 - 4:38 PM

Mike Trout (wrist) is back in Thursday's lineup against the Astros.

Trout missed the previous two games due to inflammation in his left wrist, but the hope is that it won't be a lingering issue. He's back in center field Thursday with the Angels trying to avoid a sweep.
Jul 30 - 4:34 PM

Astros activated INF Jed Lowrie from the 60-day disabled list.

Lowrie was the Astros' regular shortstop prior to suffering a torn ligament in his right thumb in late April, but he now figures to get the majority of the playing time at third base. Sure enough, he's starting at the hot corner Thursday while Luis Valbuena plays first base. Lowrie was batting .300/.432/.567 with four homers and 10 RBI in 18 games prior to the injury.
Jul 30 - 4:14 PM

Braves acquired INF Hector Olivera from the Dodgers in the three-team, 13-player Alex Wood trade.

Los Angeles remains on the hook for Olivera's full $30 million signing bonus, so the Braves get the Cuban infielder for five years and around $22 million. That's a pretty significant discount on a player the Braves were known to be coveting while he was still on the international free agent market. Olvera, 30, has hit .348/.392/.493 in his first 19 minor league games. He should debut for the Braves by September.
Jul 30 - 4:04 PM

Kris Bryant is not in Thursday's lineup against the Brewers.

He's just getting a day off. Chris Coghlan will fill in at third base and bat third.
Jul 30 - 4:01 PM

Daniel Norris will make his Tigers debut on Sunday afternoon against the Orioles.

Norris was acquired from the Blue Jays on Thursday in the four-player David Price trade. He is a very well-regarded young pitching prospect and should do well with the move from Rogers Centre to Comerica Park (though his debut Sunday will be at Camden Yards). Give the 22-year-old a boost in stock in mixed fantasy leagues.

Jonathan Papelbon tossed a scoreless ninth in Thursday afternoon's 1-0 win over the Marlins, locking down his first save since being traded from the Phillies on June 28.

Everything went according to plan. Former closer Drew Storen entered in the eighth inning and struck out two of the three batters he faced, then handed the 1-0 lead over to Papelbon, who worked a scoreless final frame while striking out one. Storen might not be happy about losing his job, but if he can set aside his personal feelings, the Nationals' new combination for the eighth and ninth could be lethal. Prior to the trade, Paps was pitching to a 1.59 ERA and 40/8 K/BB ratio over 39 2/3 innings. He's now a perfect 18-for-18 in save chances between his two teams.
Jul 30 - 3:17 PM

Yankees placed RHP Michael Pineda on the 15-day disabled list with a right flexor forearm muscle strain.

It's a Grade 1 strain -- the least severe, but still quite serious. Andrew Miller missed a month earlier this year with the same injury. CC Sabathia is starting in Pineda's place Thursday night against the Rangers. It's time for the unusually-quiet Yanks to dive head-first into the trade market.
Jul 30 - 3:02 PM

Max Scherzer was in control throughout Thursday afternoon's 1-0 win over the Marlins, allowing just three hits and no runs over seven innings.

Scherzer had no margin for error in the contest, as the Nationals scored one run in the game, total. That's all Max Scherzer needs, apparently, as he allowed just three singles in a dominant performance. Perhaps the most notable aspect of the start was that the normally walk-stingy Scherzer handed out three free passes against six strikeouts. We're nitpicking, just because he's been so awesome this year. He'll carry a sharp 2.22 ERA, 0.83 WHIP and 172/19 K/BB ratio across 150 innings into his next start, a home date with the Diamondbacks.
Jul 30 - 2:59 PM

Cardinals placed OF Matt Holliday on the 15-day disabled list with a right quadriceps strain.

Holliday just missed six weeks with the very same injury and it's fair to ask now whether he may be done for the remainder of the 2015 season. Stephen Piscotty figures to take over as the Cardinals' primary left fielder, with newcomer Brandon Moss also seeing some starts there. Piscotty is worth an add in deep mixed fantasy leagues.
