According to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports, the Rays have "toyed with the idea" of calling up Brent Honeywell to pitch out of the bullpen.

MLB.com's Anthony DiComo said it "doesn't sound like" Dominic Smith's promotion to the major leagues is imminent.

Mark Feinsand of MLB.com named the Brewers and Diamondbacks as teams that have shown interest in Addison Reed.

Reed is in the last year of his contract and the Mets would like to get something for him before he inevitably walks in free agency. He seems to be drawing plenty of interest with the Brewers, D'Backs, Dodgers, Rays and Red Sox among his top suitors. Going to Arizona would be a homecoming of sorts for Reed, who spent a year and a half with the D'Backs before joining the Mets late in the 2015 campaign. Reed has been filling in as the Mets' closer but may have to settle for a setup role if he's dealt at the trade deadline.

According to Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, the Astros have done "background work" on Ervin Santana.

The Astros have been linked to a number of starters now including Francisco Liriano, Jeff Samardzija and of course Sonny Gray. Santana was dealing early in the year but has lost three of his last five outings for the struggling Twins while seeing a noticeable drop-off in his velocity. Houston's primary focus is still to bolster their bullpen but obviously they wouldn't mind adding another arm to their rotation.

Rays acquired 1B Lucas Duda from the Mets in exchange for RHP Drew Smith.

The Yankees were also in on Duda, which likely added to the Rays' sense of urgency. There was no money in the deal as the Rays have agreed to pay the remainder of Duda's $7.25 million salary. It's a good match on paper as the Mets were looking to break up their infield logjam while the Rays needed a left-handed bat to replace Colby Rasmus. The power-hitting 31-year-old should immediately slide in as the Rays' everyday DH. The Rays also acquired reliever Dan Jennings on Thursday, a rare sight for a team that is usually a seller at the deadline. Back in New York, it shouldn't be long until the Mets promote top first base prospect Dominic Smith, who has impressed by hitting .337 with 15 HR and 68 RBI in 102 games for Triple-A Las Vegas this year.

RotoGrinders.com Daily Slant: Assuming the Mets add another right-handed bat to the lineup in Duda's place, Luis Perdomo would become an even more appealing main slate option

Joel Sherman of the New York Post believes Jaime Garcia could be viewed as a fallback option for the Yankees if the team is unable to acquire Sonny Gray.

In a wild turn of events, the Twins are reportedly shopping a pitcher they just traded for. New York and Seattle were among Garcia's top suitors before his trade to Minnesota and the Yankees could pivot to him if talks with Gray fall through. As of now, Garcia is set to make his Twins debut Friday against Oakland.

According to SB Nation's Chris Cotillo, the Astros and Twins have both been "linked" to Francisco Liriano.

Cotillo qualifies that Minnesota's interest in Liriano likely came before the team acquired Jaime Garcia, who could be dealt again before Monday's deadline. The Astros have cast a wide net in their search for a starting pitcher, pursuing a number of arms including Liriano, Jeff Samardzija and even Sonny Gray. Liriano has mostly been ineffective this year (6-5, 5.99 ERA) but he comes with a proven track record and could benefit from a change of scenery. Kansas City has shown the most interest in Liriano to this point.

Kendrys Morales clubbed a pair of solo home runs and scored three times in Thursday's victory over the Athletics.

Morales took Sean Manaea over the center field wall in the fifth inning and then led off the bottom of the ninth with a solo blast off of Blake Treinen to tie the game before Toronto won in the 10th. With three longballs over the last two days, Morales now has an even 20 home runs on the season. That puts him on pace for his second straight 30-homer campaign.

According to MLB.com's Mark Feinsand, the Twins are "fielding calls" on Brandon Kintzler and Brian Dozier.

The slumping Twins have gone from buyers to sellers in the span of a week. Dozier attracted significant trade interest last offseason following his breakout 2016 campaign while the All-Star Kintzler would make sense for a bullpen-needy team like the Dodgers or Red Sox. The Twins are also said to be shopping Ervin Santana and Jaime Garcia, who Minnesota acquired from Atlanta earlier this week.

According to MLB Network's Jon Morosi, the Dodgers are "increasingly confident" that they will acquire one of Yu Darvish, Sonny Gray or Justin Verlander ahead of Monday's trade deadline.

The Dodgers were looking to upgrade their rotation even before injuries sent Clayton Kershaw and Brandon McCarthy to the disabled list. With Kershaw facing a potentially lengthy absence, L.A.'s sense of urgency has obviously increased. Darvish, Gray and Verlander have all drawn varying degrees of interest leading up to the deadline. Out of those three, Verlander would probably be L.A.'s fall-back given his age and exorbitant salary. The Dodgers are already the best team in baseball and adding a top-flight starter would probably make them World Series favorites.

Trevor Bauer tossed eight innings of one-run ball in Thursday's 2-1 victory over the Angels.

The talented-but-inconsistent Bauer had his stuff together in this one, limiting the Halos to just seven hits and one walk while recording six strikeouts. He needed 116 pitches to get through his eight frames, which is his second-highest total of the season. It was a much-needed superb performance for Bauer, as his rotation spot would appear to be on shaky ground with Danny Salazar back. Bauer will take on the Red Sox at Fenway in his next start.
