Jake Peavy (rib) spent 30 minutes riding a stationary bike on Thursday and reported feeling fine.

It was his first conditioning workout of any kind since he was placed on the disabled list June 6 with a non-displaced fracture in his rib cage. "A step in the right direction," Peavy told reporters on Thursday. "It was fun to be active again after not being able to do anything for two weeks." He is aiming for a mid-July return.

Sonny Gray had to exit Sunday's start against the Rays with a right ankle contusion.

Gray was hit by a comebacker in the fourth inning. He initially stayed in and completed five scoreless frames, but the ankle must have swelled up on him. Gray should be fine for his next start.
May 24 - 3:00 PM

Giants designated 3B Casey McGehee for assignment.

The Giants traded for McGehee over the winter in hopes that he'd pick up some of the offensive slack following the loss to Pablo Sandoval. It would be an understatement to say it didn't work out, as he hit just .200/.254/.282 and is now off the roster. Matt Duffy will be San Francisco's regular third baseman.
May 24 - 2:10 PM

Matt Holliday was scratched from Sunday's lineup with a left arm contusion.

Holliday was hit on the arm by a pitch during Saturday's game and evidently is still sore. Pete Kozma entered the lineup at shortstop in Holliday's place, with Jhonny Peralta sliding into the designated hitter spot and Mark Reynolds moving to left field.

Steven Souza left Sunday's game versus the Athletics with a left wrist injury.

Souza initially hurt the wrist on a collision at home plate with Stephen Vogt, and he then aggravated it later on a swing. The A's should have more on his status later Sunday.
May 24 - 2:05 PM

Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times reports that the Dodgers and Athletics discussed a trade involving Jesse Chavez over the offseason.

They could wind up revisiting the talks, as the A's have baseball's worst record and the Dodgers are in need of rotation help following season-ending injuries to Brandon McCarthy (elbow) and Hyun-Jin Ryu (shoulder). Chavez began the season in Oakland's bullpen but joined the rotation late last month and has posted a 2.89 ERA and 41/13 K/BB ratio over 43 2/3 innings. The Dodgers are also known to have engaged in trade discussions with the Phillies over the winter regarding Cole Hamels, so it's possible they'll try to reel in a bigger fish than Chavez.
May 24 - 1:41 PM

Jason Heyward (hip) remained out of the Cardinals' lineup Sunday.

He's now sat out two straight contests with tightness in his left hip. Heyward is considered day-to-day. Randal Grichuk is getting another start in right field.
May 24 - 12:26 PM

Avisail Garcia (knee) is back in the White Sox' lineup Sunday.

Garcia hasn't played since Thursday due to inflammation in his right knee, but he apparently feels well enough to give it a go in this one. The 23-year-old is hitting a nifty .319/.359/.451 with four homers this season.

Jean Segura (finger) could be activated from the disabled list as soon as Friday.

Segura will undergo an X-ray on Monday to see if his fractured right pinkie finger is healed. If it is, a decision will be made on whether he needs a short rehab assignment. Friday is the first day he's eligible to return from the disabled list.
May 24 - 11:37 AM

Jonathan Lucroy (toe) could be activated from the disabled list as soon as next weekend.

Lucroy will have an X-ray Monday to see if his fractured left big toe is healed. If it is, he'll be cleared for a short rehab assignment and could be back in the Brewers' lineup next weekend when they take on the Diamondbacks. He's been on the shelf since mid-April.
May 24 - 11:35 AM

Red Sox placed OF Shane Victorino on the 15-day disabled list with a left calf strain.

Victorino originally hurt the calf in the middle of last week and then aggravated the ailment on Saturday. He's played just 50 of a possible 204 games since the start of 2014 due to a variety of ailments. Rusney Castillo will be the Red Sox' everyday right fielder.
May 24 - 11:30 AM

Tigers placed LHP Kyle Lobstein on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 19, with left shoulder inflammation.

He's actually been dealing with the shoulder issue for a couple starts and it apparently hasn't been getting better. Lobstein will undergo an MRI to make sure he's not dealing with anything more than inflammation. Buck Farmer will take his spot in the Tigers' rotation.
