Yankees signed OF Corey Patterson to a minor league contract; assigned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Patterson, 33, was released by the Mariners earlier this month after batting just .175/.224/.270 over 19 games at the Triple-A level. He hasn't appeared in the majors since 2011 and will continue to provide organizational depth.

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports reports that the Nationals "could be a favorite" to land Aroldis Chapman.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reported Saturday that the Yankees are telling teams they are close to dealing Chapman and Heyman says the reliever is the Nats' main target at the trade deadline. It appears that something could get done soon, although Heyman notes that the Yanks are targeting Joe Ross in a deal but the Nats are "disinclined to trade him."

White Sox manager Robin Ventura on Saturday wouldn't say when Chris Sale would make his next start.

Sale was scratched from Saturday's start and sent home after a dust-up with the front office regarding throwback uniforms that he didn't want to wear. "I'll talk about the game, but any of that stuff, we'll wait on that," Ventura said. "I'm not going to discuss what went on in there. But (it's) unfortunate he didn't start tonight. Proud of the guys who filled in." Jose Quintana will start as scheduled on Sunday. Miguel Gonzalez is currently slated to take the ball Monday, although that seems like a spot Sale could easily slide into, assuming he and the front office work out their issues. The left-hander might be traded prior to the deadline.

Zack Greinke (oblique) threw a 45-pitch bullpen session Saturday.

Greinke came out of the session with no issues. Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale said that the club is still determining what the next step will be for Greinke, although it's possible he's ready to make a rehab start. A return in early August is looking likely if he can avoid a setback.

Miguel Sano went 3-for-5 with a home run and two RBI as the Twins outlasted the Red Sox 11-9 on Saturday.

Sano had three of the team's 19 hits, including his solo home run in the eighth inning. The dinger was his 15th of the season and his fourth in the month of July. It has been a good month all around for the 23-year-old, who is hitting .251/.349/.474 in his first full season in the bigs.
Jul 24 - 1:00 AM

Trevor Story stuffed the box score on Saturday, going 4-for-4 with two home runs, five RBI, three runs scored and a stolen base.

He hit a two-run homer in the second inning, then added a solo shot in the eighth. The rookie now has 26 longballs on the season, which is a lot more than he ever hit in a minor league season. He is batting .272/.347/.580 with 63 runs, 67 RBI and seven steals. He has an extremely high strikeout rate, but that has not interfered with his stellar overall production yet.
Jul 24 - 12:49 AM

Kendall Graveman tossed a complete game and held the Rays to three runs as the Athletics won in walk-off fashion by a score of 4-3 on Saturday.

It was his first complete game of the season and only the second of his career. He finished the game on an efficient 102 pitches after allowing nine hits and one walk. He fanned four batters. He now has a 7-6 record and 4.15 ERA in 110 2/3 innings spread across 19 starts.
Jul 24 - 12:36 AM

Adrian Beltre went 2-for-5 with a three-run home run to help the Rangers best the Royals 7-4 on Saturday.

Beltre also had a double in the game, but it was his big fly with two runners on in the seventh inning that put the game out of reach. The home run was his 14th of the year, giving him 60 RBI and 49 runs scored. The seemingly ageless third baseman is batting .271/.326/.446 overall.
Jul 24 - 12:30 AM

Giancarlo Stanton broke out of a miniature slump in a big way Saturday, finishing 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBI to lead the Marlins past the Mets 7-2.

Stanton connected for a two-run home run in the third inning, later adding an RBI single. The big night broke a 6-for-27 (.222) stretch dating back to last week's All-Star break. The homer was his 21st of the season. The 26-year-old is hitting .241/.334/.495 with 55 RBI and 44 runs scored on the year.
Jul 24 - 12:13 AM

Kevin Gausman shut out the Indians for seven innings, striking out seven, walking three and giving up only four hits as the Orioles won 5-2 on Saturday.

The win was only the second of the season for Gausman even though he has pitched well. His record improves to 2-7 with a 3.77 ERA in 17 starts. He has fanned 95 batters and walked only 23 in 100 1/3 innings.
Jul 23 - 11:53 PM

Wei-Yin Chen has been scratched from his scheduled start Monday against the Phillies.

It's an injury, but there are no specifics yet. Look for an update Sunday morning. Jarred Cosart will be called up from Triple-A New Orleans to take the hill instead.
Jul 23 - 11:43 PM

Jay Bruce went 2-for-4 with a three-run home run to lead the Reds to a 6-1 win over the Diamondbacks on Saturday.

The blast gave him 20 for the season with 69 RBI. He also doubled tonight. His .859 OPS is a nice gift for his owners after his sub-par 2014 and 2015 seasons. Bruce is highly likely to be traded in the next 10 days, but tonight he remained a key member of the team that drafted him in the first round in 2005.
