Phillies purchased the contract of RHP J.C. Ramirez from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Ramirez, 24, will provide bullpen depth with Mike Adams on the disabled list. He has just a 5.30 ERA over 27 appearances between two levels of the minors.

Bryce Harper departed Sunday's game against the Pirates with an apparent injury to his left hand.

Harper slid awkwardly into third base in the top of the third inning after Jung Ho Kang faked a tag and appeared to hurt his hand. He stayed in and wound up scoring a run but was then removed before the bottom of the frame. The Nationals should provide an update on Harper shortly.

Brandon Crawford (finger) is back in the Giants' lineup Sunday.

Crawford missed four games with a dislocated left pinkie, but he's ready to give it a go in this one. Crawford is at shortstop and batting seventh against Clayton Richard and the Padres. Brandon Belt and Angel Pagan are sitting out against the lefty, as the Giants have Buster Posey at first base and Gorkys Hernandez in center field.

Sonny Gray (forearm) will start on Wednesday against the Angels.

Gray has been on the shelf since early August with inflammation in his right forearm, but he's been throwing off a mound for a couple weeks and is ready to test things out in a game. He's expected to go only 1-2 innings in the outing and can be safely avoided in fantasy leagues for the final week.

A.J. Pollock (groin) told Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale that he thought he was "going to feel much better" when he ran on Friday.

Pollock was hoping to make a late-season return from a strained groin that he suffered a little over two weeks ago, but this little setback should effectively end his campaign. "He wants to get back in there," Hale said, "and obviously we’re not going to let him run the bases or get in a game until he can run 100 percent without pain."

Andy Slater of 940-AM WINZ reports that Jose Fernandez was killed early Sunday morning in a boating accident.

He was one of three people killed in a crash off of Miami Beach. The Marlins have cancelled Sunday's game against the Braves following this unfathomably tragic news. Fernandez turned just 24 at the end of July and, of course, had already been through plenty with what he experienced in defecting from Cuba. Our thoughts go out to Fernandez's family and the Marlins during this horrific tragedy.

Maikel Franco homered in his third straight game Saturday, and the Phillies outlasted the Mets 10-8.

For the fourth game in a row, Franco had two hits, and for the third straight game one of those hits left the yard. He finished 2-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored on Saturday, with his three-run jack in the first inning accounting for all his runs driven in. He's finishing a relatively disappointing season on a high note, as the 24-year-old now has 25 homers and 87 RBI to go with a .253/.304/.433 line overall.
Sep 25 - 1:16 AM

Clayton Kershaw shut down the Rockies for seven scoreless innings on three hits as the Dodgers won 14-1 on Saturday.

He struck out six and didn't walk anybody. It was another vintage Kershaw outing. He improved his record to 12-3 with a remarkable 1.65 ERA. He has punched out 168 batters and walked only 10 in 142 innings. He missed a couple months to a back injury but has returned with a vengeance. With the Dodgers likely to clinch a division title before his next turn, it remains to be seen if Kershaw will get another start in the regular season.

Joey Votto went 1-for-2 with a two-run home run and three walks as the Reds downed the Brewers 6-1 on Saturday.

Votto took Brewers starter Taylor Jungmann deep in the first inning for the two-run dong, his 26th of the season. The 33-year-old is hitting .320/.433/.533 with 89 RBI and 94 runs scored -- amazing after he hit .252 with an .832 OPS in the first half -- and he ranks among the league leaders in a number of offensive categories. It's a shame the Reds haven't been able to do more during the height of his brilliance.
Sep 25 - 12:59 AM

Josh Reddick went 3-for-4 with a grand slam, drove in five runs and scored three times to lead the Dodgers over the Rockies on Saturday.

He added a walk as well. The Dodgers were already ahead 10-0 when he hit the grand slam but they all count the same in fantasyland. He has been playing nearly every day of late and has a .281/.346/.407 slash line combined between his games with Oakland and Los Angeles this season. The home run was his 10th of the season to go with 37 RBI and 53 runs scored in 388 at-bats.
Sep 25 - 12:36 AM

Dee Gordon went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and two runs scored in the Marlins' 6-4 win over the Braves on Saturday.

Gordon had no fear for Braves catcher Anthony Recker, walking and stealing second base in the first inning, stealing third base in the third inning and stealing second again an inning later. The three steals give him 26 steals in 74 games this year. His .257/.298/.320 line leaves something to be desired, but the 28-year-old's speed is a fantasy difference-maker and with a full year to work with in 2017, he should once again be among the cream of the crop at second base.
Sep 25 - 12:28 AM

Jayson Werth went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored, and the Nationals beat the Pirates 6-1 on Saturday.

The win, coupled with the Mets' loss to the Phillies, handed the Nationals their third NL East crown in the last five years. The 37-year-old has had a hand in that, hitting 20 homers with 68 RBI and 82 runs scored while batting .249/.337/.422 in 137 games.
