Alex Avila (forearm) is scheduled to begin a minor league rehab assignment Sunday at Triple-A Toledo.

Avila is aiming to return from the disabled list on the first day that he's eligible and is currently on track to meet that goal. He suffered an ugly forearm bruise on June 16 when he was hit by a pitch.

Michael Taylor (knee) is back in the Nationals' lineup Sunday.

Taylor didn't start the last couple games due to a bruised right knee. He was able to pinch-hit Saturday, though, and is back in the lineup Sunday.

Hanley Ramirez (shoulder) remained out of the Red Sox' lineup Sunday.

He's missed the entire weekend series versus the Braves due to fatigue in his left shoulder. Alejandro De Aza is in left field again in Ramirez's place.
Aug 30 - 10:03 AM

David Ortiz (heel) is back in the Red Sox' lineup Sunday.

Ortiz didn't start Saturday due to tightness in his left heel, although he did double as a pinch-hitter. The 39-year-old sports a .265/.353/.510 batting line with 27 homers and 77 RBI this season.
Aug 30 - 10:01 AM

Jose Peraza went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases Saturday in the Dodgers' 5-2 defeat of the Cubs.

Peraza singled, stole third base, and scored a run in the bottom of the third inning. In the bottom of the seventh inning, he smacked an RBI double and scored his second run of the game. In the eighth inning he reached on a fielder's choice and stole second. The young infield prospect can be a weapon as a pinch-runner down the stretch for Los Angeles and he'll be an intriguing daily fantasy play on days he starts.
Aug 30 - 12:48 AM

Jay Bruce went 3-for-5 with a three-run home run, a double and three runs scored in Saturday's 12-9 win over the Brewers.

You could throw a dart at the top half of the Reds lineup and you'd likely hit somebody who had fun destroying the Brewers. Joey Votto, Todd Frazier and Bruce all hit home runs, while Bruce, Votto and Jason Bourgeois all finished the game with three hits. Bruce did his damage with a three-run tater off the collapsing star that is Matt Garza in the second inning. It was his 19th homer of the season and pushed his season RBI total to 72. In addition, the 28-year-old outfielder maintains a .233/.307/.443 batting line.
Aug 29 - 11:29 PM

Stephen Vogt finished 3-for-3 with a homer and three RBI in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Diamondbacks.

Vogt slugged a two-run homer in the second inning, singled in the fourth, drew a walk in the sixth, and smacked an RBI single in the eighth. It was a promising performance from the 30-year-old, who has been slumping in the second half.
Aug 29 - 10:59 PM

Yan Gomes drove in five runs Saturday in the Indians' 8-3 rout of the Angels.

Gomes hit a sacrifice fly that scored Carlos Santana in the bottom of the second inning and he launched a grand slam in Cleveland's five-run eighth inning. Gomes is trying to end his mostly-disappointing 2015 on a high note. He's definitely capable of a strong finish.
Aug 29 - 10:54 PM

Jordan Zimmermann turned in a nice start in Saturday's 5-1 win over the Marlins, throwing seven innings of one-run ball.

Zimmermann scattered seven hits while striking out four and walking one. Justin Bour managed a solo homer against Zimmy in the seventh, but it was otherwise a trouble-free outing for the 29-year-old right-hander. Turning the corner to September, he'll look to improve on a 3.45 ERA and 1.22 WHIP while taking on the Braves.
Aug 29 - 9:51 PM

Brandon Crawford (oblique) is aiming to return to the Giants' starting lineup on Monday.

Crawford sat out again on Saturday, but he was able to take pregame batting practice on the field without issue. Crawford has been out since Tuesday due to tightness in his left oblique, with Ehire Adrianza filling in at shortstop against the Cubs and Cardinals.
Aug 29 - 9:04 PM

Lance Lynn (ankle) expects to make his next scheduled start in the Cardinals' rotation.

Lynn rolled his right ankle on Saturday and might have also tweaked his knee, but he was walking around without a limp after the game and wore cowboy boots out of the visitors clubhouse at AT&T Park. Lynn went seven scoreless innings in a victory Saturday against the Giants, lowering his season ERA to 2.80. He'll be evaluated when the Cardinals return to St. Louis on Monday.
Aug 29 - 8:22 PM

Mets acquired RHP Addison Reed from the Diamondbacks.

Adam Rubin of ESPN New York had the news first. It's been a mostly disappointing 2015 season for Reed, who went from closing games for the Diamondbacks to open the year to pitching out of the bullpen at Triple-A Reno in June. He has been much better lately and the Mets will hope he can stay on that roll. Arizona will get two minor league pitchers in return.
