Reds optioned OF Donald Lutz to Double-A Pensacola.

He's no longer needed with Chris Heisey back from the DL. Lutz batted just .241/.254/.310 over 34 games for the Reds.

MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez reports Huston Street and the Angels are expected to exchange offers on a potential contract extension soon.

The sides had exploratory talks over the winter but broke off their discussions when pitchers and catchers reported to Arizona. Street, who represents himself, is said to be looking for a contract between Andrew Miller's four-year, $36 million contract and David Robertson's four-year, $46 million contract. He's set to make $7 million in the final year of his deal before hitting the free agent market this fall.

Marcus Semien stayed hot Wednesday, going 2-for-2 with a walk and three RBI in a Cactus League win over the Giants.

Semien is now 5-for-5 with a walk and six RBI in six plate appearances this spring. The 24-year-old shortstop was one of the focal points for the Athletics in the Jeff Samardzija trade, and he's showing why early in camp. Semien is penciled in as the Athletics' starting shortstop and he should be on AL-only fantasy radars -- if not as a flier in deep mixed leagues -- this draft season.
Mar 4 - 6:58 PM

Matt Kemp was hitless in three at-bats in Wednesday's 4-3 Cactus League loss to the Mariners.

Kemp struck out once and also grounded into a double-play. The 30-year-old outfielder was quite productive in a bounce-back season for the Dodgers last year, finishing with a .287 average, 25 home runs, and 89 RBI. The Padres are hoping he comes close to replicating those numbers in a more pitcher-friendly home ballpark.

Jesus Montero singled twice in two at-bats in his spring debut on Wednesday against the Padres.

Montero, who showed up to camp 45 pounds lighter, is hoping to make an impression after years of failing to live up to his hype as a top prospect. It's difficult to see him opening the season in the majors with the Mariners, but a hot spring from Montero may make manager Lloyd McClendon rethink some things about his bench.

Joc Pederson singled, doubled, and scored a run in two at-bats in Wednesday's Cactus League opener.

Pederson figures to be the Dodgers' starting center fielder on Opening Day. He recorded only four singles in 28 at-bats last September, but that was his first taste of big league competition and his playing time was spotty. The Dodgers have high expectations for the 22-year-old, who is a potential 20-HR/20-SB candidate.
Mar 4 - 6:06 PM

Raisel Iglesias, making his spring training debut, surrendered two unearned runs in a loss against the Indians on Wednesday.

Iglesias allowed a single, walked two, and uncorked two wild pitches. He was also hurt by a fielding error from third baseman Neftali Soto. That's obviously not the first impression Iglesias wanted to make, but he'll have plenty of time to right the ship. The Reds like his arsenal and see him as a starting pitcher though he was used mostly as a reliever in Cuba.
Mar 4 - 5:45 PM

Jose Iglesias told reporters that he "ran full bore" for the first time in Wednesday's game.

Iglesias played three innings in Wednesday's Grapefruit League tilt against the Orioles. He grounded out in both of his at-bats, but the throw only got him by about a half-a-step each time. "Three weeks from now, I will beat those," the shortstop said. He missed the entire 2014 season because of dual stress fractures in his shins.
Mar 4 - 5:01 PM

Mike Minor has been scratched from his scheduled Grapefruit League debut Sunday against the Astros due to tightness in his left (throwing) shoulder.

Yikes. There isn't much more information yet from the Braves, who will likely have Minor visit a specialist within the next few days. Minor put up a disappointing 4.77 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in 25 starts last season, but the 27-year-old left-hander seemed like a decent bounceback candidate for 2015. He posted a 3.21 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and 181/46 K/BB ratio across 204 2/3 innings in 2013. Atlanta owes him $5.6 million this year.
Mar 4 - 4:44 PM

Nick Castellanos hit a two-run homer in the Tigers' 5-4 win over the Orioles on Wednesday.

The hand contusion that knocked Castellanos out of Tuesday's game obviously wasn't a lingering issue. The sophomore hit cleanup for the Tigers today, though he'll probably open the regular season in the seventh spot in the lineup if everyone is healthy.
Mar 4 - 4:38 PM

Carlos Beltran (elbow) will make his Grapefruit League debut on Friday.

The Yankees are understandably easing Beltran into things this spring, as he turns 38 in April and is coming back from surgery to remove loose pieces and a bone spur from his right elbow. He's hoping for better results in his second season in the Bronx.
Mar 4 - 3:42 PM

Making his exhibition debut, Alex Rodriguez singled and walked in his three plate appearances Wednesday versus the Phillies.

Rodriguez swung through Kevin Slowey's first two fastballs in the first before getting a third at 89-mph and sending a little liner into left field. He grounded out on the first pitch of his second at-bat and then walked on a full count before getting pulled for a pinch-runner in the sixth inning. Rodriguez's bat didn't exactly look fast in the game, but he came through day one just fine.
