Wandy Rodriguez (forearm) felt a little sore after his rehab start on Sunday.

He'll be given a little extra time off before his next rehab outing, as he'll throw a bullpen session Friday before making another rehab start next Monday. Rodriguez should return before the All-Star break as long as he doesn't have any other mini-setbacks.

Phil Hughes left Thursday's start versus the White Sox after being hit in the right leg by a comebacker.

Adam Dunn's smash appeared to hit Hughes' shin, and he eventually limped off the field with the Twins' trainer. He'll likely go for an X-ray, at which point an update on his status will be available.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said that a decision on whether Mark Teixeira (lat) will be placed on the disabled list will likely come Friday.

"It's just seeing how he feels after three or four days," Girardi said. "Then we'll decide if we think it's going to be the near future that he would play or we're going to need the 15-day [disabled list]. If it's going to be 12, 13, 14 days, it probably makes sense to get a player here." Girardi added that it's unlikely Teixeira will play Friday, but "you want to feel that there's progress and that he feels better to start doing some stuff." Teixeira hasn't played since Sunday due to a lower left lat strain.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Pirates' interest in A.J. Burnett is "mild at best."

He adds that their interest "might fall further" if Burnett intends to pick up his 2015 player option, which would be worth $12.75 million if he makes 32 starts this season. Burnett, of course, pitched for the Pirates from 2012-13 and they wanted to re-sign him over the winter but were outbid by the Phillies. Heyman also says that the Orioles' interest in Burnett "doesn't seem keen, either." The righty holds a good-but-not-great 3.86 ERA in 2014 and it appears his market might be drying up.

Manny Machado (back) is hoping to return to action sometime over the weekend.

Machado is missing a third straight contest Thursday with what he calls annoying pain" in his lower back, but he's expected to take batting practice and field grounders prior to the game. Ryan Flaherty is getting a third straight start at third base Thursday.
Jul 24 - 7:32 PM

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Cubs are "trying to trade" Edwin Jackson.

It won't be easy, as Jackson has posted a 5.22 ERA over 51 starts for the Cubs and is due about $26 million through the 2016 season. However, the right-hander is durable and has flashed upside in the past, so it's possible the Cubs might find a taker as long as they're willing to eat most of the contract. The Yankees have been mentioned as possible suitors of Jackson, though that might change now that they've acquired Chris Capuano.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Diamondbacks are "looking to trade" Aaron Hill.

It appears that they're much more likely to move Hill than Martin Prado, as Heyman says the club is "barely listening" to inquiries on Prado. Hill is batting .251 with eight homers and 49 RBI in a down season and is still owed $28 million through 2016, so Arizona probably wouldn't receive a whole lot in return.

Astros general manager Jeff Luhnow indicated Thursday that the team is unlikely to trade Chad Qualls.

Teams have expressed interest in the reliever, but Qualls will make a reasonable $6 million through the end of next season and has a $3 million option for 2016, so Luhnow doesn't feel compelled to move him. The 35-year-old boasts a terrific 1.78 ERA and 31/4 K/BB ratio over 35 1/3 innings in 2014. "I hesitate to use the word 'untouchable,' but he likes it here, he's comfortable here and he's pitching well," Luhnow said. "To have a guy who's capable of pitching late in the game, in close games, we're going to have opportunity going forward. This is a team that's improving, and as the team improves, you have more save opportunities, more opportunities to pitch at the end of close games. We need more Chad Qualls. We don't need less."

Royals manager Ned Yost said Thursday that Billy Butler will lose playing time in the designated hitter spot in the coming days.

It's probably overdue, as Butler has struggled mightily with a .266/.321/.346 batting line and three homers this season and has hit just .234/.286/.313 this month. The 28-year-old is probably droppable in most mixed leagues at this point. Danny Valencia and Raul Ibanez will pick up the extra at-bats in the DH spot.

The Indians are hopeful that Asdrubal Cabrera (back) will be ready to return to the lineup over the weekend.

Manager Terry Francona is aiming for Saturday, though he admitted that might be a tad optimistic. Cabrera did increase his activity Thursday but will miss a third straight game due to back spasms. Jose Ramirez is getting another start at shortstop.
Jul 24 - 6:25 PM

Jesse Hahn will be recalled to start on Friday in Atlanta.

Hahn was sent down over the All-Star break in order to keep pitching. The rookie has been excellent over 40 2/3 innings for San Diego, posting a 2.21 ERA and 1.06 WHIP with 47 strikeouts. He should be scooped back up in leagues where he was dropped.
Jul 24 - 6:20 PM

Yankees acquired LHP Chris Capuano from the Rockies in exchange for cash considerations.

It's great news for Capuano, who was recently passed over for a promotion. He should get a chance to start in New York given all the injuries to the Yankees' rotation. The left-hander holds a 4.55 ERA in 28 relief appearances in the majors this season but put up a 2.79 mark in four minor league starts. He's worth a shot in AL-only leagues, but Capuano is a flyball pitcher that will now be in a park that surrenders a lot of homers.
