Indians designated INF John McDonald for assignment.

The move clears a spot for Asdrubal Cabrera's return from the disabled list. McDonald, who was acquired from the Pirates earlier this month, went 0-for-7 in eight games with the club.

Ryan Zimmerman will undergo an MRI after leaving Tuesday's game against the Rockies with a strained right hamstring.

It's looking like Zimmerman is headed to the disabled list, but the Nationals won't know for sure until the test results come back. It would be his second trip to the DL this season, as he missed nearly two months with a fractured thumb. The Nats would go back to Anthony Rendon at third base and Danny Espinosa at second if Zimmerman is on the shelf for a while.

Mike Moustakas went 3-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI in the Royals' 7-1 win over the White Sox on Tuesday.

When it rains, it pours for Moustakas -- he'd hit just two home runs since June 21 and he hadn't driven in a run in his past eight games prior to Tuesday's outburst. The homers give Moustakas 12 home runs on the season to go with a .198/.262/.391 line. Games like Tuesday's remind of his potential, but the third baseman is just too inconsistent to be relied upon in fantasy realms.

Chase Headley made his Yankees debut in style, delivering a walk-off single in the 14th inning against the Rangers on Tuesday.

Headley took his first at-bat as a Yankee in the eighth inning and struck out. He stayed in the game, grounding out twice in his next two at-bats before driving in Brian Roberts with his 14th-inning single. The Yankees acquired Headley earlier in the day. Overall, he is slashing .230/.296/.353 with seven home runs and 45 RBI on the season.
Jul 23 - 12:04 AM

Carlos Santana went 4-for-5 with a home run and nine total bases as the Indians cruised past the Twins 8-2 on Tuesday.

Santana had just three extra-base hits in his previous nine games, but the 28-year-old added two doubles to go with his 15th home run of the year. If anything, he deserved to have an even better night from a statistical standpoint -- the homer came with nobody on, and his other three hits drove in just one run combined. The four-hit evening raised his season line to .214/.353/.401.
Jul 23 - 12:01 AM

Kyle Gibson has been scratched from Wednesday's scheduled start against the Indians due to a stiff back.

He should be fine for his next outing or maybe even later in the week, but the Twins wanted to play it safe. Anthony Swarzak will make a spot start in Gibson's place.
Jul 22 - 11:56 PM

Jonathan Lucroy's second home run of the game also served to give the Brewers a 4-3, walk-off victory over the Reds on Tuesday.

Lucroy homered off Reds starter Homer Bailey in the sixth inning, and leading off the ninth he took reliever Sam LeCure out to send the fans home happy. The homers were his first since July 4, also against the Reds. The All-Star catcher has now got 11 home runs to go with a .310/.381/.500 line on the year.
Jul 22 - 11:45 PM

Adam Wainwright was lit up for six earned runs in 4 2/3 innings Tuesday in a loss to the Rays.

Wainwright had an abnormal amount of rest after pitching one inning in last week's 2014 MLB All-Star Game and looked off at home versus Tampa Bay, issuing four walks and surrendering six hits in the rough outing. He should be able to bounce back next week in San Diego. The ace right-hander still boasts a 2.02 ERA and 0.95 WHIP on the season.
Jul 22 - 11:40 PM

Anthony Rizzo continued his hot hitting on Tuesday, blasting two home runs in the Cubs' 6-0 win over the Padres.

Rizzo hit solo shots in the third and seventh innings, giving him 25 on the year. That's now the most in the National League, and what's more, he's hit five in the team's four games since the All-Star break. Rizzo won the Final Vote in the NL, and he's proving all his backers right with his strong start to the second half.
Jul 22 - 11:01 PM

Gregory Polanco drove in three of the Pirates' 12 runs in a slugfest win over the Dodgers on Tuesday.

Polanco belted a solo home run in the third inning and singled in two runs in the sixth. The 22-year-old rookie has been mired in a slump, but the Pirates certainly hope Tuesday's effort is the slump-buster. Polanco owns a .253/.339/.349 slash line with four home runs, 17 RBI, and six stolen bases.
Jul 22 - 10:59 PM

Donovan Solano reached base in all five plate appearances in Tuesday's win over the Braves, drawing a walk, hitting a double, and tallying three singles.

It's the first four-hit game of Solano's career. The Marlins could only bring him around to score once, however. Solano hasn't had much to write home about at the plate otherwise, as his slash line has improved to a still-paltry .261/.309/.322 with one home run and 12 RBI in 126 plate appearances.
Jul 22 - 10:40 PM

Jose Reyes stole a base, homered, and doubled in a run in five at-bats as the Jays slugged their way to a win against the Red Sox on Tuesday.

For Reyes, the two extra-base hits equaled his total over the previous two weeks. His solo shot in the sixth inning off of Jake Peavy gave the Jays a 2-0 lead. He added some insurance in the eighth with an RBI double to make it 7-1. The shortstop is now sporting a .276/.326/.420 slash line with eight home runs, 32 RBI, and 19 stolen bases.
