Derek Holland tossed a two-hit shutout in Thursday's 2-0 victory over the Yankees.

Holland needed just 92 pitches for his sixth career shutout. He's the first visiting pitcher since Greg Maddux (1997) to throw a nine-inning shutout at Yankee Stadium with fewer than 100 pitches. The southpaw was dominant, holding the Yankees hitless after the third inning. He struck out seven and walked two and now holds a nifty 3.14 ERA and 97/27 K/BB ratio through 106 innings this season. He'll square off against the Mariners at home next time out.

Christian Yelich (knee, ankle) is out of the Marlins' starting lineup Monday versus the Braves.

Yelich singled as a pinch-hitter on Sunday against the Nationals, but he's still not ready to play a full game. The 23-year-old fouled a ball off his ankle last Wednesday and also has a bruised right knee. Derek Dietrich is in left field for Miami on Monday night.

Hanley Ramirez (shoulder) is out of the Red Sox lineup again on Monday night against the Yankees.

Ramirez missed Boston's entire weekend series against the Mets with fatigue in his left shoulder. He's been bothered by several injuries throughout 2015 but has yet to spend a day on the disabled list. It's been a source of frustration for fantasy owners, and it's not clear how long this current absence is going to last.

David Robertson was claimed off revocable waivers by the Yankees, but the White Sox have pulled him back.

It doesn't sound like the possibility of a trade was ever taken seriously on either side. Chicago is looking to compete in 2016 and Robertson has been very good in his first season as the team's closer. The 30-year-old right-hander signed a four-year, $46 million free agent contract with the White Sox over the winter after saving 39 games for the Yankees in 2014.

Cardinals activated RHP Trevor Rosenthal from the paternity leave list.

Rosenthal missed the Cardinals' weekend series in San Francisco to welcome a new baby girl. The 25-year-old All-Star closer will be back in the St. Louis bullpen for Monday night's series opener against the Nationals at Busch Stadium. He has a 1.52 ERA and 41 saves so far this season for the first-place Cards.

David Freese (finger) will join the Angels on Monday in Oakland and could be activated from the disabled list.

Freese has been playing in rehab games with Triple-A Salt Lake for the past week with no lingering discomfort in his right index finger. He suffered a non-displaced fracture of that finger back in late July. Angels third basemen have hit a combined .183 with two homers in 36 games with Freese on the shelf, so he should return to a starting gig.

Jake Arrieta made history on Sunday night in Los Angeles, pitching the first no-hitter of his big league career, striking out a season-high 12 over nine masterful innings against the Dodgers.

Arrieta needed 116 pitches to complete his masterpiece, striking out the side in the ninth inning to put an exclamation point on it. The Dodgers had just two base runners all night, one when Kike Hernandez reached on an error in the third, and the other when Jimmy Rollins walked in the sixth. It was the first no-hitter by a Cubs hurler since Carlos Zambrano accomplished the feat in 2008. Arrieta's gem was the sixth no-hitter in Major League Baseball this season, most recently done by Mike Fiers just nine days ago against these very same Dodgers. Arrieta has been unbelievable since mid-June, compiling a 1.07 ERA, 0.76 WHIP and 101/23 K/BB ratio over 101 innings in his last 14 starts. He'll look to continue his dominance of the National League on Saturday when he takes on the Diamondbacks at home.

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that the Blue Jays will name Mark Shapiro as their team president.

The official announcement could come as early as Monday. He'll replace long-time team president Paul Beeston who is retiring at the end of the season. Shapiro, who is currently functioning in the same role for the Indians, plans to keep Alex Anthopoulos as the team's general manager according to sources.

Giancarlo Stanton (hand) has been cleared to begin a minor league rehab assignment and is targeting a return to the Marlins lineup on Friday.

Stanton has been on the shelf since late June after fracturing the hamate bone in his left hand. That type of injury has been known to sap a player's power in the past, so those hoping that he'll immediately return to the player that he was pre-injury may need to curb their optimism.

Derek Holland pitched one of the best games of his career in Sunday's 6-0 win over the Orioles, striking out 11 and allowing just three hits in a complete game shutout.

Simply spectacular work by Holland. Adam Jones hit a double against the 28-year-old southpaw, but otherwise, he allowed almost nothing. Through three starts since returning from the disabled list, he's surrendered six runs in 21 1/3 innings. He'll try to match this effort when he carries his 2.82 ERA and 0.94 WHIP into a road date with the Angels next Saturday.

Stephen Drew went 4-for-4 with a homer and four RBI in the Yankees' 20-6 rout of the Braves on Sunday.

Drew singled and scored in the Yankees' three-run second inning, hit a two-run shot in the Yankees' four-run third inning, drew a bases-loaded walk in the fifth inning, and then singled twice and scored another run in the Yankees' nine-run seventh. Drew bumped his batting average from .192 to .201 and his OPS from .632 to .659 in the big afternoon victory for the current American League Wild Card leaders.
Aug 30 - 5:36 PM

Stephen Strasburg was forced to leave Sunday's start against the Rockies after four innings due to discomfort in his upper back.

It's similar to one of the many injury issues that the right-hander has dealt with this season. It's unclear at the moment how much time he may miss. He has been limited to a total of 91 innings in 18 starts this year.
