Henderson Alvarez's (shoulder) next start will come with the Marlins.

Alvarez tossed 7 2/3 scoreless innings for Double-A Jacksonville on Friday and finishes his rehab schedule with a 1.11 ERA over four outings. "He’s going to be on his way," manager Mike Redmond said. "He’ll throw a bullpen here [Sunday], and we’ll figure out what we’re going to do as far as where we’re going to fit him in." Alvarez is on the same schedule as Ricky Nolasco, so he could take his spot in the rotation on Wednesday if Nolasco is traded before then. If Nolasco is still around, Tom Koehler would figure to get the boot.

Mike Leake was brilliant in Saturday's 7-2 win over the Red Sox, firing off eight scoreless innings while allowing just three hits.

Awesome showing for Leake, who struck out five and walked two in the primetime spotlight. He did so in ruthlessly economic fashion, too, requiring just 98 pitches (61 strikes) to make it through his eight innings of work. It no doubt helped that he was backed by the offense, which plated seven runs against Boston pitching in the win. The strong outing was exactly the kind of rebound performance that Leake needed after he was knocked for five runs by these same Red Sox in his previous outing. He's held the opposition to two or fewer runs in six of his last seven outings, with that aforementioned five-run stinker the lone outlier in the lot. Leake will carry a 4.11 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 60/23 K/BB ratio (100 2/3 innings) into a road date with the Orioles in his next scheduled outing.

Trevor Bauer allowed one run on five hits while striking out 11 in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Tigers.

Bauer has been on an out-and-out strikeout tear of late, with Saturday's 11 whiffs of Tigers batters marking the fifth time in six starts in which he has racked up double-digit strikeouts. The only run to score over his 6 1/3 innings of work came when he uncorked a wild pitch to allow JaCoby Jones to scamper home from third in the second inning. He wrapped up his superlative evening having thrown 112 pitches (72 for strikes). Bauer will bring a 2.44 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 140/35 K/BB ratio (107 innings) into a road showdown with the A's in his next scheduled outing. He's in the midst of putting together a career-best season.

Yadier Molina homered twice and drove in three runs in four at-bats to spearhead a 3-2 win over the Brewers on Saturday.

He popped a solo homer off starter Chase Anderson in the second inning, then gave the Cardinals the lead to stay by taking Jeremy Jeffress deep for a two-run shot in the sixth. The veteran catcher missed a month of action with a traumatic hematoma but has still been able to rank among the league's better fantasy catchers by slashing .276/.323/.506 with 11 homers and 31 RBI in 47 games.

Mark Trumbo went 1-for-3 with a grand slam and a walk in Saturday's 7-5 win over the Braves.

Stepping to the plate with the bases juiced and nobody out in the first inning, Trumbo uncoiled to strike for a long home run off Julio Teheran to give the Orioles a nice early cushion on the scoreboard. The veteran slugger has been on a power tear of late, launching four home runs in his last seven games after managing just three long balls through his first 35 games of the campaign. On the whole, Trumbo is hitting .263/.320/.462 with seven home runs and 20 RBI across 156 at-bats. Just 10 games ago, that batting line was sitting at a limp .254/.299/.389. Trumbo makes for an intriguing buy-low candidate for fantasy purposes, but that window might be closing by degrees given his recent hot play.

Clayton Kershaw allowed two runs and five hits over three innings against the Mets in his return from the disabled list Saturday.

Kershaw looked fairly sharp in the first, but his velocity dwindled some afterwards and he gave up lone runs in the second and the third. He ended up throwing 55 pitches, 25 of which came in the third. Basically, he looked like someone who could have used a rehab start before returning. Still, he kept the Dodgers in the game before turning the ball over the Caleb Ferguson. He should be back out there next week.
Jun 23 - 8:38 PM

Joey Votto went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run, a walk and two runs scored in Saturday's 11-2 win over the Cubs.

Votto put the exclamation point on Saturday's blowout of the division foe, rocking a three-run home run off Chris Giminez with two outs in the eighth inning to put the Reds up by an 11-2 margin. The home run was just his eighth of the season. The All Star first baseman has been dragging a bit with the power bat in general this year, as he's currently slashing. 299/.427/.459 in 75 games. He has posted a slugging percentage north of .540 each of the last three seasons, so there's plenty of room for improvement, here.

The Twins said after Saturday's game that Fernando Romero is being sent down in favor of a reliever.

Romero hadn't been great this month, but he hadn't been all that bad, either, in amassing a 4.71 ERA in his four starts. The Twins won three of those four games, too. Overall, he was 3-3 with a 4.38 ERA and a 44/19 K/BB ratio over 51 1/3 innings in his 10 starts, and the good certainly outweighed the bad. It's uncertain who will replace him in the rotation, but Adalberto Mejia would seem to be a good guess. He's allowed just four runs in his last four starts in Triple-A.

Brewers optioned OF Domingo Santana to Triple-A Colorado Springs.

The 25-year-old had a breakout season in 2017, slashing .278/.371/.505 with 30 homers, 85 RBI and 15 stolen bases, however 2018 has been a completely different story. Perhaps due to the fact that he has seen sporadic playing time, Santana is hitting just .249/.313/.354 with three homers, 17 RBI and a 69/18 K/BB ratio in 211 plate appearances. He'll play everyday at Triple-A in an effort to get back on track.
Jun 23 - 12:52 PM

Nick Senzel will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a torn tendon in his right index finger.

Ouch, this is a tough one to take. The Reds' top prospect battled through a vertigo issue early in the season and had just started to rake at Triple-A Louisville when he suffered the injury on Friday night. He finishes his age-22 season slashing .310/.378/.509 with six homers, 25 RBI and eight stolen bases in 44 games. He could be recovered in time to participate in the Arizona Fall League or in winter ball.
Jun 23 - 10:50 AM

Nolan Arenado went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run and a walk in Friday's 11-3 rout of the Marlins.

Arenado is on a power tear against the dregs of the National League East, belting a homer in each of his past four outings while piling up 11 RBI during the impressive stretch. He is averaging two RBI across his past eight contests, too. He'll look for a homer in a fifth straight outing against RHP Trevor Richards on Saturday afternoon. He is hitting .341 (28-for-82) with four doubles, five homers and 18 RBI in day games this season.
Jun 23 - 2:57 AM

Manny Machado slugged a go-ahead two-run homer in the 15th inning as the Orioles defeated the Braves 10-7 on Friday.

It was a wild night in Atlanta, but Machado’s blast off Peter Moylan finally put the Orioles ahead for good. Machado went 2-for-5 on the night with two walks, two runs scored, and a stolen base. He’s been pretty quiet this month, but he still owns a quality .305/.374/.561 batting line with 19 homers and 55 RBI over 73 games. The trade chatter should continue to build in the coming days.
