Scahill has posted a 4.26 ERA and 1.21 WHIP over 13 appearances for the Rockies this season. He should be back later this summer.

According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, Michael Pineda has been suspended 10 games for using pine tar in his start Wednesday against the Red Sox.

Pineda had a big streak of pine tar on his neck on a blistery night at Fenway Park and was ejected by home plate umpire Gerry Davis with two outs in the second inning. His turn only comes up one time in the next 17 games due to conveniently-scheduled off days, so it's not a major hit to the Yankees. Pineda admitted after his start Wednesday that he was using pine tar and apologized for it. He boasts a 1.83 ERA in 19 2/3 frames this year.

Corey Kluber righted the ship in a big way on Thursday, going the distance and striking out 11 in the Indians' 5-1 win over the Royals.

Even with all of the strikeouts, Kluber needed just 101 pitches to finish off the Royals. 75 of them were strikes. The one run he allowed was unearned, courtesy of a Nick Swisher error. Kluber lowered his ERA from 5.40 to 3.90 with the performance. We wouldn't necessarily expect more starts like this one, but he's never stopped looking like a fair bet in mixed leagues.

Mariners optioned RHP Erasmo Ramirez to High-A High Desert.

Brandon Maurer is going to start in place of Ramirez on Sunday and then Hisashi Iwakuma (finger) will likely take over the rotation spot on the next turn through. Ramirez was 1-3 with a disappointing 6.75 ERA, 1.58 WHIP, and 20/11 K/BB ratio in 24 innings with the big-league club. He'll work on his craft against minor league competition. It's possible he could return to the majors for the M's upcoming doubleheader with Oakland.

Brewers activated RHP Brandon Kintzler from the 15-day disabled list.

Kintzler wound up missing the minimum 15 days with a mild strain of his right rotator cuff. He posted an impressive 2.69 ERA and 1.065 WHIP in 77 innings of relief last season for Milwaukee, and will be an important part of the Brewers' bullpen going forward in 2014.
Apr 24 - 1:35 PM

Cubs prospect C.J. Edwards is in Chicago on Thursday for an examination of his right shoulder.

Edwards felt some shoulder fatigue during a recent bullpen session and the Cubs want to be sure it's nothing serious. The 22-year-old right-hander has posted a 2.61 ERA, 1.065 WHIP, and 20/8 K/BB ratio in 20 2/3 innings this season for the Double-A Tennessee Smokies. He is the Cubs' top pitching prospect.
Apr 24 - 12:22 PM

Cubs manager Rick Renteria said Thursday that he does not have a designated closer at this point.

Pedro Strop had an opportunity to grab the job, but he was lit up for four runs in the top of the ninth inning Wednesday as the Cubs fell in brutal fashion to the Diamondbacks. "It's organic," Renteria said. Justin Grimm, James Russell, Hector Rondon, Jose Veras, and Strop could all see save opportunities going forward.
Apr 24 - 11:47 AM

A.J. Pollock (neck) is out of the Diamondbacks' starting lineup again on Thursday versus the Cubs.

Pollock was able to serve as a pinch-runner on Wednesday, but he still doesn't feel well enough to start. He wound up riding the pine for the Diamondbacks' entire four-game series at Chicago's Wrigley Field.

Diamondbacks placed OF Mark Trumbo on the 15-day disabled list with a stress fracture in his left foot.

Trumbo was diagnosed with the injury on Wednesday in Chicago and flew back to Phoenix, Arizona for a range of tests to determine the severity. He missed almost six months with a stress fracture in his right foot in 2011, but he told reporters that this one doesn't feel as bad. Cody Ross stands to get a significant boost in playing time.
Apr 24 - 11:27 AM

Adam Eaton (hamstring) could return Friday.

Eaton is again out of the White Sox lineup on Thursday with a mild strain of his left hamstring, but he tried to talk manager Robin Ventura into starting him -- which is obviously a good sign. The dynamic 25-year-old outfielder is batting .282/.373/.394 with one home run and one stolen base in 18 games this season.
Apr 24 - 11:14 AM

Justin Ruggiano was diagnosed Thursday morning with a Grade 2 strain of his left hamstring.

That carries a best-case recovery timetable of 3-4 weeks. Ruggiano suffered the severe hamstring strain Wednesday while attempting to track down a fly ball along the treacherous right-field line at Wrigley Field. He was placed on the disabled list on Thursday.
Apr 24 - 11:11 AM

White Sox activated 2B Gordon Beckham from the 15-day disabled list.

Beckham is finally ready for his regular-season debut after missing nearly four weeks with an oblique strain. The 27-year-old second baseman batted just .267/.322/.372 with five home runs and 24 RBI in 103 games last summer, and might not get regular playing time out of the gate with Conor Gillaspie and Marcus Semien playing well. Beckham did not hit well on his minor league rehab assignment.
