Robinson Cano went 2-for-3 with a two-run double in the Yankees' 3-2 win over the Twins on Wednesday.

The Yanks only had four hits on the night but Cano delivered two of them, the biggest coming with two on in the sixth inning. His two-run double tied the game, and he came in as the winning run on a Lyle Overbay sacrifice fly later in the inning. He's carrying a .917 OPS through 84 games.

Khris Davis slugged his 34th home run of the year Sunday in the Athletics' 7-4 victory at St. Louis.

It was a two-run shot in the top of the first inning that set the tone for the afternoon. Davis later drew a walk and scored his second run of the game on a three-run shot from Stephen Vogt. The 28-year-old outfielder is setting himself up for a nice payday in his first turn through salary arbitration this winter.

Tony Watson notched his 10th save Sunday in the Pirates' 3-1 defeat of the Brewers.

That concluded a big four-game sweep for the Bucs, who are very much alive in the National League Wild Card race despite selling off veteran closer Mark Melancon (and starter Francisco Liriano) at the August 1 trade deadline. Watson has converted 10 straight saves this month since Melancon's departure. The lefty has a 2.57 ERA for the year.

Kevin Gausman was sharp in Sunday's 5-0 win over the Yankees, striking out nine over seven shutout innings.

Gausman wasn't unhittable -- he scattered seven of them -- but this was perhaps his best overall start of the season. The flame-throwing right-hander did not walk a batter on the afternoon and finished his seven brilliant innings having thrown 108 pitches (75 strikes). Gausman has not allowed a run in either of his past two starts. For the season as a whole, the 25-year-old holds a 3.73 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 140/38 K/BB ratio over 140 innings. The Yankees will have the displeasure of facing him again in Camden Yards next time he takes the mound.

Carlos Rodon tossed six innings of one-run ball Sunday as the White Sox beat the Mariners 4-1.

Rodon struck out six, issued just one walk, and limited the Mariners to five hits. The one he gave up came on a Robinson Cano solo homer in the top of the sixth inning. Rodon finishes the month of August with a 1.47 ERA in 30 2/3 innings. The young southpaw is finding his groove with a favorable matchup against the Twins coming up next.

Luis Perdomo excelled in Sunday's 3-1 win over the Marlins, tossing a complete game while yielding just one run.

Perdomo walked three against three strikeouts, but he managed to keep the Marlins in check despite the lack of whiffs. The lone run to score on his watch came when Xavier Scruggs picked up a shallow RBI double in the second inning. Otherwise, nothing doing for the fish. This makes two beautiful outings in a row for Perdomo, who fired seven innings of one-run ball against the Diamondbacks last time out. He will try to make it three consecutive gems when he takes his lowering-by-degrees 5.84 ERA and 1.70 WHIP into a road showdown with the Dodgers next time he toes the rubber.

Josh Doladson put on a fireworks show in Sunday's 9-6 win over the Twins, socking a trio of home runs and finishing with four RBI.

Donaldson cracked a solo home run off Kyle Gibson in the third inning. He would homer again -- this time a two-run shot -- in the seventh inning before polishing off his impressive power showing with a final solo tater in the eighth. The reigning AL MVP has now cracked 33 home runs and driven in 91. He can pair those counting stats with a strong .294/.407/.578 triple-slash over 476 at-bats.

Adam Eaton exited Sunday's game versus the Mariners with a bruised right forearm.

Eaton was hit in the forearm by a Taijuan Walker pitch in the fourth inning. The good news is X-rays came back negative and he's considered day-to-day.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that Yasiel Puig has been placed on revocable waivers.

Most every player goes through revocable waivers in August, but there would seem to be a small chance Puig gets moved given the whispers about the Dodgers listening to trade offers for him over the last couple months. However, as Rosenthal notes, a trade is much likelier over the offseason when the Dodgers are able to negotiate with all teams rather than just the one that claims him.

Asdrubal Cabrera exited Sunday's game versus the Phillies with a sore left knee.

It looked like his arm was hurt in a collision at first base with Tommy Joseph, but apparently Cabrera aggravated the knee injury that recently cost him three weeks of action. The Mets could have more on his status after the game, but this could certainly be a disabled list situation.

Sonny Gray (forearm) is slated to resume a throwing program this week.

Gray has been shut down for the last three weeks with a muscle strain and inflammation in his right forearm, but he's apparently experienced improvement of late. A return before the end of the season is possible but not a given, especially with the minor league season likely ending before Gray would be ready for a rehab assignment. He's posted a 5.74 ERA over 21 starts this season.

Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports hears that Giancarlo Stanton (groin) could return for the final week of the regular season if things go "absolutely perfect."

The report backs up what Marlins president of baseball operations Michael Hill said a week ago about Stanton holding out hope for a late-season return. It's certainly good news for the club, although it's just speculation at this point with Stanton still shut down from baseball activities. The slugger suffered a Grade 3 groin strain two weeks ago.
