Tyler Chatwood allowed six runs -- five earned -- on 11 hits in five innings in a loss to the Dodgers on Wednesday.

Chatwood hadn't allowed more than two runs in a game since April 24 but didn't have it on this night. Among his 11 hits allowed were the first two home runs he's given up this season. Even with the poor start, his ERA remains a solid 2.75 through 10 starts. His next start will come Monday against the Padres in San Diego.

Albert Pujols is out of the Angels' lineup Wednesday due to a flareup of plantar fasciitis.

Pujols has dealt with plantar fasciitis in his left foot off and on since his peak years with the Cardinals, but this bout is actually in his right foot. Not good. Angels manager Mike Scioscia said there is no talk of shutting Pujols down, but the veteran slugger is probably going to need regular days off down the stretch. Kole Calhoun is at DH and batting second on Wednesday night against Reds left-hander Brandon Finnegan.

Carlos Gomez mashed a grand slam in the Rangers' 14-1 rout of the Mariners on Wednesday.

It was part of a five-run fourth inning for the home team. Gomez also drew a walk and scored the game's first run in the bottom of the third, finishing 1-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBI. The former Astros center fielder has two homers and eight RBI in seven games since joining the Rangers, though consistency remains an issue. Gomez is just 4-for-25 (.160) overall in a Texas uniform.

Hanley Ramirez slugged a grand slam Wednesday in Boston's 8-6 defeat of the Rays.

The four-run shot in the bottom of the fifth inning put the Red Sox ahead 5-4 and erased a poor outing from starter Steven Wright. Hanley also drew a walk and scored a run in the bottom of the eighth, finishing 1-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored. He's slashing .281/.354/.471 with 19 home runs and 84 RBI in 120 games this season.

Yahoo Sports' Jeff Passan reports that Jeremy Jeffress will not be suspended following his arrest on suspicion of DWI over the weekend.

Per Passan, Jeffress has entered into an inpatient rehabilitation clinic and is expected to remain there for around a month. MLB reportedly offered the reliever a choice between a suspension and the rehab stay. With him out of the picture for (essentially) the remainder of the regular season, Jake Diekman should handle the bulk of the setup duties for the Rangers moving forward. Passan hears that Jeffress has not been ruled out for a potential postseason return.

Marwin Gonzalez left Wednesday's game against the A's due to right hamstring discomfort.

Gonzalez was dealing with a bit of a knee injury after being plunked by a pitch in mid-August, but Wednesday's hamstring issue would seem to be unrelated to the previous ailment. Hamstrings are notoriously tricky and a trip to the disabled list is in play here depending on the severity of the injury. The Astros will reevaluate him after the game.

JaCoby Jones went 2-for-4 and scored the winning run in Wednesday's 3-2 defeat of the White Sox.

Jones doubled and scored in the bottom of the fifth inning against White Sox ace Chris Sale and then did the same in the bottom of the ninth versus White Sox closer David Robertson. The 24-year-old also went 2-for-4 (with a double and two RBI) in his major league debut on Tuesday night. He could continue producing sneaky fantasy value with Nick Castellanos (hand) and Cameron Maybin (thumb) both sidelined.

Mets manager Terry Collins said that the herniated disc in Neil Walker's back could require surgery.

Walker would like to keep playing through the herniated disc, but he is experiencing numbness in his foot and leg due to the injury. He is seeking a second opinion, which should shed more light on whether or not he will need to undergo a season-ending surgical procedure. Wilmer Flores figures to continue to fill in for him at second base until all this is sorted out.

Mike Trout is getting the day off Wednesday.

And so is Albert Pujols, which gives the Angels' lineup a spring training look. Rafael Ortega is in center field and Kole Calhoun is at DH versus the Reds.

RotoGrinders.com Daily Slant: Without the two most dangerous bats in the LAA lineup, things are shifting drastically for several of the Angels regulars. Andrelton Simmons will move to the leadoff spot, but the bats we want to target here are the 3-4-5 hitters. C.J. Cron (.185 ISO vs. LHP), Jefry Marte (.245 ISO vs. LHP) and Jett Bandy (.316 ISO vs. LHP) are all available at low price tags across the industry, and they possess considerable upside against the erratic Brandon Finnegan (2.08 HR/9 vs. RHBs).

Lorenzo Cain (wrist) is not in the Royals' starting lineup Wednesday versus the Yankees.

Cain told reporters late Tuesday night that he's been battling a left wrist injury for at least the past two weeks and it causes him discomfort when he tries to swing. Consider him day-to-day for now. Jarrod Dyson is starting in center field on Wednesday night.
Aug 31 - 3:43 PM

Marlins placed RHP David Phelps on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 27, with a left oblique strain.

Phelps was scheduled to start Wednesday night against the Mets, but the Marlins will have to go with Jake Esch instead. Oblique injuries typically require 4-6 weeks of rest and rehab for pitchers, so this could very well end Phelps' season. He was sporting a 2.52 ERA, 1.12 WHIP, and 101/32 K/BB ratio through 78 2/3 innings (five starts, 50 relief appearances) this year with Miami.
Aug 31 - 3:39 PM

Adam Jones (hamstring) remains sidelined Wednesday.

Jones is still working through a left hamstring injury. Nolan Reimold is starting in center field and batting eighth versus Blue Jays right-hander Aaron Sanchez.
