Royals signed 1B Ben Broussard to a minor league contract; assigned him to Triple-A Omaha.

Broussard has hit well in the Mexican League and independent Atlantic League this season, but he seems doubtful to get a shot in Kansas City. The 36-year-old has not appeared in a major league game since 2008.

According to Buster Olney of ESPN, "it appears Jose De Leon is on his way to the big leagues."

The Rays have yet to make an official announcement. Erasmo Ramirez was expected to make his scheduled start on Monday despite pitching in relief on Sunday, so perhaps something has changed. De Leon, acquired from the Dodgers in the Logan Forsythe deal, has a 2.16 ERA and 12/2 K/BB ratio in 8 1/3 innings through his first two starts in Triple-A this year. He got a late start on the season due to a flexor tendon issue.

Cardinals optioned OF Randal Grichuk to High-A Palm Beach.

The move clears a spot for Jose Martinez's return from the disabled list. Grichuk has struggled with a .222/.276/.377 batting line across 46 games this season and the Cardinals want him to work on his strike zone discipline in the minors. Tommy Pham will get a chance at regular playing time, and deservedly so.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Monday that Alex Wood (SC joint inflammation) is only expected to miss one start.

It's an encouraging development. Wood was placed on the disabled list Monday with left SC joint inflammation, but it's not considered a long-term issue. Fantasy owners surely hope so, as the southpaw owns a brilliant 1.69 ERA through eight starts and two relief appearances this season.
May 29 - 12:26 PM

Adam Jones (ankle, hip) has been scratched from Monday's lineup against the Yankees.

Jones was in the original lineup, but he apparently didn't feel 100 percent during his morning workout. Consider him day-to-day. Joey Rickard will cover center field duties again.
May 29 - 12:02 PM

Miguel Sano has returned to the Twins' lineup on Monday against the Astros.

Sano was held out of the lineup for back-to-back games over the weekend in order to clear his head and work on his swing. The young slugger has one hit in his last 16 at-bats with 12 strikeouts. He should get back to mashing soon enough.

Red Sox activated LHP David Price from the 10-day disabled list.

Price will make his long-awaited season debut Monday against the White Sox. The southpaw allowed six runs in 5 2/3 innings over two minor league rehab starts, but the most important thing is that he didn't have any issues with his elbow. The Red Sox have been playing much better recently and getting a healthy Price back should provide a big lift to this rotation.
May 29 - 11:06 AM

Jameson Taillon (cancer) struck out six batters over three scoreless innings Sunday in his first rehab start with Double-A Altoona.

Taillon underwent surgery earlier this month to treat testicular cancer, but he was able to quickly return to game action. He was very sharp in his first rehab start, allowing just one hit and one walk while throwing 29 out of 47 pitches for strikes. Taillon should be ready to rejoin the Pirates' soon, but manager Clint Hurdle doesn't want to rush him. "We don't have expectations, and we want to take it slow with him so he doesn't feel any unneeded urgency," said Hurdle. "He needs to get right when he's right ... this is uncharted territory."

Steven Matz (elbow) spun five perfect innings Sunday in his latest rehab start with Triple-A Las Vegas.

Matz fanned eight and walked none while throwing 50 out of 73 pitches for strikes. It was a very encouraging performance as he works his way back from a flexor strain which has kept him sidelined all season. The southpaw could be cleared to join the Mets' rotation as soon as this weekend against the Pirates at home.

Lucas Duda launched his seventh home run of the season on Sunday as the Mets trounced the Pirates 7-2 in Pittsburgh.

It was his lone hit in five at-bats on the night, but he certainly was able to make it count with a solo shot in the seventh inning that increased the Mets' advantage to 7-1. He's quietly having a nice season in the middle of the Mets' lineup, slashing .264/.396/.592 with seven homers and 16 RBI in 28 games.
May 28 - 11:27 PM

Twins optioned 1B/DH Kennys Vargas to Triple-A Rochester.

After going hitless in eight plate appearances on Sunday (including four strikeouts), Vargas gets the boot. He was hitting .258/.280/.483 with five homers and 19 RBI in 24 games with the Twins.
May 28 - 10:47 PM

Joe Mauer went 4-for-5 with a solo home run, an RBI double and three walks in Sunday's 15-inning, 8-6 loss to the Rays.

Beautiful game for Mauer, though the Twins were unable to put it into the win column. Mauer's fine afternoon started with an RBI double off Alex Cobb in the third inning and he later socked a solo opposite-field homer in the seventh. That one tied the game up at 3-3, but the game would see a number of back-and-forths afterward before the Rays finally came out on top via solo homers by Evan Longoria and Logan Morrison in the top of the 15th inning. Overall, Mauer is hitting .283/.363/.408 with three homers and 18 RBI across 152 at-bats.
