Derek Jeter (ankle) told reporters on Thursday that he feels ready for minor league rehab games.

"I'm anxious to be playing in games," said the veteran shortstop. "Everything I've needed to do up until that point, I've done. ... I think I'm close." The Yankees should map out a schedule for him soon. Jeter is on track to join New York's active roster shortly after the All-Star break.

Scooter Gennett had two hits, including a grand slam, and five RBI as the Reds outlasted the Braves 11-8 on Saturday.

Gennett drove in a run with a sac fly in the seventh inning before lifting a no-doubter into the right field seats in the ninth. It seemed like piling on at the time, but the Braves plated four of their own in the bottom of the frame, making Gennett's slam the difference. He's now got 21 homers on the season, easily a career best, and he's also on pace to set career highs in runs scored, RBI, slugging percentage and OPS as well. There have been few more surprising stories in 2017 than that of the Brewers castoff.

Mike Napoli went 2-for-5 with a three-run home run and a two-run double in Saturday's 17-7 win over the White Sox.

Napoli revved up his big night with a two-run double in the third inning. He topped himself one inning later, when he launched a three-run home run to make it a 12-5 game. The Rangers trailed 5-0 heading into the bottom of the first before they exploded with a huge comeback effort. For the campaign as a whole, veteran slugger Napoli is slashing .199/.281/.452 with 26 homers and 59 RBI over the course of 103 games played. He has homered three times in his last four games.

Dellin Betances worked a scoreless ninth inning for his ninth save Saturday against the Red Sox.

Betances struck out two while throwing nine of his 14 pitches for strikes. Sandy Leon reached after Gary Sanchez let strike three roll to the backstop but Sanchez redeemed himself later by gunning down Brock Holt, who came in to pinch-run for Leon, at second base. Betances should handle most of New York's ninth-inning chances going forward, at least until Aroldis Chapman is ready to reclaim the closer role. David Robertson, who saved a game against the Mets earlier this week, worked the eighth inning on Saturday.

Mike Trout went deep twice in five at-bats during a 5-1 win over the Orioles on Saturday.

He did his damage early, blasting solo bombs off starter Kevin Gausman in each of his first two plate appearances. The young superstar's prowess at the plate this season is obscured because he missed six weeks with a thumb injury, but his 1.164 OPS would be the highest in the majors by more than a hundred points if he had enough at-bats to qualify. He is slashing .339/.464/.700 with 26 longballs, 59 RBI and 61 runs scored. He's stolen 13 bases and been caught three times.
Aug 20 - 12:16 AM

Luis Valbuena drilled a pair of home runs in a win over the Orioles on Saturday.

He hit a solo shot in the second inning and a two-run jack in the fourth -- both off starter Kevin Gausman. He also walked in the contest. The veteran corner infielder has struggled to hit for average this year but still has plenty of thump. He has a .197 batting average with 15 home runs and 42 RBI in 244 at-bats.

Trevor Bauer threw 6 1/3 shutout innings as the Indians blanked the Royals 5-0 on Saturday.

Bauer bent, yielding seven hits and walking two, but he never broke, keeping the Royals at bay in critical at-bats. It's the continuation of what's been a really good second half for the 26-year-old, who's 5-1 since the break and who's registered five quality starts in his last six outings. Bauer is now 12-8 with a 4.50 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 149/48 K/BB ratio over 134 innings in total. He's got a tall order ahead of him Thursday when the Red Sox are in town.
Aug 20 - 12:02 AM

Dominic Smith homered and scored two runs as the Mets bested the Marlins 8-1 on Saturday.

Smith went up to get a Javier Guerra offering in the eighth inning, lifting it over the right field fence to pad the Mets' lead. He's now homered twice in his nine MLB games, two of his five hits in 29 at-bats since his promotion earlier this month. Just 22 years old, Smith may learn on a curve but is a name to keep in mind for the future of the first base position.
Aug 19 - 11:40 PM

Jose Berrios notched seven strikeouts while allowing just two base hits in seven shutout innings during a 5-0 throttling of the Diamondbacks on Saturday.

It was total dominance against a strong lineup. He allowed one walk, one single and one double and that was it. The 23-year-old Berrios has been very inconsistent this year but nights like this provide glimpses of his elite potential. He improves to 11-5 with a 3.99 ERA through 18 starts. He will try to maintain his momentum on Thursday against the White Sox.
Aug 19 - 11:32 PM

Collin McHugh fired six scoreless innings in the Astros' 3-0 shutout of the Athletics on Saturday.

McHugh scattered six hits and a walk, using three strikeouts to get through six innings unscathed. The victory was the first of the year in six starts for the 30-year-old, who didn't make his debut until July 22. He's had one clunker but has largely been decent in those six starts, owning a 4.01 ERA and 1.31 WHIP. He'll try to make it two in a row Friday at the Angels.
Aug 19 - 11:07 PM

Miguel Sano left Saturday's game against the Diamondbacks with left shin soreness.

The injury is to his lower shin. Sano didn't look right running to first on a fourth-inning double play ball but stayed in until Mitch Garver pinch-hit for him in the seventh. He went 0-for-2 with a walk before exiting. Consider the All-Star third baseman day-to-day.

Rafael Devers mashed his eighth homer Saturday in the Red Sox’s loss to the Yankees.

He trimmed New York’s lead to 4-3 by swatting a solo shot to deep center in the seventh. Devers also singled and scored on Jackie Bradley’s RBI single in the fifth inning. The rookie has been on fire, hitting a robust .407 throughout his six-game hitting streak. He’s now homered in three straight games against the Yankees, becoming the first Red Sox hitter to do that since Will Middlebrooks in 2013.
