Evan Gattis (oblique) took 20-25 swings off a tee on Thursday with no issues.

Gattis was shut down for two weeks with an oblique strain, but he's beginning to ramp up baseball activities. The 26-year-old slugger could be back before the All-Star break if he can avoid setbacks.

David Wright (neck) is not in the Mets starting lineup on Sunday.

Manager Terry Collins made it sound as though Wright wouldn't be available on Monday as well. Wilmer Flores is starting in his place on Sunday and will continue to fill in while Wright is sidelined. Collins also made it clear that this neck issue is not related to the back injury that Wright has been battling, but could be connected to his sore shoulder.

John Lackey hurled seven innings of one-run ball Sunday in the Cubs' 7-2 win over the Phillies.

Lackey walked four but yielded only four hits and struck out six. The one run against him came on a Tyler Goeddel homer in the top of the seventh. Lackey now stands 5-2 with a 3.16 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, and 67/17 K/BB ratio through his first 68 1/3 innings with Chicago. He's looking like an offseason steal at two years, $32 million.
May 29 - 5:24 PM

Jayson Werth launched a pinch-hit grand slam in Sunday's 10-2 win over the Cardinals.

The final score is somewhat misleading, as this was a tight, 3-2 contest through the seventh-inning stretch. And then, suddenly, it wasn't. An Anthony Rendon solo homer coupled with Werth's pinch-hit grand slam off Dean Kiekhefer in the bottom of the frame would essentially end the game. After injuries limited him to just 88 games last season, the veteran Werth has appeared in 46 of 51 games in 2016. He is slashing a middling .224/.282/.400 with seven homers and 24 RBI across 165 at-bats.
May 29 - 5:22 PM

Stephen Strasburg bumped his record to 9-0 in Sunday's 10-2 win over the Cardinals, allowing one run on six hits over six innings.

Strasburg struck out 11 in his last start, but fell back to earth with just four of them on Sunday. A solo home run by Brandon Moss in the fourth inning accounted for the totality of the scoring on the ace right-hander's line. Strasburg is in the midst of his best major league season to date and will carry a 2.69 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 90/20 K/BB ratio (73 2/3 innings) into a road start against the Reds in his next scheduled start.
May 29 - 5:08 PM

Jake Odorizzi surrendered a two-run home run to Starlin Castro in Sunday's 2-1 loss to the Yankees, the only hit he allowed over seven innings.

Tough loss for Odorizzi, who was almost perfect on the afternoon. Almost. Entering the seventh inning, the 26-year-old right-hander had not allowed a baserunner. He walked Brett Gardner with one out in the frame, though, and Castro promptly followed that up with a two-run home run. Through his first 11 starts (61 2/3 innings), Odorizzi owns a 3.36 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 51/17 K/BB ratio. A home start against the Twins shows next on his schedule.

ESPN's Buster Olney reports that Hyun-Jin Ryu (shoulder) felt sore after his last rehab start and is "backing off his planned assignments."

It's unclear how big of a setback it could be, but obviously it's not a good development. Ryu tossed four scoreless innings in his last rehab outing and had been scheduled to start on Monday. The Dodgers could have more on the left-hander's status later Sunday.
May 29 - 3:54 PM

Carlos Gomez (ribs) is expected to be activated from the disabled list on Tuesday, the first day he's eligible.

Gomez will play his fifth and likely final rehab game on Sunday. He's 5-for-17 with one homer in his first four contests as he works his way back from a bruised left rib cage. "I think he's feeling a lot better, which is the number one priority," Astros manager A.J. Hinch said of Gomez. "Getting production out of him is the second phase of this."
May 29 - 3:35 PM

Glen Perkins (shoulder) has resumed a throwing program.

Perkins had to be shut down for a week after feeling stiffness in his pitching shoulder. He will throw off a mound later this week, assuming all goes well. Perkins has been on the shelf since mid-April and obviously still has numerous hurdles to clear before rejoining the Twins' bullpen.
May 29 - 3:03 PM

Giancarlo Stanton (side) will take batting practice Sunday.

Stanton is out of the lineup again, but he could be back in there as soon as Monday if BP goes well. The outfielder hasn't played since Tuesday because of soreness in his right side.
May 29 - 2:33 PM

Jordan Zimmermann (groin) threw a bullpen session Sunday.

Zimmermann said he felt great during the session. He'll throw another bullpen session on Tuesday and if that goes well should be cleared to rejoin the Tigers' rotation later this week.
May 29 - 2:17 PM

Huston Street (oblique) could be activated from the disabled list on Monday.

Street made it through an appearance in extended spring training on Saturday with no issues. He could skip a rehab assignment and join the Angels on Monday, although the club hasn't ruled out having him pitch in a minor league game. Joe Smith will return to a setup role when Street is ready.
